"Vom Himmel kam der Engel Schar" is a chorale prelude for organ by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is based on the hymn of the same name and is part of his collection of chorale preludes, "Orgelbüchlein" (Little Organ Book). The piece is composed in a lively triple meter and features intricate contrapuntal lines that showcase Bach's mastery of Baroque composition.

He is known for his masterful compositions for keyboard, orchestra, and choir, and is regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time. The harpsichord and organ are keyboard instruments that were commonly used during the Baroque period. The harpsichord produces sound by plucking strings with quills, while the organ produces sound by forcing air through pipes. Both instruments were important for Baroque music, with the harpsichord often used in chamber music and the organ in church music. The harpsichord used in this performance is made by Griewisch and a replica of an 17th-century instrument, while the chamber organ is made by Fleig.
