First Ski Tour: Stratton & Mount Snow in a Blizzard

Type 1 Fun Day

Haven't been to Stratton, VT since the pandemic started, as a matter of fact last time it was just days before the entire world froze. So today we return to Stratton to skin up Kidderbrook black diamond, pat the bear on its nose, and then move to Mount Snow (20 minutes away) and repeat the action. Overall Vert should be just a bit over 3470ft (1070m) and length 3.5 miles (5.6km). Weather forecasters promise big storm. But when are they really right, right?

So the plan for today is to climb up Stratton mountain, then move to Mount Snow and skin up
that one. We'll see how it goes because the day we picked is not the most glorious of days.
It's supposed to be nuking today. All the apps are suggesting almost up to 20 inches of snow,
heavy. They say stay at home, wait it out, don't drive if you don't have to.
It's about 6 30 in the morning now, so I'm going to start climbing
around 7. The sun should come up, but I don't think we're going to see much of anything.
I started the day with a coffee chase and there's nothing in Vermont. You can
go to Dunkin Donuts or Stewart's, so pick your choice. I mean there is no such a thing as a
bad coffee, right? There's a good coffee that works and there's a coffee that works, so
I got one of them. Anyway, I'm gonna start packing and let's head out.
In Stratton, there are two ways how to get to the peak.
I'm taking the very left trail. It's a black diamond run. You see it above me there. It's
not very pretty today. I don't think they groom this trail now. Also, it seems like the upper
part is going to be all in the clouds. If this was anywhere else, you would probably be able
to climb through the clouds and get above it, but this is east coast.
Many times when people comment on our videos, especially the one from this trail,
they're questioning why it is labeled as black diamond. I wanted to make a little clip about
how steep it is, but I can see already that you won't be able to tell on the video.
I'm at the top. It's about 8 30. It took a little bit longer than I expected,
but I beat everybody to the top. The only people coming are the ski patrol
and I think I might be able to make it down before the lift officially opens.
The snowstorm is coming. It's turning more and more into a whiteout and the snow
is starting to fly around, but it's very pretty. I'm gonna take a little break and then
find my way down. The idea was to ski down the same black diamond that I took up,
but I could almost hear my skis complain about it, so I went for one of the blue squares
and got lost in the middle. The way back to the car suddenly became way less exciting.
So now we are at Mount Snow. I think I'm about two thirds up.
The snow here is way better than it was at Stratton. Maybe it's because it's already snowing,
but it feels like even the pace is much better. So the climbing is
way more pleasant, except there's a lot of traffic coming down.
On the other hand, a lot of them are cheering for me, yelling, go get it!
