Maybe you are familiar with Mete and Almond Peanuts.
But do you know this peanut?
This is Kenari Peanut.
Some people know it as Walnut.
The most striking thing about Kenari Peanut is its hard shell
and uneven texture.
It looks like an ant's brain.
Kenari Peanut is widely known as a nut that has many health benefits
because of its natural nutrients.
One of its nutrients is high in antioxidants
which can help prevent cancer and other degenerative diseases.
In addition, Omega-3 fatty acids in Kenari Peanuts
can also help reduce the risk of heart disease
and improve brain health.
Kenari Peanut or Walnut is a type of peanut
that originates from the Juggleria tree
where this tree is a native plant from North America.
Now, this tree is also cultivated in Iran, China,
Australia and of course America.
In this video, Rekayasa Technology will invite you
to visit a modern farm in America,
specifically in California.
The process of growing Kenari trees begins here,
at the seeding site.
The workers put the Kenari tree seeds
in the dugouts that have been provided.
After the workers have finished spreading all the Kenari tree seeds,
then the farmers lower their tractors
to cover the rows of seeds with two scoops
attached to the back of the tractor.
These scoops will cover the seeds about 4 inches below the ground.
Then when March and April come,
the soil will warm up.
At this time, the seeds will start to germinate.
The Kenari peanut seeds will be here for about a year.
After the seeds are 1 year old
and around November,
the workers can replace the dead seeds
and do the germination in the autumn.
Germination or oculation
is basically the cutting or connection of the session,
or the upper part of the stem,
which is a wood stock of the superior variety
to stick to the new seed stock.
This can be done with several different methods.
After the oculation or connection process,
the upper part of the stem will be painted white.
This is to protect it from the sun.
This is the result of a perfect oculation.
Moving to the seed stock that is 2 years old,
the Kenari tree seeds are ready to be removed
and moved to the main land.
The Kenari tree seeds are not only used for the new land,
but also used to replace the dead Kenari tree,
to be replanted.
First, the workers remove all the roots of the tree
and are ready to be removed and moved.
Meanwhile, in the main land of the Kenari tree,
the workers dig the ground in the dead tree area.
This hole is in the irrigation channel.
Then, the workers immediately plant the new tree seeds in the hole
and install a long pole to help the new seeds stand upright in its place.
Next, the workers paint the tree white with latex
to protect the tree from dehydration
so that the roots can survive.
For the needs of nutrition and water,
the farmers filter it through an irrigation channel.
These new Kenari trees must be monitored and cared for
until they are 5 years old,
where these trees will start to produce
about 3,000 kg per hectare of seeds.
At the end of the cold season,
the workers are diligent in digging
to ensure that there is no upper part of the tree
that will block the light to the middle of the tree.
The workers also have to predict
the part of the tree that may have too many new growths
that can be too heavy
and produce too many Kenari trees at the beginning of the harvest season.
So the workers focus on thinning these trees
to ensure that there are no trees that experience a break in the trunk
because it is too heavy.
This dig is an important part
because the Kenari fruit that gets enough sunlight
will produce good quality Kenari.
So making sure that every part of the trunk
gets enough sunlight
will help maintain the quality of Kenari nuts.
Then in the harvest season, the fruit processing process will take place
immediately after these flowers start to bloom.
Kenari flowers are a group of single-stranded flowers.
It means that the fibers and buds are attached to different flowers.
When the flower buds start to open,
it will allow the fibers to enter and fruit the ovarium.
After the fruiting process,
the Kenari fruit will start to form.
As long as the Kenari fruit is green,
it means that the fruit is still growing
and starts to wither when it turns dark green.
Meanwhile, when the Kenari fruit starts to wither
and the weight of the fruit becomes heavier for the tree,
the farmer will lower the tractor that is equipped with a rotating knife.
The worker will cut the trunk of the lower part of the tree
to reduce the weight of the tree.
This is done to avoid the breakage of the main part
and also the importance of tree length.
Farmers must prioritize a little loss
for production life in the long run.
This is a ripe Kenari fruit
and dark green.
Perhaps some of the consumers
have never seen Kenari nuts
when they are still in the shape of a fruit like this.
What they have seen is a peeled and clean Kenari nut.
Then when the skin of this Kenari starts to dry and open,
this is a sign that it's time to harvest it.
Harvesting Kenari nuts in this farm is done in a modern way,
using various types of harvester vehicles that work together.
One machine is responsible for shaking the Kenari tree
so that the cooked nuts will fall down.
The next is followed by the Wainrose tractor
which will sweep the Kenari to the middle of the road
between the Kenari tree lines.
Finally, the last tractor pulls a series of machines
which will mechanically take Kenari from the farm floor.
After all the Kenari nuts are collected,
they will send it to the drying warehouse.
This drying process begins when the Kenari nuts are put into the factory.
The dryer will remove the green or brown outer skin.
After all the outer skin is removed, the Kenari is then washed.
Finally, the Kenari is dried to a stable humidity,
generally around 8%.
After the drying is complete,
the Kenari nuts will be sent to the production room.
In the production room, the Kenari nuts will be chosen based on their condition
and will be made into two different products.
The first product is the whole Kenari.
The second is the contents of the nuts.
In the processing of the whole Kenari nuts,
the size division is involved.
This size division process
is done by passing the Kenari through a hole drum
which has a different size hole inside it
so that it is possible for Kenari of different sizes
to fall in different areas.
The Kenari is then passed through the last water washing
to remove dirt.
Next, the nuts are then visually sorted by hand
and packed into a bag by the workers.
In this condition, the Kenari is ready to be sent
to other processing factories and also to consumers around the world.
Meanwhile, for the product containing the Kenari nuts,
the nuts will be brought to the Kenari machine
with a centrifugal machine that will bring the nuts to the side of the cylinder
and press it with a rotating rotor.
Then the nuts and contents of the nuts
are brought through a series of fans
which will separate the nuts from the kernels.
The kernels or contents of the nuts
are then categorized into sizes such as the whole
and pieces.
The large and whole pieces are the main products
while the medium to small pieces
will be used as food toppings.
And lastly, the workers visually check the product
by sorting it by hand.
The Kenari is now ready to be packed
and sent from California to consumers around the world.
