In 2016, Singapore became internationally recognized as one of the world's hotbeds
for culinary talent. That's some good, good, good food. My goodness. It was this time in
history that Mechelin, the undisputed barometer of good taste, included the Southeast Asian nation
into its guide. Thank you so much. You're welcome. Enjoy. And I'm here to show you why by visiting
the all-famous Singaporean food courts, hawker style. Alright guys, so we're just heading to
Albert Center right now and it is one of the many hawkers food centers here in Singapore that whip
up some delicious and affordable food. So let's walk on over there. We're only a few minutes away
and we're going to show you guys the hawker center for lunch and a hawker center for dinner
and how you can stay on a budget while traveling here in Singapore.
Alright, so right now we are in the Albert's Hawker Food Center and so far what I've noticed
is they do mostly just Chinese food here but they do a variety of different things from rice,
noodles, desserts, and drinks. So there's so much for you to try. So we're gonna eat here for lunch
and for dinner we'll take you to another food center that offers more variety in terms of
Indian cuisine, Singaporean cuisine, Malaysian cuisine, and Chinese cuisine. Let's find something
for me to eat. Brandon got some, it looks pretty thick, some thick looking laksa.
It is good. It's good. That laksa I had in Malaysia, not good. This, real good.
So I did spot me some noodles that I wanted to try. Wonton noodles, that's what I want.
Hey guys, it's so cheap. So they have a bunch of different noodles. You can see the prices on it,
$3.50, $3.50, $4.00, so really really affordable. But I think I'm gonna go with the...
Can I get the this one right here with the kway teow? Yeah. You want spicy?
Just a little bit please. So I'm gonna go for this one here guys, it's $4.00 and I'm gonna go with
the kway teow and that's like a type of sauce on it I believe. And she's gonna make it a tiny bit
spicy for me but I haven't had noodles here in Singapore yet so I'm kind of excited to try it
and I'm also gonna grab a drink from a lady over there because guys, the tea, the lemon teas in
Singapore are top-notch. Okay, thank you so much. You're welcome, enjoy. Alright guys, so you can see
here I got some pork, I got some big thick noodles actually and then some crispy wontons
and there's a little bit of soup here for me to try. Wow guys, the pork, delicious.
This is good. The broth kind of tastes a little bit like crab, it has a little kick to it,
it's a little bit spicy and I'm gonna try the crispy wonton now. Let's see how that one tastes.
There's just an explosion of flavors once it hits your tongue.
Wow guys, this is incredible and another great thing is, again, it's so, so, so affordable.
Alright guys, I demolished that and that was delicious but now it's time for a little bit
of dessert. How much for one? One for $2. Okay, how many kids? You want two? I can share one, I'm like full.
So it looks like they got yams too, sweet potatoes. Yams. That's yam? No. No? Oh.
Okay, how many guys? So you guys can see the list that they have here, they have durians,
they have sweet potato ball, tapioca, and let's see, over here, yeah, a bunch of different ones.
Thank you. We got some dessert, we got some fried banana.
They look a little bit different from the ones I'm used to in Vietnam, they're huge.
Big, juicy. Cheers buddy. Very sweet. I wish we had these in Canada.
You can do this in Canada. You can do this in Canada. It's so, so sweet. Check it out guys,
pure deliciousness guys. So in terms of budget eating, if you're like backpacking through and
you're passing through Singapore, you can generally keep your meals for $20 and under a day because
most meals are $5 at Hawker Stalls. Most of these meals are $5 to $8, that's the range. It's really
affordable if you stick to Hawker Street food markets to eat because there's like, how many
have we gone to? Oh, there's one within every five blocks. Yeah, there's one within every five blocks.
I think we've been to four different ones so far and every single time we have not been disappointed
by the food. Just incredible, incredible affordable food here in Singapore, which we did not realize
because we didn't know what a Hawker Stall was until we went to Malaysia and then I found out
they actually had it in Singapore too. This morning we had a bunch of Chinese food and it was mainly only
Chinese dishes at Albert's Hawker Center. So now we're going to be heading over to Tekka Hawker
Center and apparently they have some of the best Indian food there and again, really, really
affordable. But the temperature is a little bit cooler now, we're not sweating our asses off and
it's about golden hour right now. So we're just walking there 15 minutes from our place.
Looks busy at all these ones too. Nice to see, got some here, we got some here. Oh, cheese prata.
Yeah, that's not bad. I mean this seems like a good stop right here because you got drinks here,
you got roti here or prata and then you also have like the main Indian dish right here.
I don't know what they're doing here, this is pretty cool. Oh my god.
Got some fresh naan cooking up here guys.
Okay, I'll just get the cheese naan and the aloo gobi. Okay. Pardon me? For here, for here.
All right guys, check it out. I just got my order, waiting for my change and then we're
gonna go find a spot somewhere to sit down. I got my food, looks great. Hello boss,
can I please get a lime juice? One lime juice. Okay. Way less people here guys,
it was so busy down at the other ones. Although I think it's the same place,
they have the same looking menu. Coconut, sugarcane, oh and they got lassi here too.
I gave that guy a fist bump back there because he saved my camera from falling actually.
So I got my plate of food, put some gobi onto my cheese naan.
That's some of the best gobi I've ever had.
It's so good, so imagine it in India. Similarly when I got the same thing after I was saying
how good it is. I can't eat rice anymore man, I can't eat rice anymore. Chef's kiss guys,
that was incredible. I have a little bit more room to find something else and to review something
else for you guys. I'm gonna go on a hunt for some more food. Now this side looks a little
bit more dead than the other side. Now I don't know if hanging meat is your guys' jam but I've
had it all over the world and it's been absolutely delicious. Char suey and roasted meat, right?
Yes, here. Just one please, yeah. It looks delicious. This looks so good. So we have
some pork right here and they got this like house-made sauce and then I think this is
either duck or pork, I'm not really sure. So it does come with some soup. This
almighty plate of food right here and all of this was only four dollars and fifty cents.
Hello.
That was straight up the weirdest encounter ever. She just walked up behind Brennan
and stood behind him. So guys, this is the pork belly and the rice. You can see it's glazed in
that sauce right there. Alright, let's try it. Man, these places deserve a Michelin star.
Their food is so good. Nothing bad to say about the food here. I've not had one single dish
in Singapore that I did not like and the best ones we have tried have been at Hawker Food
Markets. Truly, truly blown away by the affordability of this food for how good it
tastes. Crazy cheap. But if you like this video, please like, subscribe, and comment and I will
see you guys with my finger guns in Cambodia.
