SpaceX Starship orbital is on the edge! FAA green light???
Well well, it’s March already, and for all intents and purposes, this might finally be the month when we get to see SpaceX’s newest and most interesting rocket, the Starship, take off for the first time in a trip to Earth orbit. At least there’s reason to hope that’s going to be so after a senior SpaceX director said the FAA green light for the first orbital launch of its next-generation Starship rocket in the “very near future.”

As a final step as usual before every launch, the Orbital Launch Mount (OLM) legs are recently receiving a fresh coat of paint. The paint is there to protect against rust since they’re basically on the beach.
In the past weeks, SpaceX installed shielding on this important structure. Judging by the photos of Starship Gazer on Mar 5, the top half is almost done. Couple more weeks and we’ll have the bottom as well.
This will make huge sense. NASA had lots of issues with the Space Shuttle program of the ground support equipment on the tower being damaged. Stuff like faces blown off of gages or wires burned.
But after completing this, the team will need some light in there to work inside that tunnel.
And of course, we are not going to be able to look at all the intricate internal systems of the launch mount once the covers go up.
Anyways, these shields are crucial. They’re not just here for the looks, right?
Next, using this launch mount, Starship is expected to attempt to complete some of the riskiest and most challenging tests SpaceX has ever conducted at its Starbase rocket development facilities: " the first full-stack “wet dress rehearsal.
Ultimately, if that testing produces the results SpaceX wants to see, the first orbital launch will happen with Ship 24 and Booster 7.
