Castle Desenberg Ruin, Germany
The hill is visible from far away on the highway.
Atop stands the ruins of Castle Desenberg.
The castle used to be a political and military strategic point between the 11th and 15th century in Germany’s Westphalia.
The first mention of the castle was during the time of the Saxon-wars around 776. Unfortunately, the castle has been deteriorating for many centuries already.
Today the site’s ruins overlook the valley, creating a scenic sanctuary for hiking fans.
While the trail is categorized as easy, those who do not walk more than the occasional stroll might feel somewhat challenged.
The view from atop the tower of the castle ruin is stunning and well worth the ascend.
A bench overlooking the entire valley below offers the perfect ambience to dose off into nostalgia. As I sat here overlooking the landscape below I could not help but ponder what life must have been like here centuries ago. Then, when the castle was pulsating with life and its intact walls enclosed the nobles and night who gave the castle its purpose.
