What Life Inside The SpaceX Starship Will Be Like!
SpaceX has been working on some variant of the Big Falcon Rocket for a decade, with a publicly announced architecture for 6 years. The target performance figures are on the Starship website, has been endlessly dissected on Twitter, Reddit, Youtube, and there are even many live streams of construction.
Yet none of the oft-published mainstream seems to capture the magnitude of life inside Starship to Mars. You know, Starship is a great idea in theory but six months is a very long time to spend in a metal box.
So let’s talk about this in today's episode of Great SpaceX.
Firstly, what is the ideal number of Starship pilots?
Starship flights carrying the first humans to Mars are optimally planned for the Mars launch window after the launch of the first two (or more) uncrewed Starship vehicles. Therefore, on human arrival on Mars, there will already be at least two cargo Starships on the surface. This second wave of missions can include two Starships carrying crew plus additional uncrewed/cargo Starships.
The human Starships will have on the order of 1,100 m3 forward space, most of which will be pressurized for human habitation, an 800 m3 LOX tank, and a 600 m3 methane tank with a stainless steel primary structure.
Elon Musk has talked about sending 100 people at once, but all the signs are pointing in this direction. Now let's see what this means.
