Autumn Ferns!

Fern Friday! The last fern Friday of season fern Friday season 2. I’m wrapping things up with the Autumn Fern! The Autumn ferns I’m using in this video are the, ‘Brilliance’ variety. Dryopteris erythrosora ‘Brillance’ is an evergreen to semi-evergreen perennial fern for growing zones 4-9. Autumn ferns are fantastic ferns for gardeners that may struggle with a lot of other ferns. The Autumn fern is a very easy to grow fern! Their care requirements are typical of any standard fern, moist, organically rich soil that drains well with 3 to 6 hours of sunlight, preferable to afternoon shade and morning sun. Being not one of the more delicate ferns they will do well for urban gardens where sometimes other ferns don’t tolerate the added air and soil pollutions sometimes found in heavily populated cities. The Autumn ferns have coppery to bronze colored new foliage that fades to green with age. The Brilliance variety just has some extra color intensity and color to it’s fresh foliage and fiddleheads. I have never tried this fern as a houseplant but I don’t see why one couldn’t give it a go.
