Greek island of CHIOS: Medieval village built like a fortress 🏚️, village of AVGONIMA

Hello this is Vic. Welcome to my channel and thank you for viewing my videos. Today I'm in Greece and I'm visiting the fifth largest of the Greek islands. I'm in the beautiful island of Chios here in the Aegean Sea. In this particular video we're going to visit a medieval village that was built around 1000 after Christ and which has been rebuilt in beautiful style over the last 20 years or so. So let's go for a walk and let's admire the views and the architecture of the magnificent buildings here in the village of Abgonima in the center of Chios. Let's do it. And here's our first view of this beautiful medieval village here on the Greek island of Chios. This village was created around 1000 Christ and it was built in truly medieval style. Every house would be a square tower just like this one that you see here. It was built, every house that is like a fortress and all the houses put together would create the magnificent fortress of Abgonima. Now during the last 20 or so years a lot of work has been done to this village to reconstruct the ruined houses and I think the Greeks have done an absolutely marvelous job. So let's walk around this village. Let's admire the views on a very hot July day. Let's admire the architecture of the houses as well and some of the preserved or leftover towers. Let's walk around and let's see what else we can find. And that's a beautifully renovated tower house right there. We're going to see a few around the village of Abgonima and the tower house will consist of at least three floors. We're also going to see a lot of the smaller houses square like this one. Two floors in size and in height square as well. We're going to see quite a few of them. They have been beautifully rebuilt in this village. And here is a beautifully renovated house very close to the center of the village. You can see that this one is for sale. That's the sign up there. Look at this wonderful work they have done here to rebuild this with stone. Absolutely beautiful. The architecture is just stunning isn't it? That's the balcony up there right there. And here's another beautiful example of a renovated tower. You can see it right there. Three floors beautifully redone with a beautiful yard in the front. Unfortunately some of the houses were too far gone and they have been left abandoned around the village. Here is one here. This at one time used to be a very large tower square in shape. Here's the front door. And here's another house which is too far gone. You cannot rescue this one. And next to it you can find two beautiful houses. Here's the corner of the first one here. Here's the other one. These two are very good candidates to be rebuilt and preserved. They're in very good shape. And another one here. Wouldn't you love to buy this one and completely renovate it? Here's the front door and a front view of it. And here's another beautiful example of a renovated house. This one during medieval times must have been a very small house as you can see here. But it has been renovated to include the area around it. You can see the beautiful balcony over here and the staircase. Quite possibly here they have joined the house next to this one. They have generated a single property as you can see. And that's the small house that we just looked at. I wanted to show you another frontal view of this beautiful home here now that the sun is out. It looks absolutely magnificent doesn't it? This is by far the most beautiful home here at the village.
