So if you're new here, I'm short. As in, just over five feet short. So with that
comes certain trends that work amazing on us petites and some that just do not. So the trends
coming this fall and this winter are not short girl friendly for lengthening our frames or helping
us avoid looking like a marshmallow. So I'm here to help you navigate this season so that we can
still keep looking great and then ditch these three frumpy styles. So I'll be referencing an
article by who, what, where, if you want to see the full list of trends in the description box.
Also, if you want to know more about how to actually discover your unique personal style,
or maybe you feel lost as to how to find it, I'm going to be reopening my course, which is
master the art of personal style this month. So you don't want to miss out on that this time.
I made it a step-by-step guide that is over 70 lessons long, and you can be the first to know
when enrollment opens by signing up for my waitlist at dearlybethany.com. This summer,
over 2,000 people joined and over a thousand of you are already on the list for this fall.
So I just cannot wait for enrollment to open again in just a few days. Okay, let's get on
with the trends to avoid. First, I'm going to tell you why each trend is a don't, what to do instead,
and then ways that you can still incorporate it if you must wear it. Chunky knits can add
unnecessary bulk and remove your flattering curves. So basically, wherever you do not want
to add bulk on top, it's going to add it. And there are warmer ways to get dressed anyways
than a standard cable knit sweater, especially when that cold autumn wind just cuts straight
through your sweater. It's just freezing and I always feel like I could have planned a little
bit better. So instead, opt for thin layers. Remember that fall is the most creative season
to dress for because think about it, you could have like three layers on top. Think a thin
turtleneck, a thin cardigan, and then add a trench to that. So you can be wearing all of them in the
morning and then as you warm up through the day, each layer is removed. So it's like wearing a new
outfit every time that you remove a layer. So if you must wear a chunky cable knit, you can minimize
the bulk by showing skin. You can pull up your sleeves. You could do a half tuck in the front
and then just show some of your waistline and your leg underneath. Or you could find one that's
cropped up or has vents on the sides instead of just having to tuck it in if tucking in is just
not your preference. Other than that, you could have a longer cardigan version that is past your
widest point. I actually have a video coming up specifically on how to finally master knitwear.
So if you're not subscribed, you can make sure to do that now below just so that you don't miss out
on any upcoming videos. The second trend is oversized totes sadly. And why this is a bad thing
is because if you are walking down the street or maybe you're walking into work and the boss sees
you on the way to work, they will notice the tote that is ironically huge and it will make the tote
holder, which is you, look ironically small. So instead you can opt for smaller handbags. So you
guys who have followed this channel for a long time know that the safest bet is to not have a bag
that overwhelms you. And instead you can choose a clutch or a small handheld bag whenever you can.
But it's not my first day on earth and I totally understand that laptops and books and diaper bags
are just things that people have to bring with them all day. So what do you do in those cases?
Well, my suggestion is if you must bring a large oversized bag, then let that bag color blend with
your outfit. Think if you're wearing a black outfit, choose a darker bag or a black bag,
but inside it always carry with you a smaller bag like a clutch so that if you're running to go get
coffee really quick, then you don't need to carry the whole kit and caboodle with you. And the third
trend, which you've probably heard me say before, but I have to bring it up because it's getting
out of hand, is low slung jeans. I get that low rise is a preference, but as a cautionary tale
from somebody who can remember the early 2000s, if you're trying low rise now, imagine yourself
in 10 years looking back at your outfit and just ask if it really makes you look good or if you
wonder why you wore that. Especially short-legged girls like myself. The way low rise jeans are worn
today is generally looser than they were in the 2000s and that can create more of this cool
devil-may-care vibe, I'll admit. But I never recommend a low rise in regards to helping
you look taller because it stunts that optical illusion of your leg length. So what happens
instead is that it lengthens the torso, the top half. So instead, all hail queen high rise. To my
fellow petites or anybody who wants to visually elongate the leg, then high rise will always be
our best friend. But if you must dabble in these low rise dark arts, whether that's just appealing
to you as a style or if high rise is just too high for your torso length, then you can definitely
stick to a mid-rise. And that's my review of the three fall trends that are not so petite-friendly
and what to wear instead. So remember that all trends are fine to adopt because your style,
of course, should be fun and not boring. But trends should always remain true to your style
and your taste. So you don't have to feel like you have to change how you dress because of a
trend. And again, don't forget to join the waitlist for my upcoming style masterclass
if you're interested in that. And you can find out everything about it down at dearlybethany.com
in the description box below. So with that, I'll see you in a few days. Bye!
