What's going on guys? Cory Joyce, infielder in the Detroit Tigers organization.
We're here at X2 Baseball today and it's a day in the life.
So I started playing baseball when I was about four or five years old.
It really was an influence of my grandpa or my brother.
My brother was a pitcher but he's pretty much what got me into baseball.
I pretty much chose North Carolina Central because I wanted to play Division I.
But at the same time it was like I didn't have anywhere else to go.
It was pretty much my only offer so NCCU was it for me.
Definitely one of my strengths is pretty good defensively in the infield.
I'd say one of my weaknesses would be to pretty much attack my arm strength.
Arm strength has been a big one this offseason.
I've really been focusing on obviously getting the arm stronger.
Really opening up the scap and the shoulder.
So I basically started taking baseball a little more seriously when I was about a sophomore, junior in high school.
I really tried to just get in the weight room as much as possible.
Get stronger, get faster, get bigger.
Honestly that was when I really wanted to go to college.
I wanted to play professionally and the dream just got bigger and bigger.
Now we're one step closer.
Most of the time we would get in late.
12, 1 o'clock because of the game last night.
So waking up probably 10, 11 o'clock.
Get some breakfast.
Headed over to the field.
Do some treatment, some other things.
Get some early work in.
1, 2 o'clock goes around.
We start taking batting practice 3, 4 o'clock.
Get ready for the game.
Come back in the clubhouse.
Get something to eat.
Relax.
We've got about an hour or so and just get ready for the game.
For high schoolers to get acknowledged, I guess try to stand out.
Play the game the right way.
Stay in the weight room.
You hit the ball far.
You run fast.
Any way that you can stand out.
One of the things I wish I knew when I was younger,
especially in high school, was my diet.
How much it impacted me on the field.
It might not have impacted me much in high school,
but it definitely does now.
I think that's one of the most important things as athletes
is making sure you fuel your body with the right things.
My favorite player to play against was E.P. Reese.
Shout out to E.P.
We go way back.
We played high school ball together.
Growing up as well, we played together.
We finally got to play against each other in 2019, so it was fun.
What's up, guys?
To start off the day, we basically started at one athletics.
Wednesday is just agility work, no weight training at all.
Went through some agility, some straight line stuff.
Ran some 10s, some laser 10s,
and then headed over here to X2 Baseball in Concord, North Carolina.
Basically ran through my hitting routine,
what I do pre-hitting as far as med ball stuff.
Did some T work, and then ran through some front toss stuff,
some short bat, some heavy bat,
and then basically just worked off the hack attack, the machine.
Got the hit tracks working in there, so that's pretty much it.
We kind of took it light today.
Get ready to go for tomorrow.
