Hi my friends! Welcome to Plants and Lucia.
My name is Lucia and this little guy right here is Martin.
Today we talk about the Lid Hops.
Okay, coming up!
Whether you are coming back or this is your first time in this channel,
thank you so much for watching this video.
This channel is all about houseplants,
so if you want to learn how to take care of them,
how to display them, or even how to connect with them,
make sure to subscribe so we can see each other every Tuesday and Thursday
and talk about plants.
But now, let's get to the video!
These little guys are amazing, you guys!
They are known as Lid Hops or Living Stone Plants,
because they resemble stones.
They grow extremely slowly.
It can actually take years for a plant to grow into a pot,
but that's what makes it so exciting to actually see when they grow.
It's a slow relationship.
The Living Stone are actually made of two leaves.
These two leaves are super thick,
and they actually unite in the root.
As you can see, this one right here flowered already,
but the flower is already gone,
so most likely it will fall down.
This little plant actually belongs to the Mesembryantenum family.
I hope I said that right,
but please let me know in the comments if I'm mispronouncing this.
But now, let's talk about how you can keep your Living Stone happy at your house.
So, let's talk about temperature.
This plant will be happy with warmer temperatures during the summer
and colder temperatures during the winter.
So during the summer, normal temperature in your house should be fine.
In the winter, you can have her in a room that is about 12 degrees Celsius
and she should be fine.
Living Stones thrive in full sunlight,
so provide as much light as possible.
A room with a south-facing window should be really good for your plant.
If you're not providing enough light,
you will see that the leaves are gonna elongate,
so this means that the plant needs more sunlight.
In terms of water, it's very important that we actually follow the year cycle of this plant.
In the summer, this plant goes dormant,
so it is better not to water her during the summer.
So water your plant when the soil is completely dry between May and July.
So, spring months.
And remember, this is a succulent, so make sure you don't overwater it.
To water it, soak the soil until the water starts running down the drainage hole
and let the water drain completely.
Very important to remember, make sure that the soil dries out in between waterings.
That way, you prevent overwatering your plant.
In terms of potting mix, use a cactus soil or a very fast draining potting soil with sand.
That way, you make sure that you have a very good drainage for this plant,
which is very important.
So, these are some of the tips that I can give you for this really cool plant.
