------------ ABOUT THIS VIDEO: Euphorbia Lactea Cristata care - Coral cactus This is an easy tutorial on the Euphorbia Lactea Cristata care (also known as the Coral Cactus) . So if you are looking for an easy video on the coral cactus care , or the Crested Euphorbia cactus care, this is the video for you ! The Euphorbia lactea , and more specifically the euphorbia lactea cristata , is a very beautiful plant. The Euphorbia plant really looks like a Mermaid's tail, or a whale's tale :). That's why I call my Euphorbia 'Marina'. The Euphorbia lactea cristata is also known as the coral cactus, crested Euphorbia, Euphorbia cactus crested, or Euphorbia lactea crest.
Hi my friends and welcome back to Plants and Lucia.
My name is Lucia and this right here is Marina.
I call her like that because she looks like a mermaid or a whale,
so it reminds me of the ocean.
Okay, today we talk about the coral cactus.
Okay, coming up!
Whether you are coming back or this is your first time in this channel,
thank you so much for watching this video.
This channel is all about houseplants,
so if you want to learn how to take care of them,
how to display them, or even how to connect with them,
make sure to subscribe so we can see each other every Tuesday and Thursday
and talk about plants.
But now, let's get to the video.
Although this is called the coral cactus, this is actually not a cactus.
It is only called a cactus because of its similar appearance
and because it is cared for in a similar way.
This is actually an African succulent and it comes from the Euphorbia genus family.
It looks very much like a coral reef.
It can come in different colors.
Of course there is a green one like this one,
you can have white, you can have yellow and pink.
It's super beautiful.
And it has a thick green stem.
I gotta say the coral cactus is quite unique looking.
This plant is very easy to grow.
I think the main thing is not to overwater it,
just like with many succulents.
But we will get to this in a moment.
For now, let's see how you can keep your coral plant happy at your home.
In terms of temperature, the coral cactus likes warm and sunny conditions.
So keep your plant in a partially sunny spot
with average temperatures no lower than 15 degrees Celsius.
Since this is a succulent, she prefers lower humidity levels.
So I would recommend that you put her in a room that doesn't have high humidity levels,
like the bathroom or the kitchen.
These rooms tend to have higher humidity levels than other rooms in the house.
Also don't place your plant close to a humidifier
or to a spot where you have many tropical plants together,
since they tend to raise humidity levels around them.
So I actually have my cactus plant close to other succulents
and this helps her because the humidity levels are lower around them.
In terms of sunlight, these plants really prefer sunny spots.
However, if you live in a place that has high temperatures and lots of sunlight,
provide them with partial sunlight.
One thing to remember is that this plant will grow towards the sun.
So I would recommend that you turn it once in a while to maintain a balanced shape.
So let's talk about water.
Since this plant is a succulent, you want to make sure not to over water your plant.
So the way that I check if my plant needs water is with my finger.
But this time I actually check from the bottom
because the roots are actually at the bottom.
So I check through the drainage holes to make sure that the soil is dry.
Once I feel that the soil is dry, then I water.
Although I strongly recommend to check the soil,
a good rule of thumb is to water your plant during spring and summer,
every week or every two weeks,
and reduce watering to once a month during autumn and winter.
Make sure to let the soil dry in between waterings.
When we talk about potting mix, a cactus soil mix should be fine for this plant.
You just have to make sure that the potting mix is light and has very good drainage.
In terms of toxicity, the coral cactus is actually poisonous.
So it shouldn't be ingested by humans or animals.
So keep it away from the reach of children or your cat or dog.
If you cut it, it actually produces a sap that can be irritating to the skin.
So if it happens to touch your skin, wash immediately.
Okay my friends, these are some of the tips that I use
to take care of this beautiful coral cactus.
