Can I Hit 100 MPH with a Metal Bat?

Hey, what's going on guys? So today I'm here with high schooler, Nick Villano. We're going to swing his 2022 Louisville Slugger Select Power. I get asked all the time about different bats. Nick is swinging this one right now. This is his gamer. So we're going to swing it. I'm going to try to swing it. Nick will probably beat me. We've got the Rapsodo out. We're going to check exit speed, see how far we can hit it. I'll try not to hurt myself tonight. But with this bat right here, it's a three piece alloy barrel, composite handle, slightly unloaded. So we'll see how it feels. We'll see how it hits. We'll take, I don't know, what do you think? 30 swings each? 50 swings. We'll take 50 swings and let's go. Oh my, first one, 326, 87 miles an hour. Oh, that's going to be the one right there that, oh man, I thought you hit that 95. That ball's crushed. Low line drive. Good. All right. Let's hope I don't injure myself. I beat you, Nick. That'll work nice in a game. Oh, that ball's hit well right there. That's going to be close to me. 90 something. Yeah, 90.4. That was hit well. I think I jammed a little on that, yeah. I got into that ball. That ball's got to go pretty good. Jeez Louise, that's it? That's called, that's called old man. Yeah, I hit it good, but I got around it a little. Couple more. Too high. I'm cheating a little bit and trying to hit them lower to get them, I'm going to try to hit a homer on this one. Still too low. I really like this bat though. Nope, I got jammed a little bit. Just missed it. That would have been the big one if I didn't get jammed. Oh, I know, but I'm around the ball. That's got to be 90. Yeah, that might be my bat of choice if I win. I know it's only the first one, but I feel super comfortable. You better watch out, Nick, because if I'm 94 something today, oh, you almost got me. I'm going to get, give me another few weeks. I'm going to get into the hundreds. That ball's hit well. Did you get a good one on that? No. 90? Yeah, 96. That sounds- That's not right. That one isn't right. That one sounded different off your bat. Nope. That's a rollover. Oh my God, that almost hit me in the ankle. I know, that thing cut in on me big time. Nope. So that's the most jammed I've ever been. And I got a barely a little bit of sting. And I got that thing off my knuckles. That's the first time I felt anything in my hands. Hit hard, but only a single. That's got to be hit hard and far. Hit it higher. That's the only thing that stings. Because I hit that one really hard. Like that ball's destroyed right there. I know, I felt like I killed that ball. Oh, I might break the machine. Nope. Oh, I hit that really far. Yeah. See, it works against you to hit the ball in the air. Yeah, it's just too high. Oh, I got jammed big time on that. That's got to be fast. That ball's crushed. Nope. That was hit decent, but down. Last one. Okay. So we just finished up and I'm still walking. So that's good. I didn't hurt myself. So we both hit some pretty good balls. The high was 97.2. One thing that we were talking about that we're interested in is it felt like with the Rapsodo, we had to hit the ball lower to get it to read higher. So that's something we're going to mess around with. If you know anything about Rapsodos, we drove some balls in the air, but they always said they were a little bit slower. So we'll figure that out. But as far as the bat goes, I'll give my thoughts and I'd like to hear your thoughts. You've used it more than I have. Couple things. The first thing is if I were to come back and play again, this might be my bat. Not that I've swung a ton of bats, but I like the slightly unloaded where I can feel some weight down the barrel, but it still felt rather balanced, which I liked. Felt like it was a pretty big sweet spot. I hit one ball. I think I probably hit it almost off the connection piece. And that was the only ball that kind of rang my hands just a little bit, but I could get balls almost anywhere and nothing off my hands. It feels really, really good. What are your thoughts overall? So I've been using the Select Power since the first model in late 2019. And it's been my gamer ever since. I feel like the sweet spot, it'd be hard to see from here, but sweet spot pretty much goes from here all the way to the start of the Louisville Slugger logo. And like you said, not a lot of ringing of the hands. And I like with the weighting where it's enough weight that it can take me through the zone and have enough power, but also not too much weight where the bat's swinging me. So I feel like I have nice control and I'm able to drive the ball the way I want consistently with this bat. That's what I felt like. I felt like it was a good combo for, you don't have to be a huge guy to swing it. You're a little bit bigger than me. Maybe geared slightly towards a little bit of a stronger guy with a little more bat speed, but not overdoing it. So, but we try a bunch of different bats. This is our first one that we've tried. I have not swung a metal bat in a long time. I've only swung with bats. So I'm interested to continue to try them out, but good first bat. So we'll get some low seam major league balls that I think we'll add a little bit extra because I've got to get to 100. I was actually, I'm actually quite surprised I got to 97. I didn't think I was going to get to that today, but we've got major league balls. We'll hit it over a hundred and also got to figure out how we can get it to read a little bit better in the air because we hit some balls really, really well in the air that would read 90. And if I hit the same ball and I just hit it lower, it read 97 and we're losing a little bit of distance there. So we don't like round balls. No. Anyways, really good bat.
