Whitewater rafting the Wind River through the Wind River Canyon should be at the top of your list of things to do in Thermopolis, Wyoming!

It is exhilarating enough to drive through the canyon. But to see the beauty of the canyon from the river is truly spectacular.

This part of the Wind River is controlled by the dam. During spring the spillway will open wide and send millions of gallons of water racing through the Wind River Canyon.

From the road, these waves look small. But find the opportunity to race down the river on a raft and you'll see how powerful the rapids can be!

We ran the lower half of the wind river, which was the most action-packed portion. With two back-to-back class 4 rapids and a handful of class 2+ within a few miles, you feel as though you hardly have time to rest and enjoy the scenery between rapids!

Note that there is only one whitewater rafting outfit with permission to guide through the canyon, as the river lies on Reservation.
