Open Rice is now at Menjin Oriental to meet a half-Egyptian, half-Chinese, sexy, exotic,
celebrity chef, Bobby Chin.
Great food is not limited to restaurants. You can find it on street corners all over
the world. And I'll show you exactly where our undiscovered traveler live in.
Welcome to Singapore, Chef Bobby.
Thank you for having me. It's nice to be back.
So, to get the ball rolling, if you were street food, what would you be and why?
I would be Kway Teow.
And why?
Because it's silky smooth, a little smoky, spiced with different textures, and the egg
is scrambled in there.
I'm sure you've tried all sorts of street food before. So what's the yuckiest street
food you've ever tried?
It'd have to be the silkworm. It laces the palate with oil, so no matter what you drink,
to get rid of the taste, it's still there. Just lingering on and on and on. It's terrible.
We know that you like getting up close and personal to your street food vendors. Any
bad experiences?
None to speak of. They're all very friendly. It's like salt of the earth. It's like you
meet people that have been doing one thing for three generations. They do it very well.
They enjoy feeding people. They're very open. And I kind of like help them and learn a lot
of recipes from the streets.
Any foodie experiences you have while filming?
It's one huge foodie experience. I just go around, I eat, I gain weight, I got indigestion.
Oh yeah, I've gained four kilos after the Middle East. Because you keep on eating. You
train your mind. You're full, but then you need to take one more take.
