I was walking along through the desert,

The dust and the wind in my hair,

When a shadow I saw in the distance,

A woman, alone standing there.

She was tired and gaunt and dejected,
Her head bowed and eyes to the ground,
I asked for her name and she smiled,
I’m Truth she replied without sound,

I said, why have you left the city,
Why walk through the waste all alone?
She said long ago I was welcome,
And dwelt freely in every home.

But now falsehood lives in the city,
In the markets and courthouses too,
In the temple, the school and the family,
There’s nothing more that I can do.
