GROWING A CHRISTMAS TREE FROM SEED / EMMA'S ALLOTMENT VLOGMAS

just found my gloves down here bloody hell what are they doing down there guys oh my god oh i don't know how they got there but at least i found him morning everyone welcome back to another vlogmas my name is emma this is my first ever allotment plot i would love you to subscribe to my channel lots of you are hello new subscribers it's nice to see you here um not see you but have you here and see the numbers and stuff i don't know what i'm saying i wasn't at the plot yesterday that's why there wasn't a plot video there was like a favorites video but i do like doing those sometimes i know people don't like watching them so much but i like doing them because i can look back on them um so i hope you enjoyed that video i'm sure i will find out later today i found my gloves so i've hung them up and they're gonna take about four years to dry but the point is i found them yeah they're dripping onto my seeds actually they shouldn't be doing that right um i have brought with me today some cling film because these um what they're called sweet pea seeds are not germinating and i also have got some other seeds that i purchased which are really exciting um but a little bit i don't know not not the norm not the norm that's what i'll say about that norway spruce seeds now i had this idea i was watching a christmas film at the weekend with my kids and this guy i think it's called something to do with lights christmas lights or something deck the halls and this guy planted his own christmas trees and he had like them all growing and every year he went and chopped down the biggest one so i thought how cool would that be so i've got some norway spruce seeds and i just thought why not just plant them and see what happens i mean that would be exciting i think it takes about six years to grow but in six years time i could have a christmas tree at the plot which is pretty exciting so we're gonna plant those all right these have been here a while now i don't know when i planted them because i can't remember but i don't think they're going to germinate guys i think it's too cold in this shed and i just don't think they're going to germinate so i've got a new plant right i saw someone do this on a pit on um instagram and what they basically did was they got a bit of tissue like this they wet it with some water put the sweet pea seeds on it covered it and then they germinated and then after they germinated they planted so that's what i'm gonna do i don't know why i told you i talked you just i just talked you through it when i'm literally just about to do it it's just ridiculous oh what we do a bit of water on there mine are all still oh god look at this this is the thing as well i don't know if the seeds are actually ready to pick so i don't actually know if these seeds are viable or not like who knows who knows the point is we'll give it a try it's all you can do it's all you can do is try filming a video i'm filming a instagram thing while i'm filming on this camera i'm very confused right now i don't know what's going on i think these look like sweet pea seeds so all right i'm gonna whack the lid on let me film that bit on my phone as well oh god multitasking all right lovely and then we'll just whack it on the shed windows right that's then done so hopefully that would just help germinate the seeds a bit quicker and then i'll whack them in the pots again and then i'll just have some early sweet peas the next year is the idea right the next thing i'm going to plant is this christmas tree seeds there's no bloody instructions on this um so i'm just going to whack them in pots and put some cling film over it and hope they germinate don't know never done this before pretty sure you've never done this before too so it'd be an experiment for all of us hang about guys there is instructions with this right it says these seeds have a shallow dormancy and need a period of cold treatment before they will germinate so they need to be cold they're a bit like bulbs i think um so planting them outdoors october to january place the pots in a sheltered spot cold frame or unheated greenhouse check regularly make sure compost doesn't dry out and the seedlings will emerge in the spring when the weather heats up so i don't have a cold frame what i'm gonna do is i will sprinkle it on something right figure this out i can't imagine they're too fussy because they are it's a tree so like it would normally it would just fall onto the ground and whatever soil was there it would grow in so i can't imagine it's too fussy oh it feels good to be digging in the soil it really does this is my happy happy place right i might do put some of the weeds out all right what we'll do is we'll cover them with the cling film there's a bloody aeroplane now so you can't hear me um and then i'll put i'll make some kind of cold frame guys bear with me oh there's a worm in it ah got a worm i don't need to water them probably yes seeds probably do need water i remember correctly all right okay now we'll now we'll cover them honestly i know i say i'm not good at this stuff but i do know that seeds need water guys all right that is sort of the best i can do as a sort of temporary makeshift cold frame i mean they're in the cling film so i think you know and and they're supposed to get cold it's just a sheet of glass that i've just propped over it but i don't know i don't bloody know that's sort of all i've got right now um unless i've got like a box or something i can put them in hang on let me go and check actually let me have one more look oh it's like a spider like hanging here oh no it's a fly i often get confused between spiders and flies just like everyone does just found this old pot that's been thrown away maybe i'll whack them in that and just put the sheet glass over the top it won't be a perfect cold frame but it might work a little bit better let me try it just so it's got some sides to it you know what i mean gives it a little bit more shelter too i think it's not the most attractive or safest thing i've ever done but do you see what i mean how it just gives it a little bit of sides around it too which i think is the point of a cold frame yeah i think that's probably a bit better anyway time will tell we'll find out we'll find out together whether my idea is a genius or a load of crap so that's the fun isn't it that's the fun of it you don't know what's going to grow you don't know if it's going to work i might have christmas trees in six years time or i might just have some old pots don't know you don't know so there's a few projects that i want to get going with and sort of run out of supplies um you know how i like my supplies like little bits of wood and stuff so when the urge takes me i can be creative with it but i've sort of run out of supplies now so i need to like top up on old wood and stuff i'm going to email the allotment committee about those windows and palettes as well just see if i can take some of them but what i was thinking in here is i'm going to buy a bit of trellis just a little bit of trellis i'm going to stick it up on here somewhere and have hooks on it and hook some of my tools and stuff up on the wall i want to build a bird table as well you know how i enjoy building things but one of the most exciting ideas i actually have had brace yourselves guys is the roof of my shed i want to turn it into a living roof so basically i want to put some sides around it and then have a living roof like herbs or something on the roof yeah that's another project that i need to get going with so i need more supplies that's what i need i need i need wood where'd you find bloody these old paint pots here these are really useful for like holding flowers in and stuff but i was wondering if maybe they'd make quite a nice little insect hotel so i'm thinking sort of putting them together like that screwing them together obviously getting the paint out i don't want to give them paint poisoning or something but yeah and then creating a little insect hotel with them that'd be quite nice isn't it sometimes it's good to have a look along the pathway like this bit this is like no man's land and anything thrown in here is sort of dumpy stuff so let me just have a little wander around here just see if there's any like old bits of like wood and stuff that people just discarded one man's junk is another man's treasure there's a lot of wood here but i think it's an actual tree like i don't know what i could do with a tree that's a tree isn't it i don't want a tree there's some branches here though hang about guys i think i've hit the bloody jackpot here oh my god there's corrugated stuff in this wood here that's a bit rotted though look at this wonder if i can have that that'd be useful for something maybe not i don't want to take it for the sake of taking it you know what i mean because then i'll just end up with a load of rubbish in my plot again but um yeah i don't think any of that's really viable and i don't know what to do with it so i don't just want to bring junk onto my plot but well guys we've sown some seeds we've looked for wood we've talked about future plans i think i'll leave it there today it's so bloody nice here today i don't want to leave but i ain't got any bloody jobs to do um i might just try
