HARVESTING THE CABBAGE / EMMA'S ALLOTMENT VLOGMAS

Hi everyone, I'm so sorry that I didn't get around to putting a vlog up yesterday. If you are new to my channel my name is Emma, this is my first allotment plot and I'm just vlogging along and trying to take you on the journey of what it's like to own an allotment plot to take on your first one when you have flipping zero knowledge of gardening and you're just making it all up as you go along and it's kind of like the idea of it is that if I can do and I'm like pretty useless then anyone can do it and there's kind of no excuse to just get in there and give it a go because most of what I do here is just made up. I was going to come on and apologize for my last vlog but at the end of the day I'm vlog I'm trying to vlog every day and like not every day is going to be a happy day and I'm so stressed at the moment it's really weird because I get stressed at the same time at Christmas every year and I think it's the week that the kids finish school so the kids finish school tomorrow so when I pick them up tomorrow that's it my time is run out so I took yesterday off and I just wanted to relax and kind of like catch up with my stress levels and stuff yeah it was a good day I wrapped all the presents and I got loads of stuff ready I ordered the online shop for Christmas and I planned the menu for it and everything so I do feel a little bit more a little bit more on top of things right now which is good and I wanted to come here today and do a couple of little jobs that I thought of that need doing I also need to get the screw out the wheelbarrow because I still haven't done that after the spider incident hopefully it's buggered off now it's a really beautiful day here today it's so blue skies it's a little bit chilly but it's beautiful and I think that's what I really needed after my last time here I really needed like a nice happy day um so let's get on with a couple of jobs I'm gonna do oh hello who's this I haven't seen you for a while I haven't seen you for a while where have you been yeah where have you been have you been busy yeah have you been oh god oh god guys it's getting attached to me oh hi gosh you can really see I'm not a cat person I don't know what's happening right now I'm totally freaked out I'm just not a cat person at all I don't have any food for you are you all right what do you want oh no it's trying to grab the camera what's it doing that oh I don't have any food oh oh I don't know what it means because I've never had a cat before look it's quite cute it's trying to attack the camera now this is gonna follow me around now what do you want the cats eat apples do they eat apples do you want an apple I might have an apple do you like apples there's an apple there I've just thrown it an apple I don't know what to do I've never had a cat before so I don't know what it's doing um it's digging in my bed now but I won't have a go at it because it seems friendly what does it want it's doing what that bleeding fox did now sitting there just like that fox did remember oh god my animal's so drawn to me I just don't know how to respond to them sometimes like I'm not evil or anything I just don't know how to respond to animals like they're just creatures to me I just don't understand it anyway I was just checking for broccoli on here but I haven't got any yet I don't think where would the broccoli appear then would it appear in these bits like in the middle of them is that where I'm looking for broccoli I sort of assume because I'm assuming that broccoli is like a flower that you eat do you know what I mean I think it's like a flower and then like it would appear like out of these bits where you would expect a flower to and I'm guessing if you leave broccoli I'm guessing it opens up into some kind of flower it's always looked like a flower to me everyone says it looks like trees and I always said it looks like flower buds and no one ever believed me but I'm pretty sure that's what happens to broccoli if you leave it I'm pretty sure it turns into a flower okay right so there's no no movement on these yet fine I'm just checking to see the garlic and see if anything's actually come of those yet I don't think it has I'm gonna do something really naughty because I wasn't sure if I'd done the garlic right I'm actually gonna just dig in there a little bit and check one and you should never do this you should leave them but I'm impatient and also I want to know if I've done it right so I'm just going to check if anything's happening this is something only non-professionals should do only non-professionals should attempt this kind of idiocy at the plot look at that roots roots instead of that right excellent ah brilliant good right just pretend that never happened oh my god that is fantastic news they've got roots brilliant okay don't ever do that trust your gardening skills but I don't trust mine that's made my day that has I'm really excited now they've got roots so that's just they're gonna grow brilliant okay good we've got garlic well that's a great start that is a great start to the day at the plot I'm very excited about that because I was convinced that they wouldn't work I thought oh the ground is too wet it's too boggy ain't gonna grow but they are growing I'm gonna check the broad beans as well if these are not working I might sow them into some pots but I'm gonna have a look let's do it we've started so we might as well carry on and ruin everything look at baby broad beans those little things there that little thing over there depends how they're coming up probably they're sort of coming up I don't bloody know all right we'll leave those ones I think I don't want to destroy those ones they're not as easy to dig up as bulbs because bulbs you can kind of put them back but these were like seeds weren't they so I won't I won't disturb them we'll leave them alone but I don't know if I get them I get them and if I don't I don't I'm not too bothered and now these cabbages I'm gonna harvest one now because tonight for dinner I'm doing a coleslaw I'm gonna make coleslaw I'm gonna try and make coleslaw so I thought I'd harvest one right we're gonna go for the middle one very exciting feels like a good day at the plot today see I knew after a bad day I'd have a good one I'm really excited about this cabbage this is just fantastic and I'm only making a little bit coleslaw and there's only four of us in the family only two of us like cabbage so I don't need it to be massive I'm going to leave the other one all the way till Christmas and pick it on Christmas Eve for our Christmas dinner so this one is going to make a nice little coleslaw I think so that's good I'd like to grow more variety next year I think like three or four different varieties of cabbage because I like coleslaw and apparently if you use lots of different cabbages in coleslaw it tastes nicer and it's like a nicer richer taste so I'm going to give that a go next year but I'm really excited you can tell because I'm talking at 100 miles an hour right now which I try really hard not to do on camera because I know you can't understand me but I'm very excited right now I know that in one of my previous videos I kind of mentioned the fact that I want more space and I just want more and actually looking at the plot I don't think I've utilized the space of my plot as well as I could have my paths are very very big they could be smaller the beds could be bigger you can see the overview of my plot I don't think this space has been utilized as well as it could have been considering that I'm running out and I want more I think a lot of the beds could actually be made bigger definitely bigger and this path down the middle is fantastic but it's a little bit too big it's a small plot I'm not taking tons of stuff in the wheelbarrow all the time so it could definitely be made narrower and I've got the grass space at the back which is obviously going to be planted on and this space here perhaps could be utilized some kind of raised bed or something now that I'm seeing it in the autumn winter when nothing's growing I definitely think that I can just re-figure this space maybe even put some beds together don't know but I think I can make more space out of what I've got I've definitely not utilized all the space in my plot so feeling a little bit more positive about that actually
