It’s Jan. 21, 2023, the day before the New Year according to the lunar calendar and the start of the Year of the Rabbit.

We have a large Asian community in San Diego, and the 99 Ranch Market is the main place where my Chinese friends shop and hang out. I thought I’d go and see what's happening there. Well, it was very busy and a lot of fun checking out the exotic vegetables, sauces, tofu, etc. Chinese people love to cook and put a lot of effort into it. I like the bakery at the market. The cakes are incredible and so are the pastries.

I felt inspired and put my graphic arts skills to work, creating the bunny sign. You can tell it's made by a German grandma.

Just for the fun of it, I added the lion dance video that I took at last year’s Lunar Year festival (on Jan. 30, 2022) in City Heights. They don’t have a festival this year, and it's great to watch it again.

As we say goodbye to the Year of the Tiger and welcome the Year of the Rabbit, I hope it will bring everyone peace and happiness. Let’s do our part to make it happen!
