PUTTING GUTTERING ON THE SHED / EMMA'S ALLOTMENT DIARIES

Hi everyone, welcome to my allotment plot, my allotment diaries again. Dave's here today, it's not going there, it's going on the back of the shed. Just to fix my guttering up on the shed at long last because obviously it needed doing a long time ago. So it's going to go along the back of the shed if you please. Easy right? Kids are here today because they've got nowhere else to be. Thank you lockdown. The gradient has to be. So sent the kids off to get some water in their watering can, my watering can even, because we're going to try and see what kind of gradient we need for this guttering because obviously it has to be at an angle so that the water drips down. Yeah I've also got a pipe one Dave which I want to attach onto the side of it. The water's turned into ice, impossible. That defies the laws of physics. Is it solid? That is not possible. I'm so excited by a bit of ice. I used to be a child again eh? Mind you there's me getting excited by bits of wood so I can talk. It's not Russian, minus 40 come on. I got smashed with my bare boot. With your bare boot? Right just get a little bit in there. No you can't play with ice. You're a freak. Not in mother Russia, come on. Just dip this in a little bit, dip that bit in, obvious. Yes, sort of Ellie, sort of. Right you can play with the ice now and this has got ice, just don't impale each other with it okay. I don't know if it's possible to impale yourself with ice but if it is possible my kids will do it. So where there's a will there's a way. Just going to check someone else's shed to see where they've put their guttering. It's always a good idea to spy on your neighbours and see what they're up to. So this guy here, he's got a guttering on his shed. So I'm gonna have a look. It's built like a whole new roof. That's quite complicated. There's another one down here, hang on. This is more like what I'm thinking. Just at a slanted angle right, he started underneath it and then it goes onto this and then goes down. Okay cool, that's that's what I'm thinking. Oh no, hang on. Okay sorry. And then do the end one here. That's all you need really. No it's not. No, even if it hangs over like that and water comes up it's still not an issue. Do you want to put more in? Yeah I want you to put a couple more in just to make it a little bit more upright just so that I have a chance of keeping the water in. It's so cold here today, I know. Let me have a look. Oh yeah, they've come through a bit but I think it's all right. You can always screw something on the other end. I can use them as hooks or something. I'll find something, let's be honest. I am clever. You've got nails coming out from the other side. I can see one here, another one. What? What do you mean there's nails coming out there? It's fine, it's just a shed, it's fine. Right, just let's hold it up and see what happens. Yeah possibly, but can you hold it up a bit and let me see because I want it to drip down into the... You can have it underneath there because that's the end there, you just have it underneath there and just drip down, wouldn't it? Yeah but I want it to go into a... That's the plan anyway, I don't know if that's going to work but there we go. Right, I'm going to pour the water in now and see if it works. There goes the rain. Yes! And then look, we have water. This is fantastic, I could just put a bucket under that but we're going to make it more elaborate than that with this little pipe thing but that's the basic idea, that's the basic idea of guttering guys. Right, day two, we're back again. We've just got to finish the rest of the guttering so Dave's brought his drill thin with him and stuff so we're just going to finish the guttering today and hopefully finish this bloody video which is taking me ages. So, right okay, all I've got at the moment, I don't have a water butt so all I've got is this bin so that's going to have to do for water collection for now. It's not ideal but it is what it is so I'm going to sort that out and measure it up and stuff like that. Anyway, Dave wants to get going so I better get on with it, I think. All right. I don't know if it's all right yet but we'll see. The logistics of getting this angle right is a lot harder than I first thought. It's causing us a bit of a headache I think we're just going to whack it on and hope for the best but the angle's all wrong with this guttering because obviously it's just like recycled stuff that I found. So we're sort of thinking like that and then we're just going to whack it on and then pour some water in and see what happens. This is all very experimental. The problem is, is this is not going to stay. It's just completely pointless and this is somewhere I can tie that to there. I don't know if this is gonna come on. Oh it's doing it but we're missing it, we're missing the pot. Oh it's knocked itself now. This is taking a lot more time than we thought. This is way more complicated than I thought it would be. I thought we'd just whack a bit of guttering up but it's not it's not that at all. So at the moment this is the mechanism that we've created. So I don't know if this is going to do anything but now it's actually going into the bucket you see. That's all we need to do. Cut that. Here we go, down the shed, through here, through there. Yes, yes. Yeah that did a trick won't it? I'm sure yeah that'd be fine. That's perfect. No matter what what rain conditions we get, if it's heavy rain like this we get it. That's not heavy. No I don't have enough spin. Yes exciting. That was light rain. That's pretty cool right? I'm pretty happy with that. Right we've achieved what we set out to achieve today. Whether it's right or not we don't know. The point is is that I have something to collect water in. We might have to fiddle around with it.
