We take a quick trip around Hanoi visiting the infamous "Hanoi Hilton", and the future-famous, most incredible sandwich in the Hanoi Old Quarter!
Whoa.
What's up, P Nation?
We are in Hanoi.
And we just got out of the Chinese embassy
where we picked up our visas and our passports.
We are good to go for the next 10 years.
Yes!
Finally, this was a long process.
That's for a whole nother video.
It was so stressful.
Anyways.
So we've been cooped up in our hotel room
for the past four days because someone got food poisoning.
First time it's ever happened on our trip.
It's the last time and hopefully happens.
Yes.
Anyway, so we are back on the streets of Hanoi.
We're trying to go to the Hanoi Hilton
to see some deep, dark history about this country.
Okay, quick history lesson.
This is the French Indochina Palace
built for the governor that came from France
to rule over Indochina, but it now belongs to Vietnam.
Okay, so we just made it out of the government palace.
There is so much going on.
It is five o'clock on a Tuesday or Wednesday?
Tuesday.
I love all this traffic.
And I think I figured out why I like Vietnam.
It's because there's so much stuff going on
and they have such a cool street culture
where everyone just sits outside and relaxes.
So unlike other cities where you just go inside your house
and you be by yourself, here everyone's together.
There's always people out.
Very Times Square slash Manhattan feel.
I just love how the city pulses.
Just made it to the Hanoi Hilton,
which is what has been deemed by prisoner of war veterans
from the American slash Vietnam War.
And this is so eerie.
I just have like this sinking gut feeling.
Where prisoners were held after, during,
it's just, I don't know what to say right now.
It's a very creepy building.
They have it painted bright yellow,
but they've like let it go a little bit.
And we were walking by it and you know,
like most prisons have barbed wire strung up
to like keep prisoners in or people out.
They actually have shards of glass
shooting up from the sides of the walls.
So in the mid 1990s,
they actually demolished most of the prison.
Some of it became a museum
and like a place where you can rent out.
I don't know why you would do that.
And other parts of it,
they actually turned into apartment buildings.
So tonight we decided to splurge.
We're getting 50 Vietnamese dong banh mi instead of 25.
This is the first time we went to a banh mi place
that was like established.
It's not just a stall on the side of the road
with a little grandma making sandwiches.
And I am like really excited for these.
One has melted cheese on it.
We haven't had cheese a lot at all,
like during this whole trip,
but like melted on it, seriously.
We have an egg pate sandwich.
You cannot see it even though I tried.
Okay.
Zach and I have like fallen in love with pate.
That is not something that we get back home.
And on a sandwich, it's like sweet and salty
and good and tasty.
And like we usually put a lot on.
And this one is the beef mince
and it's got melted cheese on it.
I'm so excited.
Whoa.
We haven't had hamburger in a long time.
This tastes exactly like a cheeseburger on banh mi bread.
It's really good.
And it's like meatloaf, like I said.
All right, so the sandwiches were amazing.
I am so full now.
This was supposed to be kind of a food tour,
but I didn't know that they were gonna be so gigantic.
So, but anyways, today was amazing.
And I'm really excited for tomorrow
to explore the French Quarter.
Yeah.
Because it's where the old stuff goes.
Come on, try a sandwich.
