Hello everyone, welcome to my allotment diaries.
My name is Emma, these are my allocation diaries.
I haven't been to my plot for the last couple of days.
We've been cold for days.
Wave, I suppose you'd call it, from the air from the Arctic coming down over the UK
Which means we've had a little snow
But it's mostly the frost overnight.
been dropping to kind of minus one, minus two at night time
And it's just been really cold during the day and kind of impossible to do
I've been very busy and it's Easter and I've just enjoyed being home.
I did my shoulder and neck in a little bit.
I pulled them at night when I was sleeping and
So I just thought I'd take the opportunity to just rest over the
I hope you had a lovely
Today I'm going to be home and show you my garden.
I want to do some more garden updates this year.
Our garden last year was absolutely
full of rubble, garbage, an old shed, all sorts of things we found and so we
I spent pretty much the whole lockdown last year
Finally we have space to grow things but we don't have
We're kind of out of money because
So a lot of what I'm growing this year
It's from seeds and a lot of it's annuals and I thought I'd fill the garden
I'm going to be doing this year with as many annuals as I can.
I wanted to give you a seed update because last year I just kind of grew
I know a lot about the process of growing up.
People are emailing me saying how my seeds are
And asking questions about it so I thought I
I'm not an expert, I literally just hit them in and they're like,
That's pretty much what happens.
Sometimes they don't grow though.
I'm actually growing some rudbeckia in here and this is for my garden.
So rudbeckia is a beautiful yellow flower
I think it blooms later in the year, from June through October.
And you can see that I've got some coming up here so it's not doing too
Fingers crossed, more will come soon and then I'll prick them out.
And pop them on and they're gonna be for my backyard.
I put a poll on my Instagram asking do you think my
People were very optimistic and said
I really just think that they're dying
So what I've done in the module here is I've sown some more.
What I didn't know about porridge is that you don't have to
You can actually sow them in little clumps.
So each of these has three or four seeds in and
I'm just gonna literally pop them up as a clump and probably plant them out
I didn't realize you could do that with a
porridge, but they're very fiddly little seeds and that's probably what's
I put them on too early into these
They just died, they just didn't survive.
So there's something I didn't know about porridge.
Since then I've gone and brought a
These are excellent if you have a small space
outside and you're running out of room in your
This was £25 from Wilkinson's.
It doesn't take up that much space in my garden.
So it just sits here because we get quite a lot of sun here and it's out the
I've got a lot of seedlings growing in
which I'm really really excited about.
I'm keeping my voice down because they can probably hear me.
Here are my tomatoes.
Got the cherry tomatoes and the gardener's delight.
I've been knocking them right in here guys and they seem to be doing really really
Well, it gets really hot in this greenhouse and I get a lot of
condensation on the side so I know they're really
Next to them I have my nasturtiums.
This is going to go over my archway in the garden.
I'm not gonna pop these on I'm just
I'm going to plant them right out at the end of April.
Next to them I have my zinnias.
Last year I just scattered zinnia seeds in the ground and they grew fine but
This year I'm going to try and actually grow them.
I'm not sure if you can see them actually.
When they get a little bigger I'll pop them on
I think or maybe I'll let them grow here as long as possible.
I've never done it that way before.
I can be a little more selective with where I put the plants.
I don't just want to scatter seeds, I have sunflowers growing.
The easiest flower in the world to grow sunflowers.
They're quite happy.
infiltrated my greenhouse and ate a couple.
So to combat that what I've done is I've put
Look, he's got little eyes on.
I put some of this stuff in there which is like straw
I've done this. I've done this.
I've scattered that in all my seed pots
I've been potting on my cosmos here.
I'll bring one out because I think it's too sunny.
I put them in a pot and they're like...
They seem quite happy now in their own little pots.
Here I have my pumpkins.
As soon as I see roots coming out the
I'm going to put them on the bottom of these.
You can see the plants look really happy and healthy and they only have one
They're getting their real leaves in the
Sorry, the lighting is so bad here.
There you go, you can see them a little better there.
But they look really happy in there and really fine so I'm quite happy
I'm going to go down there with my little squash tray.
Flower in the back and then these are my cauliflowers and I
I managed to pick five of them and they're doing okay.
They're doing fine in their little pots.
There it is, there's my little cauliflower.
And they're doing a little bigger than mine but mine are fine.
I think they'll be okay, they look happy and then look guys I've got sweet corn.
I've never managed to grow this before, it always dies on me and
I'm having a little panic because I've done it in toilet rolls.
Instead of root trainers but look the roots are already starting to come out
I'm a little panicked, so I hope they make it guys.
Because look how many have sprouted, almost all of them which is amazing.
My little greenhouse here is just amazing, it's right by the
kitchen door so I can just come out and check on them
It gets a lot hotter in there than you do.
I think it will so actually all the seeds have been really happy in this really
cold weather so I'm really happy with it.
Here comes the train. I have my window box here now.
The only thing I've changed in this, the rosemary is really happy in
Here, actually, the only thing I've changed is that I
Stuffed a couple of strawberry plants in here
I think they'll be okay.
I've got some tulips coming up yet to bloom,
That's an old daffodil and I've also scattered
Some poppy seeds in here, some California poppy seeds and a couple of
They're just coming up there so hopefully come summer I'll have
Some California poppies should come up about there and be swinging in the
I'm just going to go to the bathroom and I'm just going to go to the bathroom and I'm just going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom and I'm going to go to the bathroom
I put the rest of my strawberries in a pot and put them here.
They don't look very healthy at the moment but I think the
The leaves in the middle are actually quite healthy
The plan for this area here because it's
Just outside the house is to turn it into more of a kitchen garden
So I want to grow edibles here basically.
It's a small space but I thought it would be a fun challenge.
and how useful it would be just to be right outside the back door.
I think I'll be surprised how much I can fit in here actually
So this wall here gets quite a lot of sun and I thought this would be
Great to put some trellis and have beans growing up here, runner.
Beans, French beans, green beans, all kinds of beans, as many as I can fit on there
And then maybe a little table and chairs here
And some shade loving things in pots along the fence so I'll be growing a lot
Vertically but yeah I think I think it's going to
I'm really excited to share that with you this year because this is going to be
It's a big project and I will be
documenting it as soon as we get around to starting it.
Yeah, so that's going to be that project.
This is how my garden looks at the moment, grass is looking a little worse for
All my daffodils have come out in little
Rows like little soldiers which is pretty funny
I just made this out of some bamboo
I put some sweet peas in it.
I've got a weed membrane down at the moment but I'll fill this
I think, with some kind of soft mulch,
Something Tommy can sit on and not be in the mud.
But also be quite comfortable as well and hopefully the sweet peas will grow
All over this teepee but if they don't I'll put some more climbing beans up
I want to make sure it's not a nasturtium.
Yeah, it's a pretty nice idea to do for
I think this little teepee.
It doesn't look too invasive, you know what I mean?
I think it still looks pretty nice so that's my little teepee for the kids.
This flower border here is my south facing flower border so it gets more sun.
I'm gonna make it bigger guys, I'm gonna cut into the grass a little more
And make it bigger because I want more plants there and
I'm thinking of a little more plants here because this is my shade loving side.
cutting out a little here and putting a bench or something.
This is actually my favorite flower bed, it's right at the back.
And I have this tree in which is an Acer tree which means we get so much
It blooms on it in the spring which is just really
I've got all my daffodils around and I've got
put in some box hedging, hopefully if I've done it
Right we'll get a really nice box hedge border
along there and then I have some dahlias which you can see are covered.
I got one here and one there which hopefully will
Grow up and not die and then I'm just thinking this whole bed is just gonna
The reason being because right next to
It's got our pallet seating area which
We made it last year, it needs a little repainting this year.
So here's our pallet seating and then
You sit here and you can see that flower bed.
Clematis here which hopefully is going to grow really
Well this year, it's a fall blooming one.
And I've got some lily of the valley in there and I'm going to have more pots
around here but yeah it's a really nice little bed to
You know what I mean, you don't watch flowers but
Anyway, over there our shed is going to go there.
We're just getting a small one so imagine a little shed there
and a barbecue area just behind it or just in front of it
And then we need to sort out this path and this is our next big challenge.
We need to take all this path out and do a nice,
We're thinking bricks or gravel or something easy but
Something that's quite natural just to take you through here.
Obviously still quite a lot of work to do on the garden but
I'm going to be documenting it more and more this year so
Subscribe to my channel if you want to see the changes in the garden and I
I really look forward to showing them all to you and I hope you
Did you enjoy this video today, just a little garden tour.
Any ideas you have for my garden, it's quite a small garden but I'm going
Fill it to the brim with as many flowers and plants as I do
I'm excited to show you the kitchen garden down there too.
So thank you guys for watching, I hope you
Enjoyed it, don't forget to subscribe, see you next time, bye.
