What's up P Nation? It is morning time and today is a day full of firsts.
We're going on our first really big hike up the Kangshan Mountain.
It is like a million stairs up to the top so hopefully we make it.
And then after that we're going to try stinky tofu which I'm not excited about.
I have a feeling that Zach isn't going to try it. I'll be the one trying it.
But still, a day full of firsts. Really excited.
And we're going to go up this mountain and come back down alive.
Made it to the trail. It is a World UNESCO Heritage Site which we did not know.
It was $35 to get in each. Not bad considering they have to maintain the trail.
We started at 12.37. It is now 2 o'clock.
And we don't even know if we're close to the top.
But we have been climbing steps this entire time.
So every time we've ever complained about climbing up 200, 300, 100 steps,
I take it all back. This is hard.
1,000, 2,000, 1 million steps later and we are here.
Not at the top but at least the flat part.
This is just really amazing. We are like submerged into nature.
We don't get this very often.
So having like two days back to back of just being out here.
It's just hard to get on vacation because a lot of vacation happens to go to a city.
You fly to that city, you take a train there.
So to get to nature is actually more expensive than if you just spent time in the city.
Right.
So here we go. I'm making the descent.
We have made it down the mountain. It is about 5.15 right now.
So that means we spent a good five hours almost going up, exploring, and then coming back down.
Man, the hike was super intense. We are back down the mountain to our hotel now.
We are going to take a shower, cool off, dry off, and then go to the...
Old town for some stinky tofu.
Because we told you we would and we are too tired but we are going to go do it anyways.
We are all showered. We are back to normal.
And now we are out on the look for stinky tofu which we have already found where it is.
Yes, we passed it a few times and every single time we go by it, Zach starts gagging.
I don't know if I can even film her eating this because...
He has to literally run away from that spot.
And we have passed it at least five times now and it hasn't gotten any better.
We are getting closer. I haven't even smelled it yet but I am just getting so queasy thinking about it.
And I am not even the one that is eating it.
I'm good. I'm good. Thank you.
So Leah just signed the Book of the Beast.
I guess. He was like, okay, thank you. Okay, thank you.
And everybody else had just written, okay, thank you.
But I guess it had a bunch of different cultures.
And all the locals were staring at her because she probably was not supposed to sign it.
No, we are cursed.
No, we are not. Oh my...
So we are here at the stand.
And I am very, very nervous.
Just because I know it's not going to be wonderful.
So the reason it's black is because it's made from dark soybeans.
And they fry it so much that it actually turns black.
Apparently there was this scholar who, after he graduated from the university,
he couldn't find a job so he started selling tofu.
And he had too much tofu so he put tofu in an earthen pot.
And he set it there for a few days and when he opened it up, it had fermented.
So really stinky tofu is just fermented tofu.
And I thought tofu was already fermented but I guess there's another level of fermentation
that you can get with tofu where it smells rancid.
And apparently it tastes pretty good too.
Trying to get all the things.
She put like chili sauce, peanuts, cilantro, chili paste, garlic on it.
The sauce definitely helps.
It doesn't have a strong tofu flavor.
But it kind of tastes like...
And please, no one get offended by this.
It kind of tastes like spit.
But the chilies are good.
Okay, now that we made it through that, Leah's taking us to a good spot for dinner.
Yes!
To reward herself.
So to share a tip with you on how we've been ordering food in China.
So we found that Apple Maps works way better than Google Maps.
And they have restaurants listed on Apple Maps all over the place.
So you just look at the restaurant on Apple Maps and then it'll have this website.
It's called Dianping.
And you just press open in Dianping and it'll show you.
It's kind of like the Yelp of China.
And you can go on, take a picture of the menu and then translate it in your phone.
And then circle stuff that you want.
So that when you get to the restaurant, you can just show them what you want to order.
Thank you!
Yes!
So, it's not a bad thing.
But I may have ordered us too much food.
What I'm most excited about are these dumplings.
This is like the sirloin noodles.
And it's got huge chunks of beef in there.
With lots of fat.
Which means it's going to be good.
That is beef flavor.
But it's like a Chinese beef flavor.
Zach and I keep on noticing this smell and it smells like China.
And there's like this one taste that smells like China.
And I don't know what spice it is.
It's like China beef.
So I'm trying the pork dumpling with red chili sauce.
Okay, back to the China thing.
Tastes like China.
But really good chili taste.
And this is definitely the best thing I've eaten while I've been here.
This is our 10th day in China.
This is amazing.
This is the sirloin beef with rice and veggies.
Super fatty.
Tastes like roast beef.
My mom's roast beef.
In China.
Wow.
Thank you!
I'm trying the sweet aspect of the food.
So it kind of tastes like apples.
And just like a really sugary tea broth almost.
I'm so full.
I haven't eaten that much in a long time.
Because this is the first time we actually finished everything.
Because it was so good.
I think it was the amount of salt they put in it.
There was so much flavor.
Normally it's super raw here.
It's really good.
Really good.
So now we're trying to find some dessert.
If we can even squeeze that in our tummies.
Oh we can.
Woah.
It's really really good.
You have a really full body.
Full fat.
Full everything.
They look like blackberries.
But they're really small.
And so they're not as crunchy as blackberries are.
Really good.
It was a great day.
The hike was amazing.
The views were awesome.
And the stinky tofu was unpleasant.
But we'll just look past that.
It was better than expected.
Dinner was the best we've ever had in China.
It was a great day.
So it started raining a little bit.
And we only had one rain jacket.
That's mine.
But.
Zach is currently in it.
Just lying.
Her jacket is a rain jacket.
I'm not telling you.
