Seeing Planet 9 with Microwave Telescopes

Did you know current generation Cosmic Microwave Background experiments can detect Planet 9, if it exists? Read Naess et al 2021: A search for Planet 9! https://arxiv.org/abs/2104.10264 The Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) team eliminated ~17% and 9% of the parameter space for a 5 & 10 Earth-mass Planet 9 respectively. They also determined the 10 most promising candidates from the search for possible follow-up. Since it is planet-warmth and not reflected sunlight that
ACT looks for, the sensitivity goes down as distance squared, not distance to power 4 as it does for optical telescopes. ACT can exclude around 10-20% of the expected Planet 9 parameter space. With new data from ACT and the upcoming Simons Observatory (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZMwEJ34oC9q0LoHI9c6g2Q) we’ll get more sensitive and can look deeper, for this and other Solar System objects.
