Growing Healthy, Organic Food for the Community with Good Neighbor Gardens
Meet Mia Vaughnes, a mother on a mission to turn ordinary neighborhoods into communities with gardens full of healthy food to share with neighbors. In 2013, Mia founded "Good Neighbor Gardens". The program strives for everyone to have access to healthy and affordable food. Mia and her crew work with teachers, parents, and school administrators to grow school gardens and produce organic, local food. She also farms front yards in her community. Any extra harvest is distributed to the neighbors in the city. And a portion of the proceeds go to garden education and school farm maintenance. So far, they have installed 120 food gardens and started garden education programs at seven elementary schools. Her community is teaching the next generation how to be healthy and live sustainably. Together they are healing the land and their bodies and building a more resilient, conscious, and sustainable community! Share this video if you think everyone deserves fresh, healthy food!
