We're here with another video today.
I'm outside of Audi Niagara.
I'm here to meet my buddy Nelson Mason who is an RS specialist here at Audi Niagara.
He's going to show us the RS7.
I'm super pumped, super fast car, almost 600 horsepower, performance, luxury, technology.
He's going to go through it all.
I can't wait to check it out.
It's my pleasure to introduce Nelson Mason.
He is the Audi sports specialist here at Audi Niagara, former race car driver.
He's going to tell us all about this car.
We're going to go for a drive.
He's going to show us how it drives.
Welcome to the channel, Nelson.
Good to have you here.
Thanks, Chris.
Happy to be here.
Hey, everybody.
I guess my pedigree has helped me become the Audi sports specialist here, so we'll run
through what exactly that is.
Hey, guys.
Okay, so this here is the 2021 Audi RS7.
Brand new, just landed in North America about two months ago.
We've been fortunate to receive a few.
This one here, pretty much fully loaded model, starting price is $148,000.
As you can see, it's a serious, serious performance sedan.
So what we have up front, we have all of our safety technology, as well as all of our performance
technology.
So from the massive, massive brake ducts, which we'll get into, we have what's called
matrix LED headlights, which are a specialty headlight that Audi has developed, which we
can talk about later.
These here are full radar and sonar sensors.
That gives us our radar cruise control, gives us our emergency braking, also gives something
called intersection assist, where it can actually see through an intersection, see if a car
is running a red light and stop you.
Up front, this is where the main airflow goes.
So we suck in air all through here for our intercooler and our massive V8 turbo.
As we come around, we see the sculpted hood.
We need aerodynamics for a car that's this quick.
We need it to stay pinned to the ground.
All right, guys, now we're coming down the side profile of the RS7.
So first thing we see are our mammoth wheels, 22-inch wheels, basically as standard.
You can get a 21-inch, but that would really be for like a snow tire or something like
that.
So 22-inch, the reason for it, not just aesthetics, but we have a 17-inch front brake disc, massive,
massive front brakes, huge, huge calipers, as we see, massively multi-piston calipers.
And that really lends to hunkering down the car.
It travels at up to 200 miles an hour, so we need to slow it down as well.
We have huge, huge fender flares.
That's just to get the width out of the car for a wider track.
And then, of course, we bring down the side profile.
So very, very aggressive car.
This here has the black optics package.
You can have the carbon optics package, which would then lend to carbon fiber mirrors, carbon
fiber front end.
But here we are, and we still have the glimpse of the matrix LED headlights.
Just to explain those a little bit, so Audi's developed a headlight where it's built into
a matrix pattern.
It can stay as a permanent high beam when you're driving, and then it can block out
the shape of anything oncoming, be it a car or be it a stop sign, something like that.
It can block that shape out of the matrix so that you only see high beams and nobody
else sees high beams coming at them.
So very, very cool design, very, very tricky.
Coming down the side profile, we have our aggressive side skirts just to help with the
aerodynamics and keep the car sucked down.
And then we come to our rear end, and we'll get to the exhaust as well.
Here we come to the rear of the RS7.
So super, super nice back here, super sculpted.
So as we see, we have a massive, massive diffuser that's pulling out the air from underneath
the car.
We have our major, major single sequence light, which is really, really cool.
But the big thing that kind of denotes the RS7 and denotes all the Audi Sport RS cars
are these massive oval exhausts.
So you see those, you know it's an RS, you know that it's pretty serious.
That's something that Audi Sport's done as a whole through their whole lineup.
But the cool thing with the RS7 is really its performance and practicality.
So as we pop the rear open here, it is a hatch, and the amount of cargo room that we have
is pretty incredible, to be honest.
We have our sun visor that can pop up, block everything out, all tonneau cover, all very
privacy.
But really we just have a bunch of space coming from this super, super aggressive rear styling
of the RS7.
So here we are at the business end of the Audi RS7, four litre twin turbo V8.
We can see our twin turbos coming into the engine here.
This monster on paper produces 591 horsepower.
The cool thing is it produces 590 pound feet of torque.
That's really the important number.
Horsepower numbers are raising as we get into modern time.
The torque is really what gets the car off the line.
That's why this thing realistically accelerates like a rocket ship.
Massive massive torque, basically a flat torque curve as well.
So you have torque throughout the rev range.
But here we are.
This four litre V8 has a massive growl.
It's super cool that it's twin turbo.
There's basically no turbo lag, which is what is also so cool about it.
This is feeding the quattro system, so a quattro all wheel drive system, which puts the power
down and it gets you out of a dig in a massive, massively quick amount of time, 0-60 in less
than three and a half seconds.
So this thing, for the size of the car that it is, is just a massive performance beast.
So the power plant is absolutely insane.
I can't wait to try it on the road.
But before we do that, you got to show me the interior.
Get ready for some tech.
All right.
So here we are on the interior of the RS7.
Now a lot of things that you'll notice, first things first, we have an Alcantara suede steering
wheel.
So like in my Formula 2 car, I had an Alcantara suede steering wheel.
They bring that over from the motorsport side.
As we have the buttons on the steering wheel, we have some cool things like RS mode, which
is basically where we can hop to performance or not performance.
But up in front of us, we have a massive virtual cockpit.
So Audi's notorious for having their virtual cockpit display, which gives us everything
that we need right at the front.
Our revs, our performance, our lap time, whatever we need, whatever you need that day.
When we come into our central multimedia interface, the Audi MMI, that's where we control everything
technology wise.
So our radio, our navigation, everything like that.
It's really, really nicely laid out.
It's very much just like a phone.
We would have our wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto there as well.
And then as we come down to our lower screen, this would be our climate controls.
So we have our massage seating, climate control.
Do we want to add some fragrance to our air conditioning?
You can do all of that right from here.
Heated seats, cooled seats.
We can lift up the spoiler on the rear, whatever we want to do.
And then up top, we have our heads up display.
And something cool that we'll show you is a full upgraded Bang & Olufsen sound system.
Here we have the Audi Sport RS seats.
So these seats are massively, massively contoured.
They hold you in really, really nicely.
Obviously, we have the super red, the express red stitching, which goes well with our tango
red exterior.
Hexagonal stitching all the way through just to give you that little bit more comfort.
Hold you in a little bit more for those crazy corners or crazy accelerations.
RS interior package, so we get the specialty carpet mats.
We get stitching all the way through to our Alcantara shifter.
Here, we still have all of our aluminum buttons for our multiple cameras, driver assistance
packages, everything there.
Red start button because it's an RS model.
As we come across, that aluminum carries through to our memory seat selection, to our door
handles which are soft close, power, and open, and all of our switches on the side.
So everything laid out really so that the driver is in massive control and able to just
focus on the driving.
Everything else comes very easy.
This is my first time in the back, and there's a surprisingly large amount of room for this
sports back.
You can see how Nelson was sitting, and I have a lot of leg room.
I do like the red stitching on the seats, and then we have the screen for our digital
temperature control.
So I have a heated seat, and I can adjust my temperature manually down below.
And then there's two USB-Cs as well to charge my phone.
At nighttime, all this is illuminated, but my attention goes right to this suede roof.
The whole roof is suede.
Really adds to the luxury look.
And then I can pop this down.
There's a little bit of storage for my cell phone.
And then look at that.
The cup holders open up for my Timmy's.
So there's a lot going on here.
There's three screens.
Tell us a bit about that MMI technology.
Yeah, we can run through this.
We've got the MMI, the virtual cockpit, and something I want you to look out for is just
our tweeters in the corner for our upgraded Bang & Olufsen sound system.
As we start the car, they raise nicely out of the dash for us.
Car welcomes us in, and here we go.
So here we can roll through the Audi MMI.
So this central screen here is where we can control our navigation, our phone, radio,
Bluetooth, wireless CarPlay, whatever.
The cool thing and the thing that we're focused on with the RS is we can pop straight to vehicle.
And this is where we can really control how the vehicle is performing.
Customize everything.
Customize everything and see like, okay, like here are our temperatures, here's our G-forces,
our tire pressures, what have you.
The cool thing is we go to drive select and we can control our air suspension and the
performance of the car.
It's wild.
So it's cool.
It gives you a lot of settings.
The nice thing is it's very, very easy to use these settings.
And then we can pop over to nav.
I know you like this screen.
So this is all Google Earth, which is giving us a live satellite feed of, or sorry, a satellite
feed of our surroundings and everything else.
Live traffic updates, live map updates, et cetera.
Yeah.
Show me that dual screen.
So you have this lower screen for your climate control, but when you're using the nav, you
can just scroll in your destination and hand write it in without having to punch it in
fully.
Exactly.
So like if we were to search for a destination, it pulls up our second screen down here.
So we can either type it in and select the keyboard here, or we can say, you know, we
want to go to Toronto.
So we just write it in.
You can write it on one spot.
You can write it across and it brings up Toronto.
If we were to search a destination that it can't find, we can then just search it on
Google and it'll search it on google.ca rather than through the Audi nav system.
So really cool.
But you brought up the good point, our full climate control.
If we add the massage seats, this car doesn't have it, but if we had the massage seats in
the RS7 as the option, then we just select the seat here and we can control everything.
We can control the 15 different massage options that we have.
But cool thing, we can go to this little three dots.
We've got heated steering wheel on, which we don't need on.
We've got our fragrance, which is our perfume.
How are you feeling today?
What?
What fragrance would you like?
Keep me fresh for the office, eh?
Summer.
Let's go summer medium.
Yeah.
Okay.
So we'll go summer medium.
Now we get a nice little fragrance through the car.
You don't need the air freshener.
Oh, I can smell it.
No polarizing required.
But yeah, so we have all of our climate control, AC, everything, heated and cooled seats up
front here.
But as we come up top, we can control how we want our heads up display to look.
We can control, this would be for our garage door.
It would automatically come up the moment we pull into our driveway, it's GPS based.
And then we have our rear spoiler.
So now the rear spoiler has gone up.
Just little controls to keep the driver fully in tune.
So it has everything you need.
I would probably never use these tools, but for everybody watching, Apple CarPlay, Android
Auto, it's obviously that it connects to both for those who like those apps.
Yeah.
The cool thing is, so like with CarPlay, it would be wireless.
So once you have your phone hooked up, then this just turns into your iPhone.
Android Auto, the same, but Android Auto still requires a cord at this point.
But just cool, it gives you a lot.
The nice thing is it's easy to use.
So even if we wanted to pull up our parking aids, we want to see how we're parked, okay,
there's our car.
I know it's not gray, but anyway, we can see, yeah, we're parked, we're clear, we're good
to go.
Whatever we want to look at, we've got it there.
Then we kind of transition over to our virtual cockpit, and that's really the controls that
we want for what we can be using on the day-to-day while we're driving.
And watch how it handles.
Like, you'll have grip for days.
Yeah.
Yeah, you can tell I'm taking this a little cautious, but...
Yeah, no, you can just go for it.
Yeah.
Oh, damn.
It is sick.
Just as I was kind of just watching it there.
How's that work, eh?
Yeah.
And it rides nice.
That's the thing with it.
Like, it's still a luxury car.
Yeah, I didn't even know I was sitting in 165 there.
But watch, I'll show you something.
So we're in RS mode, which is like a race mode.
So even though, like, the suspension's at its stiffest, we can switch to comfort.
Everything's going to really quiet down, and you can feel just how much softer everything
goes.
Full gas.
Launch mode activated.
Go.
Damn, son.
Holy hell.
Oh, that was definitely my favorite launch that I've had so far.
That is intense.
Yeah.
Yeah, let's try that launch one more time, bro.
I gotta try it again.
Full gas.
Oh, my God.
Launch control program.
Go.
Damn.
3.6.
Holy...
With four people in the car.
3.6 seconds.
Wow.
That was insane.
So that launch was insane.
Like, talk about just your everyday driving life.
Like, if someone were to buy this car, how would they feel driving it from day to day,
going to work, picking up the kids, if they have kids, things like that.
Like, what can you tell us about that?
Well, this is what's so nice about the car is that, really, as I said earlier, like,
it is kind of a split personality.
So it really does work for you.
Like, right now, yes, it's loud, and it's in charge, and it's giving you that full force
of all the performance that it can output.
But we can slow things down, and, you know, you can live with the car day to day.
And even if you don't wanna just put it in comfort mode, if we switch to just our individual
mode, we can change our drive to balance.
We can make our suspension comfortable.
We can, you know, keep the steering.
Maybe we like the steering stiff.
So we keep the steering in sport.
And then, you know, we don't wanna wake the neighbors, so we go from our engine sound
of present, which we've got right now, to quiet.
We still have things like, we still have the four-wheel steering, which will activate just
as nicely.
We still have our quattro with sport differential, which can transfer a huge amount of power
just to the rear wheels to really make the car handle.
But we can make it more comfortable and more suitable for our day to day as well.
So the car has such a vast ability to perform however you want it to, and a vast ability
of, let's say, customizability.
So it really just makes it super easy for the day to day, and that's what's so luxurious
about it.
The car can be relaxed.
The car can be, you know, we'll go to comfort, everything kind of transitions over.
And then it's all nice, it's soft.
The car's super, super quiet, and the ride quality is really just unbelievable for a
car of this stature.
But I'll show you.
I mean, even if you don't want the, you know, your digital display to be like the RS mode
display, we can come through to our settings, we can go to our display here, and we can
actually change how we want it to look.
So maybe we just want it to look like standard.
Oh, right there, yeah.
Traditional.
Two dials, yeah.
Nice and easy, and away we go.
So that was phenomenal, brother.
Thanks so much for showing us that RS7.
