Steven Bencarz Response: Is Meditation Dangerous?

Steven Bencarz recently made a controversial video stating that meditation is dangerous. Here, I want to add my view: there are in fact big issues with meditation. People who teach it and lead classes are deeply unhappy. The true work involves seeing things differently. It is a 1.2-billion-dollar industry. 40% of Americans practice it. The problem is that marketers are now involved. They glorify it to the point where it has become a new secular religion. The biggest thing it promises is that it will reduce stress. Firstly, some people do not do it properly. This is an issue in itself (causes frustration). But, for some, it does reduce stress. But only temporarily! And this is the problem. When stress returns, we blame ourselves for being defective. The reason stress returns is that meditation does not address the CAUSE of stress. Meditation is a fantastic tool to bring you to the point of being open to doing inner work. It relaxes the nervous system which has been overwhelmed with stress. But once we are calm and relaxed, there is still work to do. We must address the cause.
