The Fed is the name of a vital American institution, especially for those interested in finance and investment. The policies of the Fed have a significant role and direct impact on the global economy. So what is the nature of the Fed, and how does it affect the economy?
The Federal Reserve System (Fed), or the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States, is the central bank of the United States. It started operating in 1913 under the "Federal Reserve Act" of the United States Congress, passed on December 23, 1913.
The Nature of the Fed:
- This agency is entirely independent, not dependent on, and not affected by the US government.
- The Fed is also where the world's most significant money and gold concentration is. The New York City Bank of the US Federal Reserve currently holds 25% of international gold reserves, most of which is global gold deposits.
Functions and duties of the Fed:
- Create top jobs for the people in the whole Federation
- Maintain stable prices
- Ensure long-term interest rates at a reasonable level.
Today, the Fed also has new roles, such as:
- Supervising and regulating banks to ensure a stable financial system and protect the interests of consumers.
- Adjust monetary policy to support and implement the three leading roles above.
- Find and promptly prevent financial risks that may directly affect the economy.
- Provide financial services to the US government and domestic and foreign organizations.
- Research the economy and publish publications to provide financial knowledge.
