Good morning from Carpathian. Before we leave this morning we decided to go for a walk around the
area and we found some spring water. That is so cold. You can see how cold it is. Oh it smells.
It smells. Smells like hot. That is crazy. That is a proper mineral water. It tastes
like it's gassinated. The owners of the guest house where we were staying
super friendly. They're like a massive family and they've been telling us that during the Soviet
time there wasn't any sodas in shops, any sprites or anything like that. So they would come here
and get this water and mix it with some jam and shake it together and they said they just grew
up on it. And I would imagine that would taste much better than anything from the shop to be
least you know like it's all natural and stuff.
So
foreign
Maybe I'll make you some coffee.
No, thank you.
Maybe you'll eat? I'm hungry.
Thank you.
We're just walking.
We have to leave soon.
How do you know Russian?
Russian?
My wife taught me.
Is she your wife?
Yes, she's my wife.
I'll make you some bread.
No, thank you.
And coffee?
Coffee?
No, thank you.
How are you?
I'm fine.
Thank you.
There was a factory here.
In Novosibirsk.
As a branch.
And here...
Good afternoon.
The workers were taught here.
They were taken and sent
by plane to Novosibirsk.
To the factory.
And there they were taught
how to do it.
Here they made condensers
for the military industry.
I went to school a long time ago.
A Pole got lost
in some car.
I don't know.
I'm from the city.
I got lost there.
So many police.
KGB.
They left the car.
It was a Volvo.
Our car was stolen.
It was a Russian car.
It looked like a Russian car.
Everybody looked at it.
There were 220 of them.
They took the kids
on excursions.
And what was there?
The first car got lost.
There was no navigation.
Of course.
We left Chernivtsi.
There is the border of Chernivtsi region.
From Romania.
Are you a vegetarian?
No, I'm not.
Don't be afraid.
You need to eat.
Thank you.
I'll give you some bread.
And pickles.
Give me a bowl.
I'll bring you some bread.
Don't be afraid.
We are people.
You need to eat.
Thank you very much.
All your food.
We came to eat
all your food.
Eat.
It was very tasty.
Take care.
Come again.
Mind yourself.
The granddaughter led us to another spring
to get some more water.
A different one this time.
I don't know, moments like that
I just like the best thing about traveling
when someone's kind enough to just see you walking in the street
and obviously realize that we don't know where we're going
and invite you into their home.
Feed you, which was just
incredible.
And we get to speak to them, learn about their life,
how people live.
Practice our Ukrainian.
It's so amazing.
We're a bit speechless.
We're a bit speechless right now.
Yeah, it's strange.
You almost feel guilty
eating someone else's food, walking into their home
and eating their food.
It's a completely different mentality.
People really enjoy
looking after you.
They don't do it for money.
There is no motive behind it yet.
They just
want you to be welcomed.
And she kept saying
that
we know,
we've been through hunger.
We worked in a different country
and we know how it is.
We don't want you to go hungry.
She eats well, she kept saying
eat well, eat well.
We were like, thank you so much, that's enough.
They brought out more, they brought out potatoes
and their homemade milk
that just came out of the cow.
Oh, homemade milk.
Milk straight from the cow.
It's just so sweet.
Everything is homemade,
natural products.
You can taste it, it's all fresh.
Jesus, that was the tastiest tomato
in my entire life.
You almost
forget sometimes, don't you?
How tasty some vegetables can be.
Usually in England
when you bite into a tomato, it's like
water, isn't it?
Rock solid.
Incredible.
Such amazing people. They only made us promise
that we'd come back.
Okay.
Let's head back to the car.
You know what this reminds me of?
Do you know that spot
when Shrek gets to the castle
with a donkey
near this bridge? It looks like this.
It just reminds me of that.
It bounces like it too. I hope it doesn't fall on that one bit.
At least there is no lava.
True.
So we just left the guest house and it was literally
like saying goodbye to your family.
They are so amazing, they keep saying
come back again, come back for Christmas
because they have a lot of holidays
around here, they have a lot of holidays.
Lots of celebrations
and they celebrate everything
I'd say
in a traditional way.
Which is really interesting
so we would definitely love to come back here.
You said about Christmas, everyone closes their doors,
everyone goes out on the street and the kids all play together.
It's like a big community
celebration in Kwasi.
Just amazing.
Definitely love to experience that.
They're saying that in the autumn
which I adore autumn
it's so gorgeous
that you see all the different colours, like all the trees
are nice and evergreen
but in the autumn you can imagine
what colours they turn.
I adore autumn.
They've given us their own
homemade jam.
It's made out of
marrow, it's like zucchini
and they added some lemon
and orange to that
as well. It's so sweet.
We were almost like, should we just go back?
Should we just move in?
Yeah, should we just text the people and tell them
we're not giving the car back, sorry.
Someone said please don't
steal our car.
Well, we weren't planning
but things happen.
So we've driven south
out of Rakiv and we're
heading along the border at the moment with Romania
towards a town called Hust
and literally this side
of the hill that you can see over there, there's a river
just here, is Romania so we're literally
right on the border at the moment.
Please come in.
Nice.
So we just had a wash and we waited for it to cool down a bit
because it was blooming hot today
and now let's go for a quick walk around Hust.
