Hello from Sidey, Turkey. After the fun we had in Istanbul filming our food video
we thought why not do another one when we're down here. So we want to show you
the best foods for you to try on your next holiday to Turkey. Sidey is a holiday resort near Antalya
and we're here in April so obviously it's not a season and because of the corona everything is
shut so we're going to do our best to try all the foods that we want to show you but some of them
we're going to pick up from a supermarket so no judging going on that but you'll obviously find
them in the restaurants or cafes wherever nice place you'll find. And we're going to kick off
the day with a traditional Turkish breakfast. We were just told that all the food in this breakfast
is organic, they grow everything themselves, pick it and cook it or pickle it. Amazing!
Here we've got Turkish breakfast for two. Let's work across this way. A giant pot of Turkish tea,
some güzleme which is stuffed flatbread, some fried dough, this is a fig jam, butter, olives,
dried fruit, I think it's apricot and raisins, some apricots, same on this side as well, potatoes,
two different kind of potatoes, this one's fried and this one's I don't know, eggs,
some fresh tomatoes and chili pepper, cheese, another kind of olives, another kind of cheese
here, some mixed salad, it's just a red cabbage and carrot, that's the word I'm looking for,
some honey and fresh herbs and tomatoes as well. This all looks incredibly delicious and it smells
even better so let's tuck in. That is pumpkin, let's try this.
So this is pumpkin and this is apricot, I lied. That was amazing, we're both absolutely stuffed
but we've got an eight kilometre walk to get back to Cide so I think I'm gonna burn it back
off again, hopefully, probably not, see you there. Oh I'm feeling hungry again. Me too.
Have you heard about these things in Turkey? Apparently they're really good here, they're
called kebabs, kebabs? Oh yeah I have heard about them. So we're on the way to the restaurant called
to try two different kebabs. I wanted to mention the Turkish beer Efes which is now
definitely one of our favourites, it's malty but it's also light and refreshing.
In most restaurants you will get this bread as a free starter with some dips and salad.
The dips you get usually vary from place to place. It's our favourite part of going out for a meal in
Turkey. And this is what we ordered, Adana kebab, beti kebab and lamajun. Adana kebab is a seasoned
and spiced mince lamb meat with some onion and parsley on the side, tomato, chilli pepper and
bulgur wheat. Beti kebab is a lamb meat wrapped in lavash then covered in tomato sauce with pistachios
sprinkled over top. It's served with bulgur wheat, tomatoes, chilli pepper and yogurt on the side.
Lamajun is a thin dough topped with minced meat, minced vegetables including onion, tomatoes,
pepper and garlic, herbs and spices. At the end we grabbed some Turkish tea and apple tea. To be
honest we completely forgot how tasty the apple tea was, it's so sweet with a strong flavour and smell
and it's almost like a dessert. The food was incredible, it was so delicious and obviously
the meat was just falling apart and it was so nicely spiced and not over salty at all
and I just have no words. The salad was so fresh and what you didn't see was there was pomegranate
juice in there and olive oil as well and just everything just just blends together.
And do you know what? Lamajun was the biggest surprise for me because I don't know I just kind
of overlooked it and I thought you know it's not gonna be anything special but it was just
out of this world. The flavour is so gentle and it's not overly strong and again everything just
blends in together wonderfully and just nicely spiced isn't it and the meat is just just beautiful
like it's just really you can taste it's good meat on there and how crunchy it is and try it with
butter oh my god you're just honestly the best thing like I tried it with all dips and it's
beautiful but butter different kind of level just because again the butter is just so good isn't it
it's just such it's just nice fresh butter isn't it as opposed to not bad quality stuff which is
everything's fresh and that's that's the main thing that's the best thing yeah that was awesome
so if you're in Cide that place is definitely probably our number one
restaurant recommendation Yumut and we'll put the details of it down below
We actually went to Yumut the first night we arrived to Cide and we just wanted to share
this meal with you because we think it's pretty unique. So as you saw we got bread and dips at
the beginning of our meal and something pretty special we got prawn and squid casserole. I've
never tasted anything like that in my life so it's really hard to compare it to something
the flavor is so gentle and you can see all the vegetables in there onions and peppers
also they were not shy at all with their prawns and squid. The flavor itself is really buttery
it goes perfect to be honest with the chips and the rice also the squid was falling apart
slippery little buggers. Our bellies are taking us towards the old town
so hot so we're gonna grab some pomegranate juice
you can find people selling pomegranate or orange juice literally in every corner in Turkey
but we struggled to find it over here right now and we definitely got ripped off a special tourist
price so let's enjoy it because they press the juice so they don't like deseed the pomegranate
they press the juice out of the whole fruit that's why it's a bit tangy so it's very sweet
I don't know if you're familiar with the pomegranate flavor the pomegranate juice funny
enough tastes like pomegranate it's a bit tangy because you got all the skin in there but it's
very refreshing very sweet slightly sour and it's just beautiful in this hot weather
so our hungry bellies took us into the old town and our hungry bellies have taken us back out the
old town. There are lots of restaurants there but only few that are open and we are looking for
something specific so they didn't have it and the restaurants were way out about five
weeks anyway so we're heading back from where we came from and we finally managed to find something
as you already know we got the bread with dips and salad before our meal
we ordered cheese pide which basically like a pizza cheesy pizza and bean soup which we're
incredibly excited to try so i think turkish pide usually is with meat and there's not usually
cheese on there well we had that one in istanbul it was really good but this time we just really
fancy trying the cheesy option the pide was delicious the dough itself was really good
and the cheese on top tasted like a combination between mozzarella and cheddar
so next up was the kuru fasulye or bean soup basically they were like oily baked beans
if you like baked beans you'll love it and i like baked beans the man serving us was really
keen on us trying this dessert and to be fair we didn't need much convincing it's pumpkin cooked
with honey and colored in tahini and some nuts on top very very rich and hard to explain how yummy
okay we're home this is actually a couple of days after the last time we spoke to you on this video
we've got something called chig kofte which actually you can find everywhere in turkey
and there's as many chig kofte shops it seems as kebab shops they're incredibly popular basically
what they used to be was a raw meat kofte chig i think means raw so raw kofte that got outlawed
years ago because there was too many people falling ill how we read and it's now basically
like a vegetarian almost a vegan kofte and they look incredible this one's from the supermarket
but let's give it a try we also got some toast and bread to go with it and what are the sauces
so this is a spicy sauce and this possibly pomegranate sauce yeah nice this bread by the
way is amazing it's called baslama we think it is really really nice we've toasted it as well so it's
like nice and hot let's try it i have no idea what to expect to be honest i think i'm gonna go for a
bit spicy little bit of pomegranate cheers
nice yeah it's so much better than i expected
both of us to be honest weren't sure what to expect of this at all but it's really really
nice do you know what on that note the texture is really similar to like minced meat isn't it
so it's like really similar if you ever had a kofte kebab which is the minced meat kebab it's
really really similar like you've got that that like say grain texture that sort of falls apart
in your mouth with the spices you wouldn't really know it was it wasn't me would you no no it's
actually surprisingly delicious you can definitely see some milled grain in there which i'm guessing
and like tomato paste you can taste and garlic onions i think pepper and loads of different
spices it's just delicious it's absolutely amazing with the spicy sauce and then the
sweetness of the pomegranate as well on top of the bread genius idea
that video is so much fun to film we've only scratched the surface of turkish cuisine because
there is so much and it is so incredible we've also got another video from istanbul all about
the best street food there so if you haven't seen that check that out we'll stick it below this
video somewhere and obviously guys as we mentioned previously we work with what we can in terms of
restrictions and everything that's going on in this particular part of turkey but hopefully we
managed to you know fulfill and cover what we planned and anyway hopefully you enjoyed watching
this video found it helpful and thanks for watching please give this video a like and
subscribe if you haven't already and see you in the next one
