RFI Means Request For Inspection. It is a form submitted by contractor to consultant or Client for inspection of construction activity.
Request for Inspection in Construction is a mandatory process to be followed while executing Civil Engineering construction projects in Govt. Department like NHAI, PWD, other departments and Private Projects. The procedure of RFI is explained in the video given below with sample format. The procedure is as follows for RFI submission: The contractor submits a request for inspection after he finds an unsatisfactory condition during execution of the work. The owner of the building or premises issues an order to the contractor to rectify the unsatisfactory conditions.  The Contractor complies with the order and if satisfied then it is called "rectified report". Request for Inspection in Construction is a compulsory document issued by the engineer/supervisor of the project to verify that the contractor has completed the agreed tasks and he has finished all or some portion of the work, so far done. It is compulsory to issue RFIs at regular intervals and if issued at right time, it can help in saving time, cost and loss of material.
The Inspection Request Report is important to approve before going to the next work. If consultant doesn't approve the RFI & write some remarks on it then contractor has to rectify/ clarify the points. After rectifying contractor again asks consultant for inspection. Then consultant checks the work & approve it if he is satisfied. The consultant closes the RFI after approval. The RFI is also considered for billing purpose also.
First we have to get approval from the client/consultant then we proceed to the next work. If you are a contractor then you must know that how we write that RFI which we all discuss in this video.
