Day 3 on Oahu, Hawaii was spent in Honolulu hiking Diamond Head, laying out at Waikiki Beach, and stuffing our faces with lots of Hawaiian foods, like poke, shave ice, and malasadas! We left the day very happy and VERY full!

Day three on Oahu and we are starting the morning with sunrise at
Laniakea beach which is where we were yesterday and we saw the sea turtles
no turtles yet but maybe they'll come out and say hi before we leave
we're early birds we're here for sunrise we normally get up at 4 a.m
the benefits of that is sunset there's always a bunch of people
sunrise there's one lady over there with her
little kid so we're lucky it's very quiet it's quiet and relaxing so
so we have a big day planned with daylight savings we're trying to take
advantage of as much sunlight as we can possibly get
the sun sets really early so we're gonna go do some fun things after this
including coffee hiking beaches i'm gonna try a food i never thought i
would try so stay tuned
And now it's time for breakfast. Blueberries, strawberries,
and then we got, it comes with banana, coconut, honey on the top.
I added strawberries to mine, Adam added strawberries and blueberries to his.
I'm very very excited.
We're at Brew and Foam and I got a coconut macadamia nut latte with
coconut whipped cream and it is unbelievable.
It is delicious. It's very messy. I spilled it everywhere,
but the whipped cream is very good and the little bit I've actually tasted of
the drink is very good as well. I highly recommend
this place if you're on the North Shore.
Alright, we're at Diamond Head National Monument.
This is one of my favorite things in Hawaii. It's a
300,000 year old crater just outside of Honolulu
and there's a military base built onto it,
well a trail that they built up to the top with a fire control system.
The sign said it was an engineering marvel of its time, so
we're about to climb up to the top. It's about 560 feet
and should be a lot of fun. I know it's gonna be a lot of fun.
So we got here a little bit later than we would have normally liked to and it's
very busy. You can see all the people at the top, so we're gonna hustle.
Oh no, I'm gonna run into people and hopefully get some good views.
Almost to the top and the views are insane.
Alright, we just made it down to the bottom. Compared to our
hikes we normally do in Washington, it's pretty quick, pretty easy.
There are a lot of stairs and there is an incline obviously because you're
going to the top of a crater, so if you're not used to hiking it might
be a little hard. Heat might get you too. Yeah, it's pretty hot, so bring some
water. You're exposed the entire time to the sun.
But it was beautiful and even though there were a ton of people,
we recommend coming very early if you're gonna come here. Yeah, earlier the better.
Even with the crowds, you can't beat the views from the top. It's a
must-do when you're on Oahu. Yeah, it's your
can't-miss. So one thing we failed to mention is parking and the
admission fee for Diamond Head. You can park either before the
actual visitor center trailhead area and walk in. That's a
dollar a person, I believe, and it's cash only.
Or you could park at the visitor center, which was full when we got there, but you
just wait in a short line and we parked within like five minutes.
And that was five dollars cash only and they have people
directing you to spots and so no one's cutting and
it's a very fair parking process. So if you go to Diamond Head,
make sure you have cash with you and we recommend parking at the visitor center
because you'll be a super close walk to the trailhead.
When you're in Hawaii, you must listen to 93.1 Duff Hyena.
It'll put you in the island spirit. It's
just awesome Hawaiian music. We listened to it the entire time we're here.
Check it out.
So I'm going to start this off by saying that I am not an adventurous eater.
I really hate seafood. I've tried salmon, lobster,
I've tried quite a few different types of fish and I've never really enjoyed
any of them. It's a taste and a texture thing for me.
So I've never had poke and well for some people that's like one of their favorite
foods and everyone thinks it's awesome. For me it's kind of terrifying because
it's raw and I don't even like cooked fish
but I promised Adam I would try it on this trip so I'm gonna do it.
So this is my first ever bite of poke. I'm kind of scared but here we go.
I'm like nervous. Okay so a couple things. I thought it was gonna
be like much like kind of like when you don't really fully
cook a piece of chicken and it's kind of like tough and chewy.
I thought it was gonna be like that so it's very soft
and doesn't really taste like fish. So Adam you win.
Poke's not that bad. That's a big win. That's a big win. I might eat it again in
the future. I always tell her she's missing out on a whole world of flavor.
Awesome food. She needs to get on the train.
I'm about to devour this. So yeah he's gonna finish it and maybe
at another point on our trip I will get my own but I will
I'm proud of myself for being adventurous and poke's not bad at all.
Got my poke from Ono Seafood. It's supposed to be the best poke in Honolulu.
There was a sign in there that said in 2015 it was rated number five
places to eat. Top 100 places to eat in the U.S.
So super excited for this. So I got the number one.
I don't know what is all in it but I think it's tuna. Ahi tuna.
So but I'm so hungry. Oh yeah that's Ono. The best.
That's really good. The fish is awesome. The rice is great.
You gotta come try it. We are at Waiola Shave Ice.
We accidentally came to the wrong location. Their other location's super
famous. It has like well over 2,000 reviews on Yelp but we
came to this one on accident. But there's really no one here so that's
awesome. Adam got Obama's Rainbow with ice cream
and condensed milk or snow cap. And then I got pineapple and
coconut with ice cream and also a snow cap.
We're gonna dig on in.
That is the softest ice I've ever had in my entire life.
Yesterday's shave ice was amazing but this makes that one
feel like a chunk of ice. This is incredibly soft.
Come here if you're in Honolulu. Waiola Shave Ice.
Delicious. It's like you're eating a cloud.
So good. Obama's Rainbow. It's like butter. So soft.
That's good. Obama's Rainbow. The next stop on our Stuff Our Face before we roll on
to the beach tour is Leonard's Bakery.
All this gluten smells so good.
So normally I don't eat gluten. I'm not celiac. I'm just really sensitive to it
so I stay away from it. But when we came to Oahu five and a half
years ago I didn't know this place existed and then I found out about it
and I've been dying to try it ever since. So
I'm gonna regret this later but we're at Leonard's Bakery.
Home of famous malasadas and we bought two of them and I'm gonna have a bite
and it'll be worth it. I have a feeling. They are hot and fresh out the kitchen.
And we got the cinnamon sugar and then we got a coconut filled one.
I've missed you gluten. It's my first taste of gluten intentionally for
in a very long time.
It is like a pillow.
It's so soft. Can I sleep on that? Can I sleep on this?
It's very good. This place is so famous that if you were to google where to eat
in Honolulu it would come up. But even though it's very popular you
should definitely come here. Don't skip it because you think it's a tourist trap.
It's very good. One more bite.
Got free unlimited parking at Waikiki which is absolutely unheard of.
All the other lots are like two hour minimum or you pay like $40.
It's the biggest win of all time.
Alright. Waikiki Beach. Tons of spots available.
I feel like you're the only one here. Although it's really busy it's such a
classic. You kind of have to come here when you're
visiting the island. Although we will say we do enjoy the more secluded beaches
on the other areas of the island. The view here is iconic. You just can't
really miss it.
Long nap in the sun. Time to go get in the ocean. This is so fun.
The water is really nice and warm. The waves are fun.
It's beautiful water. Adam's terrified that I have the camera in the water.
I'm holding it on for dear life.
We just finished a gorgeous sunset at Waikiki Beach. It was magical.
Even with all the people it was still very magical.
And now we're headed to Duke's which is our Hawaiian tradition. So every time we
come to Hawaii we go to Duke's to eat dinner or lunch.
So this will be our fifth time at Duke's. We've been to Duke's on Oahu, Maui and
Kauai. And we've been to this location before
and it's basically on the beach which is really awesome. Yeah we love it. It's one
of our favorite places. It has like two sides to it. It has a barefoot bar
with tacos and burgers and nachos. Stuff like that.
And then they have a nicer side with steaks and nice cuts of fish and all
that stuff. And we're gonna head to the barefoot bar.
We're gonna sit outside hopefully and have some nachos and some delicious
dinner. And we're very hungry. Get some grinds.
We can't wait. So Duke's is so busy that they ran out of pagers. So they told us
to come back in like 25 minutes to get a pager and then I guess we'll wait even
longer to actually get a table. But we're crossing our fingers it won't
be too bad. It'll be worth it regardless. So we're
gonna go get coffee. And on our way to go get coffee we
noticed my favorite little stand from the north
shore has a spot here with the amazing bullet coffee.
So we're gonna go get some.
I got the blackened Cajun fish tacos. I think it's grilled some kind of fish.
No idea what it is but come with chips, guac, pico.
It has like a crema on it. Looks delicioso. And I got the kalua
pork nachos which is like three times the size of my face. It is
huge. Adam will be helping me finish this for
sure. That's a wrap on day three at Oahu. We are very full so we're
gonna roll back to our car. Go to bed because we have a very early
adventure tomorrow morning. We're gonna be exploring the east side
of the island which we haven't spent much time on in the past.
So we're super stoked.
It's so fluffy!
