Giacinto Calderara [Caldarara]
(Casale Monferrato, 12 March 1729 - Asti, 16 September 1803)
Italian composer. Almost nothing is known about his early years but he was encouraged to musical career by his family. From 1749 he was choirmaster of the Cathedral of Asti, a post he held until his death. Despite he was mainly focused on sacred music, he also wrote some operas among them 'Ricimer', the most praised with libretto by Francesco Silvani, and premiered 27th December 1755 in Turin under Giovanni Battista Somis direction. Regarding his sacred music, he wrote 145 psalms, 21 masses, several mass settings, motets and other pieces. #ClassicalMusic
