Leonardo da Vinci's masterpieces
Leonardo da Vinci (April 15, 1452 - May 2, 1519) was born in or close to the Tuscan hill town of Vinci, Italy.
Around 1481, Young Leonardo left Florence to arrive in Milan, as invited by Duke Ludovico Sforza. Here, he studied anatomy as a self-taught person.
Leonardo carefully noted over 13,000 pages of notes and drawings in his lifetime. Around 7,000 pages are still kept, showing how Leonardo studied human anatomy.
Leonardo dissected many human bodies and attempted to draw, categorize and understand every part of the human body. His anatomy studies were not only for improving his art but also for a scientific purpose. As a result, we can see Leonardo's paintings are realistic and life-like.
Leonardo is identified as one of the greatest artists in art history. He is often credited as the founder of the High Renaissance.
He created several works which have become the most influential paintings in Western art, including the 'Madonna of the Rocks' and 'The Last Supper.'
