Solo Wild Camping with a Big Tarp

Oh hello world ones, I'm here in the woods today with a tarp bigger than I'm used to, a saw and my firebox. Let's have ourselves a lovely little bushcraft camp. So today's shelter is a 3.5 by 3.5 DD multi-cam tarp. This is bigger and heavier than what I'm used to. I'm used to the super lights which are 3 by 2.9. I really love the super lights but I thought it would be nice to experience a bigger tarp and see what it's all about. And I'm going to be cooking on my firebox today. I've got some gorgeous fresh ingredients, going to start a birchbark fire, all that fun stuff. Right, let's get this tarp up. That is huge! So my bed for today is a summer bed. I've got a new mat. This is a z light, zed light. It will not keep me as warm as my inflatable mats but it's really hot. I don't think I'm going to need much more than this today. It's a closed cell foam mat and I love the colour of it. It's so lovely and blends in with the ground and everything. And I actually love laying on the ground so I think I'll find this really comfy. The only issue of course is losing heat to the ground but with it being so warm today I'm hoping it'll be okay. We'll give it a try, see how it goes. I've got my usual Trekology aloft pillow and I've got my snugpack jungle blanket today. I've not bought a sleeping bag because it's so warm. I really don't want to be confined in a sleeping bag today and this actually has sort of a water resistant layer and a soft layer so without a bivvy bag or anything as well I think this will be ideal for this evening. So this is my bed for the night, nice and simple. Hopefully it'll keep me warm enough, time will tell. Now I'm going to get some firewood and some birch bark ready for dinner. So one of the great things about this zed light is I can just move it around, put it on the ground, use it as a sit mat. This would be really nice to sit and cut some wood up. Let's get some birch bark ready. I'm so glad to have that fire going because I can't cook my dinner without it but it's so hot. On the other hand the fire will be helping to keep the bugs away so that's good. So I'm gonna get some dinner prepared now. Oh yeah, so for tonight's tea I've got some delicious pork belly, I've got basil, got some soy sauce, a lovely lime and last but not least some garlic. So we'll get that chopped up and on there and then we'll get these cooking. Flames died down now so I'm going to get these going. I've cut them in half so they'll fit on a bit better. It's going to be amazing. I think these might be done. Let's have a look. That food was amazing. It's gone 11 now which is crazy. I've been here since about half five and it's taken me that long to set up the tarp, get a fire going, cook the food. Everything seems to take longer out here than you think it's going to take. That's fine, I've got that nice feeling where everything's been done that needs to be done and I've got full tummy and I can have a nice sleep now. I was planning to make a bushcraft chair as well while I was here but there's no way I would have had time for that so that's all right. I don't know what that noise is. It's been really nice. I've had about five hours sleep I think which is fine. I quite like lying on the zee light. It does of course feel a lot different to an inflatable mat. You haven't got that squishiness under you but I never felt cold on it. It is of course really warm at the moment so I wouldn't want to be using it in cold weather but you could use zee light in winter paired with an inflatable mat and it'll keep you warmer. I really love that I can use it as a bed and then I can put it outside and lay by the fire and not worry about it getting popped by the fire or popped on a twig so yeah really loving that. It's great. This tarp is awesome. It is so big compared to super lights. Not that I have any problem with the super lights. I absolutely love my super lights but this feels huge. It feels like a palace and it's not rained but if it had rained I would have been so well protected and could have made such a big spacious cozy home for the night so yeah really loving that. I've had my breakfast so I'm just gonna finish my chocolate coffee and I'm gonna get out of here so thanks for watching guys and I'll see you next time. Bye!
