Hey guys, welcome back to our channel.
I have had quite a few requests on me doing a video explaining in more detail
how I rotate my food with my everyday working pantry and my food storage.
So just kind of how I make sure that I don't let food expire and the best way
that I go about that. So I'm going to be sharing tips with you in this video.
One thing I do is usually the last Saturday of every month is when I will do
this and I will do my inventory for the whole month and I actually let this go a
little bit longer. As you can see the top shelf,
I usually have it completely full of cereal and we were just about out. Um,
I let it go a little bit more just so that I had more to do for this video.
But what I like to do is again on the last Saturday of every month,
I'll go to my pantry and I will write down anything that we're missing.
I like to have the same amount of stock with everything and I know what my
family goes through within about a three month period.
That's what my regular pantry is for.
I like to keep a three month of everyday food stored in our regular pantry
upstairs. So you'll see me here writing down a shopping list and these are all
of the items I am going to be going in the basement and I will be shopping from
my longterm food storage and then I'll explain after that how I replenish that.
But first I go downstairs and I will just get all of the things that I wrote
down I needed for our pantry upstairs. I don't know if you can see here,
but there was a split in this cereal so I made sure to obviously grab this one
first since it has been exposed to air.
I didn't want that sitting here for much longer.
So I try to keep these in order of expiration date so that I will grab them
first.
I recently went around and wrote the expiration date big in marker on all of
the fronts just because it's easier than having to try to find it and then
rotate. So when I go to the store,
I will come home and immediately put the date on and then move everything to the
back.
So the things I'm going to be grabbing right now are obviously the things that
will be expiring very first.
So now once I have everything up here on my counter,
it really looks like I just went grocery shopping and now I will be moving
everything into my pantry and putting them on the shelves and making sure that I
rotate these foods as well.
So I'll be putting any of the older food that's been sitting there.
I'll move that forward and I'll be putting the new food in the back.
If you are new here or this is the first video that you're watching of mine,
I do have more videos that go into a lot more detail on food storage,
longterm food storage and short term.
I'll leave all of those linked below as well as a more in detail video on food
storage in general. So this is just more of how I rotate my food.
This might not be as helpful as some of those other videos. So again,
I will have those linked below.
Now the next thing that I do after I have stocked all of this is I will actually
take that same list that I just used for my basement and I will take that to the
grocery store and I will buy every amount that I borrowed from the basement and
I will restock it in my longterm food storage.
So this is the way that I make sure that we always have a two year supply of food
for my family. The amount of food you want to store though is totally up to you.
A lot of people start with three months and I think that's a great place to
start is having a three month supply of food storage. So again,
if you're just getting started,
that's what I would shoot for is having a three month supply of food for your
family in case of any emergency.
As you can see in the year 2021 right now it is February and we are seeing
Texas completely frozen over.
I think it's really safe to say we cannot predict what tomorrow holds.
So it is so crucial to have some kind of food and water supply on hand.
And that's actually what I wanted to go into on this next topic.
I did create a food storage and emergency preparedness workbook.
There's 38 pages in here and it's really all the information that I have
gathered over the last four years that I have been studying up on food storage.
I've put it all in this book and I help walk you through how to create your own
food storage list,
your inventory and the things that your family needs based off of what you like
to eat. So again, I give some examples of what I do,
but this is really customizable for every individual to make their own for their
family and what their family needs.
I've also included any tips and information that I've gathered over the years
on emergency preparedness.
That's another huge thing that I think a lot of people overlook or don't think
about even going into detail on the emergency things you should have on hand in
case there's a power outage in case we don't have any running water. I mean,
I go through all of that.
So I will have a link to this printable in the description box below if you are
interested in purchasing that.
And I'm also really grateful for all of those who have already purchased it.
This really helps support this YouTube channel.
I know that emergency preparedness is not like our daily thing that we do on our
channel, but this is something that I have become really passionate about.
So I was really happy to create this system for anybody that's just getting
started with food storage and really doesn't know where to begin.
It is kind of overwhelming.
So I tried to create something that I wish that I had when I was first learning
about food storage and emergency preparedness. Okay guys,
well that's everything for this video. Thank you so much for watching.
