challenging myself to unhaul 30 books (i HATE unhauling)

Who is ready for my least favorite pastime? Unhauling some books. Hello my loves, welcome back to my channel. Today I'm doing the booktube favorite, I'm gonna unhaul some books. So I think I've done two unhauls, right? I've done two unhauls in the past where one I had to unhaul 30 books and then I think I upped it to 40 books. Now those unhauls were made easier by the fact that I'd never unhauled before that. I am not innately an unhauler, I am a hoarder in all senses of life. I find getting rid of things very hard. So yeah, it was made easier that I'd never unhauled anything and so I had a lot of books from when I'd just started reading that I'd bought in charity shops and stuff that I really had no interest in reading anymore and because I bought them from charity shops I had no qualms about getting rid of them. Now that's not the case anymore. It makes me want to cry. No, it makes me want to cry, like, because it scares the ---- out of me. If I've read a book it's fine to unhaul it but I don't really want to unhaul books I've read because I like having books. I'm more likely to actually want to unhaul something from my TBR that I'm no longer interested in reading but I don't like unhauling books I was gifted. Even by my family, especially if it's a book that I didn't ask for, that they just gave me, I can't unhaul that even if I'm not interested in reading it because I just can't, I can't do that to them. Yeah, I don't like unhauling books I spent a lot of money on because then that's a waste. Like, there's a limited pool of books I can unhaul. Now, of course I've gone 30, 40 and then, do you think in the third one I had to go 50? We're going back down to 30. I don't even know if I'm going to do that. My real goal is like 20 books if I could unhaul. That would be great because I need the space. Basically, to cut a long story short, this is all of my bookshelves for the next probably two years. Me and my partner are saving up to buy our own flat at the moment we live with our parents and so this is the space I have for books. I don't have any other space in my room for books. We are running out of space and I'm probably going to read like another 200 books in the next two years. Great, I need the space so that's why we're doing this. I'm going to try my best but I don't like unhauling so let's just see how we do. 30 is the goal, let's go. Right, I have two that I know I'm fine with unhauling. First we have Kings of a Dead World by Jamie Mollett. This was a book that I was sent, I have an ARC, I was sent this by a publisher. Nowadays when I get offers from publishers for books I'm immensely grateful but I try to know myself and I try to think if this is not an author I've read from before, a book that I had already been excited for, probably not going to get around to it. So now I do say no a lot of the time and that's not me being like I get offers no you know it's me trying to do I don't want to waste people's time or money basically but yeah this is from the era where I was just like when I just started getting offers I felt so lucky so blessed that I was like yeah give me everything. I know this is like earth's resources are dwindling the solution is sleep it's like sci-fi I don't tend to read a lot of sci-fi and I could hold on to this right I could be like the noble person and not admit my mistakes and be like I don't know if that's noble and just hold on to it but I'm never gonna read this I'm never gonna read it so we're unholding it that's one off the TBR. Hey fancy another one? I'm also gonna unhold off my TBR Beasts of Prey by Ayanna Gray. I thought about holding on to this but again I don't think I'm ever gonna read it I'm trying to be a lot more intentional with the YA fantasy that I pick up and particularly YA fantasy series it's easy to get yourself in the middle of like 20 virginian YA fantasy series and I was thinking the other day like how many YA fantasy books have I actually given five stars think about it there's not that many I read a lot of it but I don't think I give a lot of it five stars so I'm really trying to be more intentional with the YA fantasy that I do pick up it's not that I'm not interested in this but it's just one that bites the dust I've heard really great things about this yeah I don't know I'm thinking I'm just reading a little bit less YA fantasy at the moment right that's two down do I want to unhaul anything off my shelves yet not really I don't know if I can do this I've started the video and I'm like if we even make it to 10 that might be lucky I can't do this no absolutely not ---- ---- okay okay I had those first two in mind and I was like oh then I'll find some more apparently not okay I'm gonna unhaul the Museum of Extraordinary Things by Alice Hoffman this is one of the last books that I have kept that I read when I was more like 13 14 and I remember enjoying it it's about like a mermaid in like you know a museum circus kind of thing I don't really know I remember enjoying this but I don't really remember any thoughts on it and I'm never gonna reread it and I think I would rather going forward my collection mirror my reading since my reading resurgence when I discovered booktube and stuff I don't really hold anything to this so that's going bye bye right let's look at the tbr again because I think that could be easier especially the books that I'm like hiding away do you want another one I'm gonna unhaul the Dance of Serpents by Oscar de Muriel this I did it cost me $6.99 okay I feel a bit better about this it was at my Hay-on-Wyatt bookshopping video I bought this and I still would be excited to read this in some sense the word but this is the sixth in a series I originally thought this was like an acuporo kind of series where you could like pick and choose where you read from but it's not so I have to read five other books that I don't own and really have no plans of buying before I read this so I think it was just a mistake that I made in the moment like on the back it's like a hugely entertaining victorian mystery gothic creepy it's the sixth in a series so I'm never gonna read this okay four done this I we're not gonna get to 30 I hate to tell you now it's not happening tomorrow I actually give up let's like try 20 and then see where we are okay nothing there oh god next one number five I'm gonna unhaul theatre of marvels I read this earlier this year and it was just very disappointing it was two stars one of my most disappointing books of the year so far and part of me feels like I should keep this and unhaul it in like January do like after I've done my end of year videos yeah no I have to keep that and unhaul it in January because I need to hold it up in January when I haven't liked the books I need to really unhaul books off my shelves because yeah I need the space I'm going to unhaul the empire of dreams by Ray Carson I didn't give this a super low rating I think I gave it like a three but I did this read along with Nicole my friend Nicole from Nicole and her books right at the start of when I started YouTube where we read the there's like an original series girl of is it girl of fire and thorns I think we read the original series and then this was like a new release had come out and I had the other books in ebook anyway I don't own the other books that we read from the original series and this was my least favorite and so I just don't feel anything towards it and I feel okay unhauling it and it'll go to a better home and someone else will enjoy it okay five oh this is terrible 20 I've got to get to 20 I was in pure shock I thought I might have misheard in case you hadn't noticed I'm not very good at this okay we have to be we have to be really harsh I'm getting hot if you can't tell I've been filming for 17 minutes already so we have to be harsh I'm gonna unhaul these three thrillers we have a place to lie we have the guilty one and the good mother and I'm just never gonna read them I'm sad about it but I'm never gonna read them the only way I'd read them would probably be like if I did a video that randomly picked what I read on my tbr and these came up like I would never choose to read them because there's literally 200 books in front of them of how excited I am to read them so they're going eight okay okay we can do this I just think she's very delusional and maybe possibly insane right we're up to eight at this point I'm even just trying to get 15 I can't you notice I find it hard to unhaul but I need the shelf space okay I'm gonna unhaul this is a tough one I'm gonna unhaul Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson I didn't dislike this I gave it three stars and I would keep this where I'm planning to read any Margaret Rogerson in the future but I just don't think she's for me and so I'm gonna unhaul her like I don't like to unhaul books by a book I didn't love if I'm planning on still trying out that author in the future because then I'd have their books together and then that gives me one hardback fantasy space to be filled by something else so that's how we're looking at it that's coming nine okay let's unhaul that and that okay two non-fictions I'm going to unhaul The Secret Barrister which again I enjoyed this but I don't think I'm ever going to read this again I'm not planning on getting any of their other books it's like a barrister in the UK who publishes books anonymously talking about their experiences in the court system and it's just hiding behind my non-fiction shelf so I'm never going to read this again and I'm going to unhaul The Devil in the White City which I read for a booktube twin test video and I did not like this I found it so boring. This is the story of the Chicago World Fair yeah the Chicago World Fair that was being built and the story that being built and a serial killer that operated at a time it's so like it's tangentially linked the right word like it's a it's a stretch is what I'm trying to say that these two are connected and I feel like the poor author just wanted to write about the Chicago World Fair because they were the bits that had the most information and when he was pitching the book to his publisher he was like oh yeah there was like a serial killer at the time kind of but like before and after the World Fair like not just at the World Fair and they were like serial killer write about that and this poor man had to write about a serial killer that he had no interest in so getting rid of this how many is that now 11 okay okay we can get to 15 I can unhaul I can make the hard decision to unhaul at least four more we're not getting to 30 I hate to tell you that like it's just definitely not happening I just found um another copy of Theatre of Marvels they sent me two arcs they sent me this one originally and then they sent me the one I actually read because it had the the final art on it two book of the month books that I have I love book of the month I'm so so beyond grateful that they send me books I love working with them they're my favorite people to work with I have never unhauled a single book a month I've ever been sent ever I own them all still but two that since they came out I've heard negative things about particularly in some of their like portrayals of stuff like kind of people not being happy with the portrayals of certain things and so I just don't think I'm gonna end up reading them uh Olga Dies Dreaming and Vladmir now I know this one is about like a student teacher relationship and it's about kind of a toxic relationship and abuse and stuff but I have just heard some people not loving this and the same with this I've heard some people not being happy with the representation in this one so I just don't think I'm gonna read these they are the only book of the month books I've ever unhauled and it's paining me but if I'm honest with myself I'd just be keeping them because I love like book of the month like the corner versus I don't think I'd ever actually read them okay how many is that 14 okay one more we've got to 15 that might be it I just I don't think there's many more that I want to unhaul I'm going am I going to unhaul this it's got dust on it I want to unhaul this yeah okay I'm gonna unhaul the Mystery of Black Hollow Lane this is another book oh my god I've unhauled two of Aaron's books I didn't dislike this I gave it three stars and I did read the second in the series on audiobook I listened to it on Scribd so I have continued on this series but because I ended up reading the second one by audiobook anyway so I don't own that and the series has ended I believe and I didn't love this I'm gonna unhaul this it's like a middle grade mystery set at this private school and you know it was fine the reason I was like oh do I want to unhaul this was because when I have middle grades I'm like I'll give that to my kids that is 15 books that I might be admitting defeat and that might be it because there's not much else I want to unhaul and I haven't really helped myself get much more shelf space oh you know what I can do one more I can do one more do you want another one I'm gonna unhaul Final Girls by Riley Sager am I yes I am I just didn't enjoy this I gave it three stars it's not that I hated it but it gave me nothing it gave me nothing and so I just don't really care one of his other books I have in hardback so it just doesn't make much sense for me to hold on to this I'm getting gone 16 okay well I could make it to 20 four more okay right I'm gonna unhaul uh Fight Back and Win by Gloria Allred so Gloria Allred is a famous lawyer and um I watched I feel like there was by the way what is going on with the lighting can we adjust thank you yeah I watched the Netflix documentary about her and like about what she'd done and I was like wow this is when I was like in my empowering women phase like I was obsessed with Diane Von Furstenberg from DBF so I got this I remember not even really enjoying it because it's a bit like you can tell she needed help in writing it it's a bit canned I don't remember anything about it I don't consume any media about her anymore it can get gone right are we sure that's 17 and not more because I really hope it's more I'm gonna need a cocktail two more and we can get to 20 two more Megan two more just two more no three more by the way I'm gonna cut out all of the like I'm spending minutes here trying to figure out what to pick like minutes you won't read this I've been filming for 33 minutes already like it's not good for me out here okay am I gonna do that yeah okay that will this can go to a better home basically when I unhaul books I give my um I give my patrons first dibs if they want me to send them any and then and then I just give them to the charity shop so this will go to a better home I'm gonna unhaul Symmetry Boys by Aiden Thomas this wasn't bad I gave it three stars again I didn't love it and I was a bit disappointed because obviously it was such a hyped up book and it just wasn't for me sadly I might try Aiden Thomas out in the future I might not yeah again I'm just trying to be more selective with the YA fantasy I do pick up so that's that one that someone else will read and love because so many people have loved that I'm gonna unhaul The Taking of Jake Livingstone this is a horror YA horror I read at the end of last year it's basically about a guy who can see ghosts and he starts uh getting like haunted by the ghost of a guy who I think committed a shooting and we get perspectives from that ghost as well and I just did not adore this gonna be honest didn't love it it was a debut and I feel like it wasn't okay for a debut but I often look at this on my shelf and just feel like it doesn't fit with all the other horror I have there which is a whole horror that I pretty much enjoyed one last one this does happen to be book of the month as well but it's like a sequel this is The Book of Magic by Alice Hoffman who turns out I just unhauled another book from sorry Alice but yeah this is the sequel prequel to there's like practical magic and isn't there like rules of magic I don't know but I'm not planning I don't own any of those other books I feel like this was given out by book of the month to influencers because a lot of people have read those books I haven't I have no plans to read them so at the moment this is just sitting on my shelf and again this would be great to give to someone who has read the other books I'm not sure if it's just one book or two hang on let me look at what I'm saying before I talk out of my ass no it's just the second one in the series from practical magic oh there's magic lessons the rules of magic yeah I wasn't making up rules of magic is like a prequel okay I have no plans to read the other books in this series so I feel like it's just better to pass it on to someone who will appreciate it more okay 20 books unhauled I could not make it to 30 I couldn't do it I don't think you're gonna see a lot of unhauls from me anymore like this because it's really hard I've been filming for 40 minutes the video is probably only like 18 minutes long because so much of that video is me like what do I pick thank you guys for watching let me know if you
