How to make a Christmas mug on the Cricut

Welcome to day 11 of our Christmas countdown today. We're going to be making Christmas mugs with the Cricut machine I'm making black and white mugs today just to make it very simple and easy for you to see what I'm doing But you can change the color and designs and make them personalized for Christmas. So let's get started So the first thing we're going to do today is just measure out our cup. So I'm just going to take a ruler I'm going to measure both the width and the height of my cup and that way I'll just know How much room I have to work with when making my design and I can have it You know be just exactly how I want it to fit on the cup So mine's about two and a half inches just up and down It does kind of curve towards the bottom of the cup So I'm going to keep that my in mind with my design and probably keep it closer to two inches Now that I know the size I can open up design space is doing a new project And then we're going to find those free SVGs we're going to go to upload and then we're going to browse our images and We're just going to look for Oh come let us adore him we're going to Select that and then we're just going to add that to our canvas Click on the upload button and then select it to add to our canvas And you can get all these free SVG files down below. You can get it there Here is my design there's an extra star for some reason behind this image So I'm just going to select the star out here and just delete that quick and then we're going to readjust the design to be the same shape as The coffee mug so we had about two to two and a half inches of space on our mug So I'm going to adjust this image to around two and a half inches and then once I'm satisfied with the size, I'm going to go over and hit the attach button and then we're going to make it and We're going to be using that outdoor high quality vinyl so we're going to select the 12 by 12 mat and we're just going to confirm all that information and then we're going to cut our design so Once we have our material selected, I'm just going to use vinyl but you can also browse the materials and look for the premium Permanent vinyl and then we're just going to make our design. So we're going to hit Make a design on Cricut design space and then we're going to go over To our machine. We're going to load our vinyl first and then it should have a blinking Cricut light if everything is set up correctly on Our machine we're just going to hit that blinking Cricut light and then our machine will do its magic and cut out our design And it actually had two different SVGs I use so now I'm going to weed the second one, which was the joy to the world So just take your weeding tool start with the little areas in between the letters the pictures and just pull out those small little areas and then just peel off the bigger area and Now we're ready to transfer it on to our mug So we're going to take some transfer tape here. If you haven't used this it just holds your design together So we're going to scrape that over our vinyl and that will just keep all The joy to the world in the same spot when we transfer it on to our mug We're just going to peel that off gently And if some of the letters are sticking it's okay You can just kind of peel them up with your finger and just rub a little bit extra with your scraping tool until you can Get the design off of the vinyl backing in one piece Now we're planning to add our design to our cup But we want to make sure we always clean our cup before adding our design And once you have it on your transfer tape We're going to do something a little different because we want the design to wrap around the mug so I'm just going to take a scissors and just cut slits around the edges of Your design and this way it'll more easily Form to the round shape of our cup So we're just going to rub our design on to the face of our cup and once everything is adhering well Then we're just going to peel our transfer tape off and because we have the slits it comes off in different chunks Which is kind of neat actually because then you're not pulling at the design altogether it just takes a little bit off at a time, so just peel off all those different sections of the transfer tape and Then we're going to do the final step which is to seal our mug So to seal our mug and this is so that your mug will be more durable and last longer We're going to use dishwasher safe Mod Podge and even though it is dishwasher safe I would still recommend washing these mugs by hand, but we're just going to take some of that Mod Podge and just spread it over our design and we're not going to do the whole cup. It is not necessary once the Mod Podge Dries it really blends in nicely with the cup because it's a glossy finish so just make sure you don't have big areas of clumps or You know, sometimes you get the streaks of the Mod Podge Just make sure it's kind of well brushed out so you don't have any of those areas and Then we're just gonna let it dry and then when it is dry to the touch We're gonna add another coat of it on top and this will just seal the cup So that you can use it over and over again, and then we're just gonna let that dry again But that's really it to making personalized mugs for Christmas.
