Those of you out there that are Porsche experts, I'm not claiming to be a Porsche expert.
I know enough to be dangerous, though.
Good morning, guys.
Good morning.
So, we are in Lincoln University, Pennsylvania.
And that actually is the name of the town.
I'm pretty excited today.
I think Alex is too.
Yeah, me too.
We're picking up a significant piece that we need in our Porsche collection that we've
been working on going on four years now, which I thought I could do in two years.
Yeah.
Well, we haven't accomplished that yet.
But, we're picking up a 68 912 Targa soft window.
Crazy rare.
In a few minutes, I'll tell you how many of those they built.
So, grab your cup of joe, and let's go rescue a very rare Porsche.
There it is.
We spotted it from the road.
Very cool.
What's up, Zach?
What up?
How was the drive?
Decent.
That's good.
All right, Alex.
Let's go over it real quick.
So, like I said in this morning, this is, as you know, one of the few that we don't have.
Yeah.
Targa soft window.
Very cool.
So, let's check all the normal numbers.
Let's open it up, check the floor number, bill tag, paint tag inside the door.
What I really want to check is the motor.
So, here's what I know from talking to Roger about the car.
The car's from Arizona.
Okay.
So, it hasn't been here all this time.
This is the original paint.
Oh, cool.
The car's never been painted.
I like that.
So, I'm already leaning, even though I've looked at it for a short period, leaning towards
patina style.
Yeah.
So, what we are really hoping to see here is the 1-2-8.
So, 1-2 is, you know, it's a 9-12.
An 8, it's a 68.
Right.
But what you want to see here is you want to see a 7.
Okay.
The 7 means it's a Targa.
Got it.
Okay.
So, we got a 1-2-8-7.
That's a good start.
That's a Targa.
Tool kit.
Outstanding.
Alright.
Look how clean the floor number is, Alex.
Oh, yeah.
Really, really nice.
And, of course, it matches.
03-04.
Original spare.
Look how nice this is.
So, we got a good start.
Other thing is, let's walk and look inside the door jamb.
So, you know, the first thing, when these things are painted, people always poorly tape this
stuff off.
Oh, yeah.
Obviously, it has not been painted.
And it is the right color code for Bahama yellow.
It's a 5-gauge car, which is nice.
Oh, yeah.
Now, being the soft window, a lot of people converted these cars.
Yeah.
Okay.
I can tell this actually is the original top.
But if you reach inside the Targa bar, reach in here, feel this area right here?
Yeah.
That's for soft window only.
Okay.
So, this car has not been baked, if you will.
Now, he says he believes it's got the original motor in it, so let's hope it does.
Now, is it a 128 or a 108 on the motor?
Just a prefix of it.
Are they on the side up here?
No, it should be right there.
There we go.
Yep, it should be on the generator stand.
Yeah.
Oh, you can see it.
It's there, Alex.
Sometimes they're hard to read, so get your iPhone out.
Boom.
Okay.
Outstanding.
So, we've got a 128, which is great because the 128 series is the U.S. version.
So, this is not a Euro car.
If it was a 108, this would have been a European car.
So, not only have we got a 128 in the VIN, slash 7 showing the Targa car, we've got a 128 on the motor.
Now, as you know, these motors don't line up.
No.
If they did, it's just very odd.
So, this is motor.
They should be close in sequence.
Okay.
So, this is 355.
Right.
It's car 304.
I will bet just about any amount of money on the planet this is the original motor.
Yeah.
That's huge.
All right.
Got a good start here, James.
Yes, sir.
So, I've seen enough to shake the guy's hand.
Agreed?
Yeah.
All right.
Well, let me go speak with Roger and get the deal done, then we'll figure out how to get it in the trailer.
It's got three flats.
Four tires?
I'm going to try to buy these Fuchs.
Okay.
69 day code.
Cool.
All right.
Look at that.
Teamwork makes the dream work.
Those of you out there that are Porsche experts, I'm not claiming to be a Porsche expert.
I know enough to be dangerous, though.
In 1968, on the 912 Targa soft window, how many of you guys think it was built?
There are many different numbers floating around out there, many different theories.
I've heard 22.
I've heard 24.
I've heard 66.
I've heard as many as a couple of hundred.
So, if somebody definitively knows, please let us know.
Drives great.
It's quiet.
One of my many dad talents that I have is whistling.
Coming behind you, James.
All right.
We're here with Mr. Eric Halverson and Andrew.
They're the finders of the 912, so thank you guys for that.
Absolutely.
It's a great car.
It's what we really needed for our collection.
Right, Alex?
Yep.
One of the big missing links of our collection.
Good.
Final question of the day.
Where's the best local place to eat?
Somewhere right here in this town.
It would be the Octorero Hotel right up in the middle of town, Oxford.
Octorero Hotel.
Would you guys like to go eat with us?
Absolutely.
Meet you there.
All righty.
So, the locals call this place the Oat.
But it's the Octorero Oat since 1827.
It's supposed to be the best food in town.
I hear the hamburgers and the chili.
It's fantastic.
And it's closed.
Huh.
Outstanding.
I actually did read that sign.
It went around to the other side.
It says now open.
But evidently it's that door.
We'll go try that door.
Come on, James.
Here we go.
James.
Jane.
Looking at your menu, I see a Scrappalicious Burger.
Yes.
Can you give me just a quick rundown of what that is?
Scrapple?
Yes.
It's like a Lancaster County thing.
It's pork, cornmeal, and they kind of just take all the leftovers
and then make it into a patty.
These are leftovers that you don't want to tell the customer what they actually are?
Correct.
Is there eyeballs in there?
No.
Maybe?
No.
Okay.
Well, I've never heard of it, so I've got to try it.
Okay.
It's a German thing, right?
Yes.
Okay.
Well, make it properly however a German would love that burger.
Okay.
I like a lot of stuff on there, but I'll leave it up to you.
All right.
Fried egg?
Good.
Do you like eggs?
Absolutely.
Okay.
Bacon, jalapenos, load it up.
I think the only thing on here that I don't want is the mushrooms.
Okay.
You're in the mushroom capital of the world.
Oh, well, put it on the side.
Okay.
Actually, we did see a mushroom farm by your house.
It's everywhere.
Yeah.
Okay.
It's right down the street from our house.
Take that back.
Put mushrooms on it.
She lives right down the street from where we work.
Yeah.
Okay.
Very cool.
Medium.
Medium rare.
Wow.
You have a choice on that, too.
Yeah.
Your burger.
I figured you could cook eyeballs all the way.
No.
Well, scrapples cooked well done.
All right.
Medium rare, then.
I'll get the barbecue chicken flatbread.
No onions.
Well, that's not very exciting.
No, it's not.
James, you better order something cool.
I was going to order what you ordered, but you've already ordered it.
So you do it.
I'm in.
There's two.
Medium rare also?
Yes, ma'am.
Bacon?
Mushrooms?
As you make.
Yes, ma'am.
Fries?
Chips?
Sweet potato fries?
Anything else?
Sweet potato fries.
Cinnamon and sugar?
Sir?
If you want sugar on it, you've got to tell her.
Cinnamon and sugar on your fries?
They come with cinnamon and sugar, or you can get them without.
Wow.
You have to do it.
Okay.
As you make.
It's like dessert.
Do it.
Steak on egg rolls.
He did both doors.
No, no.
He's got to try it.
The guy did a really good job.
He wrapped it with my door.
He's like, man, I've got an old head.
Outstanding.
What is it?
It's a steak egg roll.
Try it.
$10?
There you go.
Yeah.
That is good.
What kind of a place did you go to New Hampshire to get that?
Who's going to eat all that?
He is.
Me?
Thanks.
Yes, sir.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Wow, look at that.
Scrappalicious burger.
With an egg on top.
Burger, you ain't got nothing on me.
I didn't get an egg.
You didn't order an egg.
There it is.
I did get an egg.
Okay.
I'm not exactly sure how we're going to do best bite on this, but I think I'm going to leave
the lid off.
The lid.
You know what I'm talking about, Zach.
The bun.
Whoa, that is so awesome.
It's kind of like breakfast on top, Alex.
Of this journey.
So what she wouldn't tell us on camera is what's in this, what I believe is in this,
is liver and gizzards and all kinds of crazy weird parts out of pork.
Could be wrong.
But the taste, just look at that.
It looks fantastic.
Looks like a burger.
Can't do it?
No, I like it.
It's an unusual taste.
It's good.
No, that's awesome.
I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd be eating a Scrappalicious burger.
I've never even heard of one.
Me neither.
Have you?
Nope.
So we're at the Oat.
And let me tell you why it's the Oat.
The last time this changed hands and the guy bought it, the H and the L had been blown
off the side.
So everybody called it the Oat instead of the Hotel.
So it's now the Oat.
So if you want a Scrappalicious burger, stop on your town here.
It is outstanding.
So the Scrappalicious is one of the most unusual hamburgers I've ever had in my life.
It was outstanding.
I ate it all.
I'd say it's a must.
If you're ever in this area, come to the Oat and try a Scrappalicious burger.
Not for me.
There you go.
So the miles are completely verified.
Yep.
31 here.
619 here.
Copy of the original MSO, which a lot of people fail to take when they transfer it to us.
Which is really, really nice to have.
So the bandit cars, you always hear everybody talk about the black and gold cars or Y84s.
This is a Y89 car.
And we're not going to go through all the options on this car because they're all the
same.
And they are hard loaded.
This is about as loaded as you could ever get a Trans Am.
These cars are just stunning.
These cars were really, really time consuming at the factory when they built them.
Power antennas to work?
Yeah.
Oh, I didn't check that.
Turn it on.
Oh, that is rad.
So the first thing we're going to do when we get it back is all this undercoating here
and under the car.
We're going to remove it.
It's going to be crazy time consuming, but it saved the car.
This car with a bunch of detail work is going to be amazing, guys.
What are they exactly?
5,511 miles.
Get you some of that.
So the 79 is not particularly rare being there were 7,500 of them built.
5689 automatics, but they are very desirable.
