It is said that cats are keenly aware of God's presence.
They somehow quietly know that a human can act as a middleman to God's will,
as opposed to the forever lovable man's best friend whom we call the dog,
which, well, they, on the other hand, actually believe you are God.
So today I'm going to tell you how in the world a dog lover like me
ended up with 10 lazy, curious, highly paranoid, but affectionate creatures whom we call the cat.
Never in my life would I have thought I'd have 10 cats living inside my house.
I've taken the time on occasion to reassess my mental health and well-being,
making sure to see if I might be on the verge of delusionism.
But I think I might be okay.
I homeschool all of my children, however, some probably think that's a crazy thing to do.
I graduated from college. I studied abroad.
I try to be a good wife to my husband and a reliable mother to my kids.
But for some reason, I became overly obsessive in collecting cats, so to speak.
Although our relationship is, it's pretty mutual.
Cats are sort of like tattoos for me.
Once you have one, you kind of want to keep getting more.
But it all boils down to this.
The feeling I got from rescuing an abandoned and homeless living being, it just felt complete.
I have always been a dog lover.
But ever since my dear friend Pharaoh passed away a few years back,
after 17 years of a long-lasting friendship, I was heartbroken.
But I'm sure he would be growling in his grave if he knew I had this many cats,
so it's best he doesn't know.
So now I think it's time to introduce you to these furry felines of ours at the Carriage House.
Let's start with Chloe, aka Mama Close, the matriarch of the Carriage House cats,
mother to son Toby and sweet little daughter Bella.
Once upon a time, she was a bright, slim sweetheart,
but it goes to prove that motherhood can really take its toll after a while.
Not only with weight gain, but motherhood can kind of make you moody after a while.
She does keep everyone in line, though, especially her own kids,
which helps me out, and she helps keep the home running smoothly here, for most part.
Next up, we have Toby, son to Mama Close, brother to Bella.
Toby is, well, Toby's very mama-dependent.
He adores his mama.
He loves cuddling with her.
He loves getting cleaned by her.
Basically, he's just a big ol' baby.
As long as he's with his mom, he's happy.
And next is sweet little Bella, daughter of Mama Close and sister to Toby.
She's the epitome of a sweet, classic little feminine cat.
Some days, she has a little pink nose, and other days, she has a little white nose.
Just an all-around sweet tabby cat who causes no trouble.
Next on the list, we have Mr. Fezziwig, son of, well, not really sure about that,
but bright and cheerful of a cat he is.
He can often be seen in the homeschool room.
Therefore, we name him the Schoolhouse Cat.
But what he's mainly known for is his love for dogs.
Now, moving on to Mrs. Elsa, white as the purest snowflake,
wife to good ol' Mr. Fezziwig, just a simple, quiet little lass.
And when I say quiet, I mean her meows don't make a sound.
Now, introducing the Celtic brothers, Samhain and Beltane,
named after the Gaelic seasonal festivals observed in Ireland,
Scotland, and other Celtic lands such as Wales.
Beltane here is the Gaelic festival of spring, often associated with May Day.
And this is Samhain, named after the celebration of All Hallows' Eve.
Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season.
And the beginning of winter, or the darker half of the year.
He's a very cautious sort of cat.
And a bit of a scaredy cat, but very sweet and cuddly.
Now, further moving on to Little Kitty, aka General George Patton,
the newest member to our cat family here.
Once was a bit of a militant and fighter cat,
but now he's calmed down and retired, so to speak.
And sweet old Jezebel,
she tends to get into quite a bit of trouble around the house,
so she mostly likes to explore the outdoors, just to keep out of trouble.
And last, but not certainly least, is my sweet dear Merlin.
I have to say, he's my absolute favorite cat out of all.
He's not only my business partner here at the Carriage House,
he's always, almost always at least, behind the scenes with me.
But he's also my best friend.
He's sharing quiet understanding and connection between us two souls.
