Hi everyone, welcome back to my channel
my name is Megan and welcome back to my channel TheCraftyQueen and
I am doing a
very different style video today and that is doing a
Stash swap and I'm doing this swap with a bunch of other really creative ladies that are on this playlist
So make sure to check out all the other videos in the playlist as well
so we sent items to each other and
just 10 items from our stash and
Everybody on the on the playlist
Received a package from one another and we had to figure out what to do with this 10 items
and so I have a very unique box because Annie, I got Indie Annie Jones, she sent them to me and
She there was a bit of a mix-up with the boxes
So she ended up sending me all new Dollar Tree items. So I was like, okay, I'm just gonna pick
10 of those items, but but like I said, there's a bit of a mix-up
So there was there's actually more than 10 items in this box
So I had the unique task of selecting 10 items out of possibly
Maybe I want to I'm just guessing by looking at it. I'm gonna say maybe 30 items. I'm not sure but
Yeah, so we're gonna take a look at what Annie sent me so first up we have these Dollar Tree wood cutouts from the crafter
Square and glad I didn't pick those up at the store the other day
And now we have some more of those wood signs from Dollar Tree, by the way, everything obviously is from Dollar Tree
This is a Dollar Tree stash swap that we're doing
So those were some fun cutouts and then there's a really thick wood cutout
It looks like it has 10 layers, but so I'm curious what I'll do with that
So there's a bunch of ribbon in here and the first is is this pink chevron gold pattern?
And here's some green plaid that I thought would be so cute for something Easter
And then this is a sequin
Ribbon, not sequin, but it's like gemstones or something. And then we have the burlap
burlap black chevron pattern
And then we have the Dollar Tree infamous farmhouse ribbon that I'm now obsessed with
And it has such cute patterns and then this mermaid off-duty
box or something and then we have this the
The the patterned hearts and then the it's a mermaid ribbon
And then we have this really kind of burlap II looking farmhouse ribbon and then we have the wooden dowels
I'm trying to keep up with everything coming out of the box
and then those those squares or rectangles
Then we have the gold chevron
and then this was I guess a cutting board of some sort and then we have the blue gold chevron and
then this is a
Silver metallic marker that Dollar Tree sells. It's for writing on glass. It seems like and then this was a green
Sequins. Yeah a sequin ribbon
Can't talk today. Sorry
And then we have a couple of those Dollar Tree crates
really excited to use those and
Then we have not one
not two
but three
shadow boxes and
My Dollar Tree does not sell any of these
so thank you so much Annie because these are wonderful and I will gladly put them all to use and
Then last we have those those wooden squares
And I'm really curious about those because my Dollar Tree does not sell those so like I said Annie
Thank you so much. And the last item that I didn't show you that was in here was paintbrushes
So that was a lot. So thank you so much Annie
It was it was a really great mix-up to have
So as I mentioned today today's video is extra special because the lovely crafters I've linked to in the description of my video below
Are doing the stash the stash swap playlist giveaway with me
So this is a giveaway video is my I want to say maybe my first or second give me giveaway video
Anyway, so to be entered to win a $50 Amazon gift card
All you have to do is leave a comment on each of our videos and it's just really that simple
So let's get back to the crafting
So I'm just painting the shadow box the back of it and I'm using my new miter shears that I'm obsessed with to cut through
These wooden pieces
I had to find something to cut through these wooden pieces and I saw Dollar Mom use these these miter shears
On one of her videos and I was like, oh my gosh, I need to have a pair
so I found them at Home Depot, but I also found them on Amazon so that you can pick up a pair too so I've
linked to that in the description below and
So here I'm taking my antique wax and I'm just using a wet wipe and
I'm just
trying to stain the wood pieces with the
Waverly antique wax and that's kind of like my go-to thing. Now. I've started staining things and
As you can tell in the back my cat the crafty kitty Marcus was super interested in watching this
You'll notice a bunch of my pets in the background. So keep an eye out for them because they're super cute
So, yeah using this wet wipe is a fun technique because using a wet wipe is what helps spread out the the stain and
You can there's a couple different ways. You can you can spread out the stain on your crafts. You can use a paintbrush you can
Use this wet wipe the wet wipe kind of helps evenly distribute things and use a paintbrush it kind of comes out a lot heavier
So now I'm using I believe this is Waverly. I think it's Waverly paint. So this is the Waverly
mineral color chalk paint I believe that I'm using for this and
I'm just kind of I'm trying to give this a real I don't know
Not kind of like washed out but just kind of really kind of like beat-up rustic looking
Back of it to kind of look like so I did the I did the white first and then I did this on top of
It and I didn't cover it completely because I want it to look like faded
So that is what I did here and of course I did not show you it so you will see that shortly
So what I'm doing now then is I'm going to create a little house. I'm going to make this into a little house
And so I'm just gluing the the wood cutouts that I just cut with my miter shears
onto each
side of this
Shadow box for the very top and I'm so all you got all you have to do is just hot glue it
So then I just wrap some twine around the very top of it and
I took so what I use from the stash now was
The two two of the ribbons that she sent me so now I've used the shadow box I've used the the wooden
Cutouts and then I've used a couple
Different kinds of ribbon from the stash. And so I just kind of made a makeshift bow
Because now I'm getting a little bit braver with bows
You guys know that I kind of tend to avoid doing them because I'm not the greatest
So I just hot glued that I guess
Ribbon bow ribbon pile of pile of ribbons onto the
Onto the the twine. So now I'm taking a couple of those
Now I'm taking one of those rub-on transfers and I'm using the home one and those new Dollar Tree
Rub-on transfers are great. And the one I took it from was there's a bunch of words on all on the sheet
So you have to just kind of cut around it and pick out the best one you like
And so I just picked out home for this one
So I'm just taking the edge of my foam brush and now I'm just using that to scrape on the rub-on transfer so that it
sticks and
That's how it turns out when it's all done
So next we have those Dollar Tree
Palettes that I was super excited. I keep calling them crates
Sorry, they're Dollar Tree palettes and I was super excited to use these because they're like, you know, they look like the mini palette boards
So I was super excited to use these because I've been thinking for a while that I wanted to make these into coasters
And so I was really excited to get a couple of these because I realized I sent my palettes to someone else in the playlist
I believe so now I got them back. So I just turned them into coasters
so I'm taking a couple more of those rub-on transfers and
Since I only have two I do want to make a set of four
So I'm gonna have to go to Dollar Tree and pick up a couple more of those
But these are going to say family and friends
So you can I'm sure you can spray paint these if you like and if you do choose to paint them
just definitely be patient because there's a lot of different parts of these that are hard to
To paint and you'll notice that you kind of will you know?
We'll miss them and you need to go back and check and make sure that you painted everything
So definitely look out for that if you choose to go that route
and I mean
I'm sure I'm sure if you spray paint it you're gonna miss some spots to people but
Definitely just be patient. So since I want these to be drink coasters, I am just using a layer of
The matte the matte Mod Podge for this and
I definitely recommend doing at least a couple coats of this because I mean if you want, you know drinks on here and and
You know there they might have some condensation and you know, you don't want it to mess up the pretty rub-on transfers
so definitely do at least a couple coats of that and
This is a really simple DIY. There's not really much else needed. So this is what they look like when they're done and
Then this is how I plan to use them
So, yeah, I'm a little bit obsessed with these and I'm so excited for summer now
So I just wanted to show you my silicone crafty mat really quickly
and I'm just taking a wet wipe and I'm wiping off all of the chalk paint that I just I just had on there from
from the last craft and
So definitely chalk paint may not come off with my fingers
But it comes off of this crafty mat and I am so happy about that
So I'm just wiping that down so I can show you how easy it is to use this this crafting mat
And I highly recommend it. Oh my gosh
I've heard a lot of good things from other people
I know that have this mat and now I swear I swear by it because I'm done with crafting paper
So on to bigger better things and here we go with the Dollar Tree wood squares
so this I'm about to make a planter box and
so I'm using the I'm going to be using the Dollar Tree cutouts from the stash and I'm going to be using these
these squares from the stash as well and
Now I'm just hot gluing them together
so you'll notice I had a lot of I have a lot of tools in the background here and
That yellow finger sander behind the hot glue gun
I did use that for something and I wanted to show you guys that and
Apparently, I did not leave in the footage. So I'm sorry about that. But that finger sander has been
really amazing and I discovered that off of another crafters video and
Now that's basically what I use instead of just like a sheet of sandpaper. So I
highly recommend that finger sander because
That's what I use to sand down all of my signs that I make and then I also used it to sand down the shadow
box in the first craft
So now I'm just taking one of those tumbling tower blocks and
I'm going to use this as a way to kind of keep it sturdy. So I'm just placing them between them like that
And I just I felt like the box needed to be a little bit sturdier because I wasn't sure how this hot glue was gonna hold
so you'll see me doing this but I'm going to just kind of do that for all sides and
I'm also gonna do that on the bottom of the box and my idea really with kind of putting those on the bottom of the
box as well as just keeping the sides together was that maybe I was thinking that maybe they would
hold the foam in for the for the florals. I'm about to put in this and
So I was like, okay. These are gonna stick out a little bit. They're gonna hold the the floral foam in place
But the foam I had was actually just a tiny bit smaller than
anticipated with the
With the wood blocks keeping them together. So, um, I mean it so it definitely kept them from moving around as much
You know, not it not as much but it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. So I
Had to find a different way to keep the floral foam from moving and you'll see what I do in a little bit
So now I'm just staining this box with the wet wipe just like I did before with the other crafts with my
With my little shadow box craft. So I'm just speeding this up because
Obviously this needs a lot of stain
So just be warned the antique wax will get all up in your fingernails
Like it's so hard to get off of your hands like not so much your fingers
but it's hard to get it out of your nails if you have long fingernails like I do naturally so be warned and
Right on schedule, here's the crafty kitty
Anytime I have like plants or something. That's definitely a trigger for him. He just comes running
I don't know why he's just oh my gosh
I don't know if he just like is sniffing the box or if he if he licked that box at one point
I'm not quite sure but that's another thing he likes to do. I don't know with the with the wood pieces for my crafts
He's just obsessed with them
So anyway, I'm about to use the the Walmart florals and these are the Walmart
27-cent florals and I definitely recommend going to look for these at Walmart right now
I just found them recently so they should still be there, but I am just now very
gracefully
Cutting the florals off of the stem that holds them all together and I
Was I was having a laugh when when I was watching this earlier during the editing process and I was like, wow I have a
really struggling here
So my cats now just
Watching me do this. This is my cat Marcus, but we call him the crafty kitty
Because he has just kind of made a name for himself with now starring and basically all of my videos
So now I'm just cutting some of that Dollar Tree Spanish moss and oh my gosh when you cut that stuff
Be careful because it goes everywhere use like you just saw like it went in my hair and everything
So now I'm using the Spanish moss and I'm using that to keep the floral foam in
For moving instead of using those tumbling tower blocks like I had thought
I'm just putting the Spanish moss around all sides of the floral foam and that is keeping it
Exactly where I want it in the very middle of the box
So now I'm just trying to arrange it in a way that looks pretty
so that is
The Walmart lavender and then the other greenery that's with it
I believe that's the Walmart eucalyptus possibly I
Could be wrong, but it's but I believe those are the those might have been the ones that are that are both 90 97 cents
I know the lavender is for sure, but
There's so they only have like a couple others. It seemed like at one at my Walmart that were
That were 97 cents because a couple others were ranging in price from a dollar to two dollars
So typically I don't like to spend a ton of money on florals. So that really worked for me and
There we have it. It's all arranged and now I'm using my handy-dandy
Ladybug vacuum for all of the crumbs that I get on almost every craft and this has been a huge help and a lot
of other crafters I know use this too because I mean you need something because otherwise you're just
You know, so wipe it off
With your hands and it's just so annoying and it gets everywhere. So that's been super helpful
So I've linked that down for you below too
So I'm just taking some Waverly
Gray, it's like yeah, it's the mineral color chalk paint. And
As you guys know, I love using chalk paint for my crafts because it dries quickly. So for the sake of making videos
That's super helpful
So I just covered that heart completely and that was one of the heart cutouts from the from the stash that Annie sent me and
Now I'm just wrapping some twine around the box
I was trying to figure out what to do with this
I was like, I really want the heart on here, but I'm like, how could I make this also more rustic or stand out in some way?
so now I'm just taking my
Waverly white chalk paint on the sponge brush and
Sponge brush and I'm just kind of like lightly swiping it just because I want to give it a little bit of a
weathered look
So now I'm just gonna hot glue that to the very front of the box and there we have it. It's all done and
Here's the final product. I
Thought this was super cute for spring. So thank you guys so much for watching
Please check out the other crafters on this playlist
