Shinjuku is one of the 23 city wards of Tokyo,
an area with many things to offer from entertainment to business.
Shinjuku is also the home to the world's busiest railway station,
so if it's your first time here it may be quite overwhelming,
however it's actually quite simple to navigate yourself around
if you understand the station's layout.
Shinjuku has a total of 8 ticket gates.
The first step to make sure that you don't get lost
is to check the exit you need before leaving the station.
There are easy-to-read maps all along the platform
so follow the signs to your exit.
Just be careful if you go to the wrong exit,
it may take up to 20 minutes to get back around again.
Now let's check out what's around the station.
West of the station is Shinjuku's skyscraper district,
home to many of Tokyo's tallest buildings
They also have observation decks open to the public for free.
Amongst all the tall buildings and neon lights
there is a small narrow street full of Japanese-styled bars and restaurants.
Walking through this is like going back in time
and you can get some really great authentic Japanese food as well.
North-east of the station lies Kabukicho,
Japan's largest and wildest red-light district.
This is a very interesting area to stroll around
and you will definitely find many unique things here.
However, even though Japan seems very safe
it's always good to keep your guard up,
especially in the red-light district.
Right next to Kabukicho you have another very interesting street called Golden Gai
filled with hidden bars and restaurants
so it's great for a night out.
The east exit is also where the main retail area is
so you will find just rows and rows of shops down the street
from department stores to high-end brand shops.
Just be aware most things in Shinjuku don't open until around 10 to 11.
And if you get tired of the big city,
Shinjuku also offers beautiful nature at the Shinjuku Gyoen National Park.
Entry is 200 yen and the park opens until 4 30 pm.
