DIY Infinity Ring_ Day 4 of the 10-Day Wire Ring Making Challenge
Hey there, Heather Boyd Wire here and welcome to my 10-day wire ring making challenge. Now be sure
to join the Facebook event page where you can share pictures of your wire rings as you make
them. And at the end of the 10-day challenge, I'm going to be drawing one winner to win my
wire art course and also a custom-made item from our Etsy shop. And if the contest is over,
no fears, you can still share pictures of your work in the event page on Facebook or join the
Wire Art and Jewelry Makers Club. Today we're making a super simple infinity sign ring. So
what you're going to need for the infinity ring is 18 gauge wire, your tools, and your ring cone.
So for the sample, I used two tones of wire. I used the copper color and the silver color
of the 18 gauge wire. This one I'm just going to do all silver color. And so you're going to start
by forming your infinity sign. You can use your larger round pliers for that and you're just going
to use them and just form it whatever size you want. So start by doing one loop here and then
just decide what size you want and then do the other loop here. I guess you could even make a
little jig or something if you wanted to, but if you're only making one or two, it's not really
worth it. And so, but the key here is you want to get it somewhat symmetrical. So just wiggle it
around. So it looks like if you just keep wiggling it, you want it to look like even on both sides.
And if you have to push it in a little bit, you can do that. Now a key to know how this should
look is you want this to look like one continuous line here and here, even though we're going to
clip them. And so now you want some really good flush cutters. Unfortunately, my cutters aren't
the best. I'll just do what I can with them right now. But the idea is you want it to be a nice,
flat cut right here. Cut that one there and then flip it. And same thing here. We're going to cut
that one nice and flush here, where you can imagine to be halfway through that wire. And then
we want to take this one and bring it to the back. And so it's going to look like, especially if
these are cut really flat, it's going to look like one continuous line. Now, what I would recommend
is if you do have a dab of some kind of glue, maybe you could just stick it on the back. But
because it's 18 gauge wire, it should be fine. It's pretty stiff. But if you cut it nice and
flat, it shouldn't be scratchy at all. So there's your infinity sign. And then what you want to do
is bring it to the rest of it, to the ring cone, bring it around here and then decide
what size you want. So imagine that's going to be there. And we're going to then bend this edge up
and then where the other side of the infinity sign is going to be, we're going to bend that one up.
So we have looks like that. So these two are bent up and now these are way too long.
So what we can do is cut them to about maybe three eighths of an inch. So we have something
to grab onto maybe half an inch and we're going to stick the infinity sign on there with the
cut edge underneath. So we're going to bring it here and this one here. Try to try to bring them
down at the same at the same time so you don't have to distort this too much. So we've got
that on there and then just put it back on the ring cone and you're going to grab it with your
flat or your round pliers and pull it back. Just really pull it back and this one too. Just pull it
here. So now I'll remove it so you can see. The ends are pulled back there and then you want to
just continue bringing them back a little bit more. Bring that one back so it's tighter and
bring that one back so they're more or less even and then you clip the edges. Same thing with your
with your flush cutters there to make sure you can get right in there and this one too.
I really need to invest in better cutters but I'll make do with what I have for now.
So we're going to go in here and in there so that's nice and flat down. No pokey ends and
always finishing touch you just put it back on the ring cone and there you have your infinity ring.
