I am very excited for August to be happening because I'm going to be out of the country
for a majority of the month.
I'm heading to Portugal for three weeks, and yes, I am taking you all along with me for
the fun.
So if you don't want to miss out on any of that content, make sure you've hit subscribe
and the notification bell.
And you'll notice that this month's spreads are very much inspired by my destination.
So get ready.
A big thank you to Squarespace for sponsoring today's video.
The all-in-one platform I use to run my site, caitlindasilva.com.
More on them in a bit.
I do my classic spreads in this one, as well as some more travel-fied ones because I'm
bringing my journal with me.
However, they are definitely adaptable to summer goodness, general summer goodness,
whether you're traveling or not, and I'll walk you through some of those changes I'd
recommend making with the voiceover.
I hope you guys enjoy, and let's get into it.
Since I will be spending a decent chunk of my August in Portugal, I figured it'd be fitting
to ensure that my bullet journal reflects that.
So you'll notice throughout this video me writing a decent amount of the headings in
Portuguese.
I've used Portuguese in my planner before during months when I want to practice the
language a bit more, but I think this is such a fun way to highlight a country you're visiting
or want to visit in your planner.
I then went in with my Sharpie Estrel pen to outline the calendar and habit trackers.
I'm still very much so loving my white casing Estrel pen.
It'll be linked below along with links to everything you see me use in today's video.
The calendar is a smaller grid style calendar with space at the bottom for me to highlight
any major dates.
I don't really anticipate using my bullet journal as heavily for planning in August
because there's going to be a lot of casual days this month, but I'll probably highlight
any travel days here and there.
The habit I'm most looking forward to working on in August is, believe it or not, exercising.
The last time I was in Portugal, I wasn't as deep into my movement journey as I have
been this past year, so I think doing workouts in a new scenery will be fun.
I also plan to do a lot of walking around my grandparents' town where there are beautiful
views everywhere to feast my eyes on, so it should be a much different experience than
walking around the streets of Toronto.
Although I love walking around the streets of Toronto.
On the bottom right page, I pasted in an image I found off of Pinterest of a building in
Portugal.
Throughout this video, I pasted in quite a few Portugal photos from Pinterest, so I'll
try linking them down below in case you want to pin them or use them in your own spreads.
In this particular photo, I adore the tiling that's happening on the building.
I think one of my favorite parts about Portuguese buildings, whether it's their exterior or
interior, is their use of tile and color.
This section next to the photo is the future home of a list of destinations I want to visit
while I'm away.
It's not a super large area because, as I've mentioned, this is intended to be more
of a laid-back visit, so I won't be doing as many super touristy things like my last
time there in 2018.
Not to interrupt the planning goodness, but we need to have a quick little chat about
Squarespace, the all-in-one platform that has made starting, designing, and updating
a blog of my own so easy that I've been able to call myself a blogger for over two
years!
Starting a blog of your own can be a great starting point for your online journey.
Squarespace helps make starting as pain-free as possible by offering a plethora of stunning

it took me minutes to create a new page that got me excited to fill in.

For this next spread, I'm starting off by pasting in some mini photos.
My original idea was going to make them look like mini Polaroids, but then I instead decided
to add a playful drop shadow to them both.
The reason I was inclined to go with a Polaroid doodle look was because these two pages are
going to be a space for me to record some memories throughout the month.
Just like how you'd look at photos you took on a trip, I want this area to be a great
visual reminder whenever I look back on it.
So each day during the month of August, I'm going to challenge myself to write down a
highlight from the day so that it doesn't get lost in my brain.
Whether you're going on a trip or not, this format for a spread is so fun and keeps you
looking for those bright moments as you're navigating your day.
The layout itself is pretty simple for this because you essentially just need to write
down the numbers 1-31 vertically down the page so each day has a designated line for
record keeping.
I still had some space left on the bottom right page so instead of pasting in more photos,
I decided to keep the self-reflection vibes going on this page by creating a rectangle
This will most likely be something I fill in towards the end of the month and again
is just another way to slow down time a bit.
I feel like when we're moving from one day to the next without a pause, the days seem
to blend together so those small moments of thinking back on my day, my week, or my month
can be really helpful in grounding me.
This next spread is probably the most travel-focused spread in this plan with me and although mine
is catered towards my flight details, this same concept would be cute for recording details
on Airbnb rentals or any day trips you might be doing this month.
On the top left page, I am making a designated spot to record the basic details of my flights
between Toronto and Portugal, there's a spot for me to record the time of each flight,
and the flight number.
I find this will be more of a just-for-the-memories kind of thing because a lot more details will
be on my phone, if I'm being honest with you.
Below that, I pasted in another photo, this one I believe is from Lisbon, the clouds in
the photo really were inspiring me and since I also associate clouds with planes, it only
felt right to sprinkle in some cloud doodles throughout these two pages.
On the bottom left page is a spot for me to just add some quick reminders to look at before
heading to the airport.
On the right page, as you can already see, I penned in a rectangle for me to use as a
things to do list in Portugal, but this can obviously be used as a summer themed activities
list.
I used those same cloud doodles from the left page to fill in the white space on the header
and I purposely made sure one of those clouds started on the top of the left page to keep
the two pages feeling really connected together.
I also brought back some of that same blush pink from the left page to the title of the
things to do page, which also helps connect the two together.
I just think the pop of pink works really well here.
To ensure I had plenty of room to brainstorm and record ideas, the rectangle on the right
got divided into two columns.
Lots of space for to-do items.
There is something so comforting about creating a weekly layout.
Each one I do always comes out different, sometimes in big ways and other times in small
details, but each is grounded in the fact that there are always seven slots for seven
days of planning.
For this weekly spread, I wanted to take a step away from the ruler and really lean into
hand-drawn lines.
The photo of the ocean on the top right page was a major inspiration for this.
Nature is the most wonderful example of perfect imperfections, so it felt wrong to use a ruler
for the headings or dividers that separate each day of the week.
This spread just created a little bit of imperfection messiness.
Each day of the week was given a slightly wonky rectangle for me to record the title
and each rectangle eventually got a drop shadow behind it to make it pop out.
For as long as I've been bullet journaling, you'd think I'd have gotten sick of drop
shadows by now, but I rarely ever regret adding one to a spread.
It's a finishing detail that works nearly every time.
Another thing I love to do when adding photos to my spread is to use my pen to add some
doodles on top of the images.
Whether it be a completely new doodle like the sun on the first page or wavy lines following
the structure of the image, those doodle add-ins take a generic photo and give it some of my
own style and personality.
Each day of the week was written in Portuguese starting with Monday, aka Segunda-Feira, and
then going through the rest of the days of the week.
The real cherry on top moment for this layout was adding the blush pink to the drop shadow.
This color has probably been one of my most used colors in my bullet journal.
It's just the perfect shade of pink.
I clearly can't get enough of it.
Favorite spread by far this month was definitely the travel details, things to do spread.
It's just visually so pleasing.
I'm so proud of myself when it just clicks together like that, and that one just did
it for me.
But as always, I'm curious to know which was your favorite.
Let me know in the comment section down below, as well as if or if you have already been
anywhere this summer, any travel destinations, tell that to me in the comments as well.
I'm curious to know where you guys are heading to or have been this summer.

The packing panic is just slightly starting to settle in.
I've got a lot to do before I get on that plane.
Should probably stop procrastinating on ending this video and get on with some of that to-do
list.
Just a thought, perhaps something to consider.
