Today it's finally the day that we're going to be covering this wall.
Welcome to another episode of the cabin build series, where we are showing you
how two people without construction experience self-built their first house for under 5000 USD.
In this week's episode we complete the front door, we also custom build the loft window,
and finally get to clad the cabin's rear facade with black metal.
We can now proudly say that the cabin's exterior is 100% finished.
Also this week we come with bonus footage of Aspen practicing his new favorite summer sport.
What will it be? Stick until the end and let us know what you think it is in the comments below.
I'm Eugenia and this is Pepe, Aspen and Lolita, and we are now building our new home.
We have been traveling around Europe for the past year in our self-converted campervan,
but looking to live a simpler life, grow our own food and build our house, let us here.
Thank you for watching, liking and subscribing.
Another crazy weather day. Today is sunny, but we have so much wind. I'm trying to cut this piece,
but it's all the time flying away. It's just the last one for the door. Hopefully I can cut this
and then start working on the inside. Yesterday we were able to finish the interior part of
this door and of the top triangle, both sides, and today we're just missing this one.
As you can see at the moment we still see the structure here in the inside,
and on the other side it's already covered from the interior and exterior.
Now we need to put this door handle that's gonna come over here. Last time I did this
was kind of complicated, so I'm not too sure how to proceed this time because
I don't know if you remember, but last time I did it I missed the screw and made a hole in the
plastic. So I'm a little bit scared of doing this one.
We just finished the door, all the screws are in,
the handle is looking quite well, and now it's gonna take a break.
Are you liking this cabin and have plans of building something similar?
Or are curious to see the layout and dimensions? Remember we have the architectural layout kit
available in our website that includes fully dimensioned architectural floor plans,
elevations and sections, along with a 3d model file. Having the 3d model helps a lot to see
all the cabin's details, to take more specific dimensions, and it is also modifiable so you can
make changes to the design should you want to. Everything you need to replicate this design
for only 49.99 euros, around 60 us dollars, link in the description box.
New day, yesterday we were able to finish cladding the interior of the door, it's looking
quite well as you can see, and now we're preparing to install a piece of metal with plastic on the
inside so you don't see the metal, to close the gap in between both leaves, so when this door closes
it closes this gap, it makes it wind and waterproof. And I'm gonna use this metal
strip that I have, that I cut from an angle angle earlier, probably a couple of weeks ago,
now I'm gonna prep it, cut it to length, and install it. I already cut the metal strip,
and now I'm gonna be cutting a strip of plastic to go on top of the metal,
it's probably gonna be like one centimeter wider to cover the metal on both sides. We wanted to
take a moment while we install this last door piece to thank you all for your support during
the past few months, we are now more than 15 000 subscribers, it is just crazy, this amazing and
vibrant community is growing so fast, thank you so much for subscribing, for each nice comment,
each like, and for all your paypal donations and merch orders, you guys rock, each one of you,
thank you, we wouldn't have made it this far without you on the other side, now back to the
build. Who else do you know that walk? There dog, and there cat, come on, the cat is a bit tired now,
where did you go man? What have you done? Lolita, you wanna go back? We're finally getting ready
to make the back window, once we finish with the window we will cover the interior part of
the facade with all plastic, so bed to ceiling window, that is going to be practicable in the
middle, the one that we're doing now, and after that the only thing that we will be missing to
finish the exterior will be covering this back side with the metal, which we have left until
the end because it's been raining a lot, so we have an option to be outside here working. I'm
going to start doing it. I'm going to start by making a window seal, it's going to be an angle
that will bend the sides, both sides, so it's all waterproof, so if any rain goes on top of here
it will go down and out, and on top of that will be the window, because this window,
the hinges are going to be on the bottom, it's going to open like this, out.
These are the four pieces that will be making the window,
two tracks and two studs, not quite sure if I'm going to put one in the middle or not,
I rather not, so I'm going to try just with these two and see if once this screw is structural
enough and if it is I will leave it like that, if not I will add a third stud in the middle.
Now I'm going to measure both diagonals to make sure the window is square,
this is two millimeters smaller, to make this diagonal a little longer I will need to
move this over here and this over there. I'm going to go ahead and clamp it.
I'm putting these screws in a triangle shape, that way the stud cannot move and the whole
window keeps a square shape. I think with that we might be able not to put the stud in the middle,
but I will see once it's all screwed. The seal pan is already installed, I put some
MS glue at the bottom of it, so to make sure that no water goes underneath, and now I'm just
going to do the hinges on the window frame, and once that is done I will go ahead and install
the window. Hello guys, these screws for some reason I think because there is two layers of
steel separated a little bit, the head of both of them broke, so now we're stuck with two headless
screws.
A lot of progress today, we were able to finish
that window, everything is sealed and perfectly closed, it stays there because it has rubber
seals all over the perimeter, when you push the window in the rubber seals contract a little bit
and seal the window, and that's why it's there, but we need to put a lock in the inside. I didn't
have the chance to capture all all this work on camera, rain is coming tonight and we couldn't
allow to have that window open for tonight. We made a gutter on top made of a track, when the
water hits the facade it goes down to the gutter and then to the sides of the window, it doesn't go
on top of the window. Also I finally sealed all these connections because most likely the next
day that we have no rain then we will cover this facade with the metal like this one. It has not
been an easy day, this window was a tricky one, but quite happy with how it's looking. Today it's
finally the day that we're gonna be covering this wall with the black metal, finally today
we're gonna have the whole house done because that's the only part missing on the exterior I mean,
it's kind of a tricky one because we have a lot of cuts to do, we have these two pipes going out,
we have this stack, we also have the gas pipe, the two water pipes and an outlet. It's gonna be fun
to make all these cuts. Anyways we're gonna start by putting here another L angle, in this case black,
that will go underneath the window and over the facade, that way when the water goes
it goes like this and doesn't go inside the window because we will be of course sealing
this connection. I'm trying to take this angle out because that's a provisional one that we put
before putting the window and I'm having a hard time because it's really stuck in there.
I took notes of the first panel and I know I need to cut it 2 meters 13 tall, we're gonna keep it in
the hole width and then the two holes, these two holes are 102 from the floor, 31 from the right
and 30 in between. The diameter of the hole has to be two and a half, so I'm gonna go ahead and cut it
and make the holes.
Now I'm gonna be touching finally the gas pipe to the gas regulator, that goes directly to the
gas tank. Now with everything looking like it's tight enough, I'm gonna open it and I'm gonna
spray this product, that is to see if you have any gas leak, so you apply it to it and if you see
bubbles forming that will mean that the gas is going out and there is no bubble so
that's perfect. Ready to enjoy the oven. This is the last piece that we need to put and now I'm
just gonna take some dimensions and cut it, cut a hole for this outlet as well, after that we will
be putting the trim, we're gonna put this upper trim and then the corners and the upper ones.
With the dimensions I go there, cut the piece to size, make the hole and bring it here.
We were able to finish the back of the house yesterday, this cladding is all installed and
prepared. Basically now I just need to put the angle here, also in these two corners,
this corner on the other one as well and on the roof. I'm very happy with how it's looking,
I think it's looking fantastic.
Now we need to cover the fan hole, we bought this piece for the bathroom fan,
now we just need to screw it there and then we will seal it from the top.
