These are the four best upgrades you won't spend all your money on but that will really make a difference
From my point of view you don't need to be a genius to realize that there are four components that could make a crucial difference in the sensations your bike delivers while riding a trail
So let's start with whatever it is in no particular order
The fists believe it or not your hands grip the handlebars by tightening the fists
And here I've seen everything
My brother Cristian has some plastic-like gloves in the Maipo drawer that are really stiff
And many more times I have had to see friends whose fists are worn down to the plastic
Don't criticize me I've also ended up with plastic on my wrist but I recommend you don't let that happen
As soon as you change the cuffs you tell yourself why didn't I do this earlier
The difference between a new glove and a bad or worn one is tremendous
And it can even give you that motivational boost that makes you want to go cycling even more
I've tried many grips in my life and I must say I definitely recommend those with locks the ones that clamp onto the handlebars
There are very cheap ones that don't grip the handle well and I would stay away from those
My favorite fists without a doubt can't be bought in stores
They come straight from the factory with Snap
I talked about them a while ago and I still prefer them to be far away because they are the only grips that let me take the full width of the handlebar
The pedals I don't have much experience with clipless pedals but I can give you some tips for choosing good platform pedals
A good pedal can make your rides enjoyable and free of any worries in the world
A bad pedal can bring chaos misery and despair
If you're going to be bouncing on the hill the pedal is essential
I recommend staying away from resin pedals A good aluminum pedal
with a solid platform deadly pins and a good design makes a good pedal
Aluminum is simply for durability Whether you like it or not you'll be putting these things through a lot
The size of the platform depends in some way on the size of your foot
I wear size 44-45mm and I've always tried to buy the largest pedal I can find
If the pins are sticking out enough to split your ankle in two you're on the right track
I know it will hurt eventually but the extra grip and control should reduce the number of bruises
The thinner the pedal the more stable it will feel under your foot
Pedaling a bicycle the foot normally applies pressure downward and forward on the pedal
A very wide pedal that seems like a stilt will tend to rotate
The thin one will remain very stable
Unfortunately a pedal with these features will immediately increase the price but believe me it's worth it
Personally I've been riding the bike my brother Lucho gave me for almost two years and I have to say I really love it
Although they have a bit of play the resistance and grip are hard to overcome
Saddle I don't have much to say about the saddle but basically you want a saddle that besides being comfortable
Have a space in the middle so it doesn't press against your soft parts
There are many studies suggesting that no cyclist will be able to reproduce in 2020 but in practice I simply see them reproducing and reproducing
And what makes the most sense to me in the end is to comfortably rely on our buttocks and not on our soft parts
In short don't pedal with a seat like the one on the Metropolis
Tires I don't know if
you noticed but went through the three points where our body is in contact with the bicycle
Equally important from my point of view is how the bicycle contacts the terrain
You don't have to be Aaron Wynn to tell the difference between a good tire and a bad one
The two main qualities I see in a tire are the wall thickness and the tread compound
The thickness of the walls gives the tire stability and prevents it from bending in sharp turns
This is a graphical representation of what I mean when I say the tire bends
There isn't a single tire in my list that weighs less than a kilo and has that level of stability
If you're not riding very hard you can get by with an 800 gram tire but I recommend you check the compound
You may not need stability but you're going to need grip trust me
The instant trust between you and a tire with good grip is immediate
Call it Slow Reset Super Tacky Visco Gum Mitty-Mitty
In my experience the softer the tire the better it performs
under the conditions here in Chile Classic it's loose and dry
I have some tires at FUS that aren't very hard on the sidewall and have a fairly hard compound
So they don't meet either of the two requirements
La Snap has great tire compound but thin walls
The tires that the Metropolis brings would be like recreational XC bicycle tires
They are for killing but that bicycle usually rides on smooth tracks with rich curves
So I feel it's not worth adding weight to tires that have a lot of grip
Surely these changes won't make your bike look much better You
won't even be able to brag about your new carbon components
But I guarantee you that with each one of them you will notice a difference
These are the small details that give you confidence and the thrill
