FOR COLLABORATIONS AND BUSINESS INQUIRES: email us at [email protected]
Today we are bringing you another makeover and this time we are back at
our house and we are back in our basement and I
say that because this is technically the third time that we have
made this room over. So originally we had it as a kitchenette
we've remodeled that twice and then we also had it as a temporary gym
but I've always wanted to have a concession area
slash movie room so we are officially making that happen.
My idea for this space was to have the look of old exposed brick
which would be like something you'd find if you ripped back a wall. So
we used the brick paneling from Home Depot and there is a difference between
the Home Depot and the Lowe's version. The Lowe's is a really deep dark red and
Home Depot is lighter so I wanted this look and then we went in
with grout in the color linen and with a grout bag we went in between
each brick and then I went over it with a terry
cloth to kind of smush it in and give it a more realistic look.
So anyone that's been to our house since this has been done
they've all asked is this real brick even after filling it?
It really looks and it feels real with the grout.
We picked up both these cabinets at Home Depot for storage and for support for
the countertops that we're doing and I'm painting them black with a
pint of the pre-mixed black paint by Rust-Oleum. It's only around nine or
ten dollars. Well I thought this was recording but all
Thomas has done is put some support pieces of wood where we're
going to have some countertops. So we have one that's going to go in
between these two cabinets right here and then one that
will go across the top of that cabinet. So sorry about that but we will show the
install of the cabinets. The stain color we're using is Provincial
by Minwax and this is the same color as our
mantle and our beam downstairs so we just wanted all of that to match.
So I had the idea to have a cinema marquee sign
above the popcorn machine so I'm having Thomas build me a box that the sign will
be on and then I'm going to paint it black
and hang some lights under it. That's why I had him actually drop the countertop
that sits in between the cabinets so that the popcorn machine
will fit underneath the sign so you'll see how that all comes together
in just a minute. Now he's just installing the box that the
cinema sign will go on and then I wanted to explain my idea
with the lights here. I bought the smallest strand of outdoor
lighting I could find and it's 10 feet long
with 10 bulbs so we used some black Gorilla Tape inside of the box to hang
them and then I also taped up any of the
excess wire so that you couldn't see it but this technique
worked perfectly. I was thinking I might need some command hooks but we found the
Gorilla Tape was really all that we needed.
I actually wanted to ask you guys what do you think I should put here on the
sign that says cinema always showing there's
like a blank spot and I have a Cricut machine. I could put
some kind of vinyl up there or do you think I should put something
that I could swap out? I'd love to hear what some of your ideas
are in the comments below. In between the cabinets I wanted some
angled candy shelves just like they have at the theater
so he cut them at different sizes so you could see each shelf
the same amount but I will have the dimensions of how he cut these shelves
in the description box below. I'm so bummed that I didn't get a good shot of
this because I didn't realize how out of focus it was the entire time
that I was applying these lights to the shelves so I used some double-sided tape
every like six inches I put a little piece so it would stick to the edge
of the shelf and it would also stick to the lights and it is
so secure like you couldn't pull them off if you wanted them to.
I feel like this strand of lights was the perfect touch for this little theater
area and I found these lights actually just at Walmart. I will have them linked
in the description below. All of the decor including the cinema
sign was actually from Hobby Lobby and I made sure to go when all of the
wall decor was 50% off. For the cost breakdown of this movie room
makeover the brick wall was $37 per panel and we needed four of
those. The grout was $27. The cabinets were $76
a piece. We spent $75 on all the pieces of wood for the countertop
and then another $24 for the wood over on the bar section
and $30 for the candy shelf so in total that was only $456
for the actual makeover but if you want to include the popcorn machine the mini
fridge and all of the decorations that I used
I only spent $925 so we're still under that $1,000 budget. Thank you guys
again so much for watching. If you have not yet hit that red subscribe button
make sure you do that and we will see you guys in the next
video.
