Hey today I'm going to show you how to spot or coat the screws. I'm going to show you how to
do it by hand and in a separate video I'm going to show you how to do it even faster
with an automatic tool. So be looking for that video but we'll get on to that right after this.
Okay this is a really simple video. Spotting the screws is one of the most boring jobs
on a job and doing it by hand is really boring because it's slow but I'm going to show you how
to do it fast. First I'm going to show you the simplest way because a lot of you are brand new
to this if you're just doing a little something by yourself and you want to know how to do it well
don't do it the wrong way and I'm going to show you that. What we're using here is just plus three
lightweight all-purpose mud. This is pretty dainty and it doesn't normally need to be quite
this thin but this is thinned down for my tools so we're going to go ahead and use it and get the
water out of it. So let me show you what a lot of you do wrong. I see things like this you're trying
to like coat it heavy and then come back and sand it down wrong way especially on these.
You're going to do it like that that's what you want right there you put it on
wipe it all back off so put it on wipe it back off. Now if you want to know the fast way the
way that the pros do it by hand we load up our knife and we slide spot so you can see I lean my
knife over touch it to the wall and as I go up the wall I start leaning it over and then turn
around and wipe it off. So it's really quick I'm going to show you how quick it can go I'll back
the camera up a little bit and just do a little section here and show you how quick you can get
at it once you get practice with that method. So it might take you a while to get used to
spreading the mud like that but you can practice a little bit and you'll get it.
Now let me show you one other thing when you're going up the wall as you get to the top
you want to kind of just pull away like that there's just kind of this cutting action
otherwise you just kind of pull away and it might it might be kind of odd and messier so
go up here pull away come back and wipe. On the bottom section of the wall here it's basically
the same thing except you can go down and then up or up and down. You want to get a rhythm
and do the same thing over and over like you'll see right here. Okay let me do just a few right
across here there's not very many that I can get in camera but I'll show you how it goes.
So we just go in this one and that's it. Now you see that edge I left there I was
getting kind of close to my camera I was trying not to hit it. You don't want to leave those so
if you see that just come back and wipe it and when you wipe it you want to stand it up pretty
much. Normally when we come back over things we go like that to leave a build we call that floating
but with nails and screws you want to wipe it all off clean and that's because this will try
and droop a little bit and if you don't wipe it clean it'll droop more plus you just don't
need a build up on these screws otherwise you're going to have little baby humps everywhere
and these are supposed to be depressed so there's no need for it. Now if you want to see the really
fast way to do it like I say check out my other video I'm not sure if it'll be after this or
before it but I'll show you how we do it with tools taping tools and you can actually buy just
this one tool and a pump if you want to but it really does speed things up quite a bit. Hey I
hope that helped you out today and if you like this kind of content and want to up your skills
