Leo Borromeo and Timon Galashinsky ready to go head-to-head in this best-of-five sets of first
to three solves. Competitors will alternate starting solves and starting sets. Leo, with
the faster median in the previous round, chose to start second. And a few lockups for Timon
during that solution. The efficiency is great. Leo's found a fantastic F2L into the ZB, a nice
566, taking the first solve. Oh and another fantastic solve, but a lockup on the V perm for
Leo into a 626. And Timon's fluidity is amazing, but a lockup on the finish into a 596, barely
taking the solve. Oh and that was an efficient F2L. A few pauses in the last layer. A nice full step 543.
Let's see what Leo can make of this F2L. Timon resolved it in very few moves. And Leo's got a
fantastic F2L as well, a 476 with the ZBLL, taking the third solve.
That's another fantastic F2L, but some lockups in the late F2L into the last layer.
And a struggled finish for Leo, 706, leaving the door open for Timon to tie up this first set.
Both competitors have shown great planning and look ahead throughout their solves,
struggling a little bit with execution, but overall the solves have been fantastic.
Let's see what Timon can do here. Oh and it's another fluid F2L, a nice cancellation into the
PLL, a 484 tying up the set. Oh and it's another efficient F2L, but the locky execution into the
Leo's F2L is brilliant. The locky last layer and a 574 taking the first set, three to two.
That's another efficient F2L by Leo, 477.
These two competitors are bringing fantastic efficiency today. So few moves.
The sketchy ZBLL for Timon, but I don't think it was going to matter.
He was already behind pace at that point.
It's a fantastic 509 full step by Timon. Leo not quite in time.
Oh and Leo has lost his fluidity. A lot of pauses through that relatively inefficient solution.
Poor Leo, leaving the door open for Timon to take a lead in the second set.
And smoothly with a 551, nicely taking the solve.
Oh and a nice ZBLL finish for Timon with a 616. It wasn't the smoothest solve.
He finished it nicely. Oh and a huge pause for Leo
and he's not going to get it. So Timon taking the second set, three to one.
Oh and it's a brilliant solve by Timon. Fantastic efficiency. A new 499. He's loving it.
Leo's also found a fantastic F2L, but the lockups and the early stop for Leo.
He was on pace through the F2L and the last layer was not in time.
Oh but the early stop again for Leo.
Oh my goodness. Leo with two early stops in a row, two DNFs and just leaving the door,
leaving the entire house.
And a nice full step 525 by Timon, easily taking the solve versus the DNF.
Oh it's a beautiful F2L by Timon, a 462. That was an elegant solution. Nicely done.
Wow and Timon able to take this set three to zero. Oh and some quick turning by Leo.
Smooth finish into a 565. So Leo able to recover from that disastrous third set.
Oh and a lucky PLL skip for Timon. A very lucky PLL skip. Getting him a 485 to take the first solve.
He was not on pace to win that one. This is a bit more hesitant for Timon, a 610.
Still fantastically efficient but the fluidity wasn't there. It was a little bit hesitant
throughout. Let's see if Leo can step it up here and tie up the set. Well Leo's got a fantastic
solve. Oh but the lock up on the PLL into a 550. We are on the edge of our seats there for a moment.
Leo using almost no inspection on that and he's found a great F2L and a fluid transition into the
PLL of 546 for Leo. He's speeding up here putting some pressure on Timon. I have a hard time
believing. Yeah Timon's going to use a lot more inspection than Leo did. Let's see if it benefits
him. Oh he's got a fantastic F2L. A beautiful solve of 460. That extra inspection resulting
in an incredible F2L solution. What? Another amazing F2L. A bit of a lucky G perm but still a
548. Nutella's F2L planning has just been amazing since about the middle of this match.
Leo needs a 547 or better to stay in it. Oh and he's he's thrown it away. He's thrown it away
and Timon is gonna win the match. Yes. 3-1. Winning the final set 3-1. As Leo collapsed
in the crucial moments and Timon sets a new Monkey League record median of 546. Oh my god.
It's Monkey League record median. Wow. 546. Yeah this was kind of an insane match. There were so
many fours from both you guys and a lot of a lot of good results. How do you feel after this match
and what are your key takeaways? Yeah. I don't know. I had some good solves. Most of them are
like bad. I don't know what happened. I was doing really well like a couple of hours before the
match but like I just couldn't do it for most of the solves here. Yeah I mean I don't know.
A lot of things were like different in this match than most matches. So firstly like
after the competition I went to where I failed the world record twice. I mean I had the chance
to get it on last solve twice. Like I realized I wasn't allowing myself mentally to fail. It was
too much pressure. So after that comp I switched my mentality quite a lot and I was like okay we're
losing today. Obviously I didn't lose but I think that helped quite a lot. And also I was just like
insanely fast. I don't know what happened. 546 median is... I don't know. That's insane. I think
you had like a very low 5 average of 5 too. Like a 5.03 or something. Well I also had a 4.99 set
median in the first set. Good stats. Good stats. So after Leo beat you in the first set I saw that
during the break you were smiling. Like that's usually not the body language of a person who
just got beat on the last solve by like 0.2 seconds. Yeah. What was going on in your head
after that first set? Well like I said like since I was okay with losing I was just like really
enjoying that the match was so close between me and Leo. I mean that didn't last so long but
the first two sets were really fun. Gotcha. And yeah of course I have to ask about those
tough timer stops in the third set. Were you just trying to rush to beat Teemon or was there
something else at play that caused the timer stops to be a little rougher than usual? I don't know
what happened. I think sometimes... I think I was actually watching the solves which was
also funny because it was like the only two solves I watched. And sometimes when you lock
up too much you have like the reflex of stopping the timer because the cube is like supposed to
be solved but because you locked up you end up stopping the timer of the cube in your hands
and it's not solved. Okay yeah that makes sense. That makes sense. It sounds like you've also
experienced this before. So I mean you guys had a lot of solves that just went on and on and on
without any sort of pausing. So one natural question I have to ask is what's the furthest
you've ever seen into a 3x3 solve during inspection? All of F2L. The entire F2L? Yeah I think
like all of the top gamers will say all of F2L because all of F2L on easy scrambles is not
just impossible to predict. I mean that would be insane. Okay all right I mean if you think it's
insane then I'm inclined to believe it. I mean I still can't see past the first like pair or two
like a normal person. So Worlds is still some time away but assuming it happens
are you guys planning to attend and if so what's your kind of game plan for doing your best there?
I'm just gonna try solving fast. I'll try to have fun and solve fast as well. Okay nice.
Are there any people that you're really looking forward to meeting or hanging out with?
Leo. Oh well not most multi-league competitors I want to meet. Okay okay so like kind of like
each other. Yeah yeah I mean I think all of the people that have competed for all of the seasons
well okay most of them are fun to meet. Fair enough. Yeah it'd be cool to meet Roy Hong too
just someone that you don't typically hang out with. Yeah I'd like to see his turning in real
life. I'm sure it looks quite different than on camera. Yeah in camera it's like almost frightening
like it makes me worried. It like makes my heart rate go up maybe because I'm old but like it
definitely it makes me feel very anxious and intimidated. It's like if you're like playing
a sport and your opponent like flexes and it's like yeah oh my goodness. I want to see it in
more than like 60 or 30 fps to be honest. Yeah oh yeah. I don't think we've even seen it in 60.
Maybe I don't watch multi-league like on YouTube. I don't know. Yeah don't watch multi-league on
YouTube. Matty matches in 60 frames per second. Oh yeah I should watch that. Yes.
So completely unrelated question. So Leo's been doing some cooking on and off his Instagram. I
see him like chopping up vegetables and and stuff. Do you have any cooking advice for Timon?
Like what are your top tips for that? Nice. Oh no. See like I'm obviously like the best chef on like
planet earth so like this is why I'm giving so much advice right now to Timon. All right yeah
what's your top tip? Okay so what dish in particular? I don't know. Just anything. Just
make anything up. Make sure it's the right temperature. I think it was 165 Fahrenheit.
Yeah otherwise you'll get food poisoning. Yes yes yes. Don't put too much salt or like you
won't have a good time afterwards. Yeah I don't know. That's all. It's funny how difficult
feeding ourselves is. You know compared to compared to the world class selves that you
guys are doing that very few people of the seven billion people in the world can do.
Feeding ourselves is harder. But yeah good luck with the rest of the competition. If you guys
go to worlds be safe. Have fun. Hopefully you get to enjoy each other's company and if you do feed
yourself I hope it's tasty. And yeah thank you. Thank you for having me. Thanks for having me.
